Perhaps not as influential as The Beatles but to me one of the best bands ever and still capable of creating fabulous music. I bought Crocodiles 'on spec' never having heard a track before, it just looked like it would be good...
Tough call - Tim Buckley (the best, for me), Nick Drake, Joan Armatrading, Subway Sect, Banshees, Wire ‘79 (Crazy About Love), The Fall (Sept ‘80), Sudden Sway, The Smiths three in 1983, Wedding Present 1st session, PJ Harvey 1st, etc.
@Benard Fequer - yes, these were the titles John Peel gave to the songs when he broadcast this session. I listened to it at the time and still have a cassette recording of it. I saw the Bunnymen quite a few times in 1980 and 1981. They were great then!
I bloody love this. If asked to pick, then Turquoise days would be my fav Bunnymen track, so it's great to hear it here as a live studio recording. JP was a great guy.
@@tbwatch88Joy Division was far superior. New Order was dark entertainment. As far as major British late 70s to contemporary bands, obviously The Cure is number 1, Echo number 2, personally I put The Waterboys number 3. Nope, U2 is big band political nonsense.
U2 is big band crap, but gotcha. Best British bands of the 80s are Echo and the Bunnymen, The Cure, and The Waterboys. That's not an opinion, it's a fact.
Miles , Miles Better Than U2 Ever Were ,No Comparison . Such A Great Band . Pete Really Was An Astounding Drummer ,They Were Such A Great Band ,All Great Musicians ,Great Songs That Created Moods And Tension ,Great Great Band .
LOL That's what my pastel chalks do when I begin to create my chalk drawings on black paper ... To mimic the full moon midnight ambiance and reflections ... The chalk colors turn to powder ...🦇🍻🤘😎
Fancy a pint ...totally Ignored. Fancy a beer ....Totally ignored. Fancy a pint Duke...Yes please...Thanks matey. Ian McCulloch finally answering to my generosity.
Thanks ! Can't remember having listened to those before ! PS Golden Smile = Show of strength. Where did you have those song titles from ? were they called as you mentioned at the time ?
The Peel Session version is called That Golden Smile. This session was recorded 5 months before the album was, so the title of the song was changed after this was recorded. Are you suggesting that I rewrite history?
U2 backed up Bunnymen at the Lyceum I was there...Bono prance up and down the stacks.....then out of the dry ice emerged the coolest most magnificent sound the Bunnymen blew U2 completely off stage...U2 broke up in the dressing room....it took the manager months to get them back together...they left for the U.S. to learn how to play
No doubt its U2 was influenced by Echo & the B. Ocean Rain came out May 1984 and U2 realized they had to redo everything. Lo and behold out comes Unforgettable Fire in October of the same year. Both great albums but Unforgettable Fire was Ocean Rain rip off right down to the orchestration.
i listened to their peel sessions a few times along with jesus and mary chain....can't say I bothered listening to the Cure unless I wanna hear boys don't cry
Echo and the Bunnymen are in my humble opinion one of the all time greats never ever sold out
Oh so you've never heard Killing Moon, Crystal Days or Bedbugs & Ballyhoo etc. then.
Well the first bit is right, in fact an understatement. The greatest band in history. Both statements only apply to The Chameleons UK however.
@@bighill8272I have no idea what you're talking about.
@@trevorloughlin1492Greatest band in history is The Velvet Underground obviously. Greatest single musical artist is Bob Dylan. Echo agrees.
This was the springboard to recognition. Every week I'll listen to them.
Oh my ears ! This is fantastic !
Totally rad stuff here, love that 80s moody sound. Thank god the plentiful amount of great artists during this time!

I bloody love this. If asked to pick, then Turquoise days would be my fav Bunnymen track, so it's great to hear it here as a live studio recording. JP was a great guy.

Great Echo!!!
i would absolutely be on board for that.

PS Golden Smile = Show of strength.
Where did you have those song titles from ? were they called as you mentioned at the time ?
Bernard Fequer heaven up here is my favourite album ever made favourite cover too
Golden smile is actually a reference to Julian cope of the teardrop explodes, an old rival. The song is show of strength. Arguably their best ever.
jesus, de frietas. wow. monster.
Banda Foda!
Certainly with pete de freitas, not the drum machine
13:18 Sample "Carioca Funk" to Rio de Janeiro?
Boss
Dear Mr Echo; 6 Poor Souls hit the wrong thumb.
🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
The second track is "Show of Strenght" not "That Golden Smile"
The Peel Session version is called That Golden Smile. This session was recorded 5 months before the album was, so the title of the song was changed after this was recorded. Are you suggesting that I rewrite history?
Ian McCulloch greatest frontman ever ,Will Sergeant superlative highly experimental guitarist,Peter De Freitas sophisticated drummer
They sound a lot like U2. Perhaps U2 was influenced by Echo & The Bunnymen.
McCullough would have your head for that comment.
The Bunnymen shot the U2 spy plane from the sky, crashed in Liverpool near the docks.
yes this really sounds like u2
U2 backed up Bunnymen at the Lyceum I was there...Bono prance up and down the stacks.....then out of the dry ice emerged the coolest most magnificent sound the Bunnymen blew U2 completely off stage...U2 broke up in the dressing room....it took the manager months to get them back together...they left for the U.S. to learn how to play

ZIMBO JIMBO. PEOPLE ARE STRANGE ?
Drop life anyone?
i listened to their peel sessions a few times along with jesus and mary chain....can't say I bothered listening to the Cure unless I wanna hear boys don't cry
with the drum machine echo
without pete de freitas
Yeah I've got that one. it was there first ever peel session with the drum machine in 79 just before the mighty Pete DF joined.
