      @@Quotenwagnerianer Don't care much for the content of the speech in everyday use, I meant for the scene, the situation, and Walter, it's perfect. Men and women can provide. This is not the place for that discussion 😊

      Of course it is. Because Walt buys into that outdated idea of what constitutes a man. This is what triggers all his actions. The idea that Skyler and his family need to be taken care of financially before he dies.
      But why is that his job alone?
      He never even considers that Skyler can provide for the family just as well as he, if circumstances demand it.

    Another thing to consider is the theme of manhood. Walt was clearly emasculated by Skylers infidelity and then Jesse goes out and steals his formula to cook on his own. That's gotta bring to mind how Grey Matter stole his ideas and made millions. Gus read Walter like a book with his "A Man Provides" speech.

    Notes from podcast:
    Guests: Moira Walley-Beckett [episode writer] Betsy Brandt [Marie] Skip Macdonald [episode editor]
    1. This is the first time we’ve flashed back to the pilot. They had to cut things pretty heavily to make the footage they had flow for the way it was written here.
    2. The strip club scene was the hardest to get past standards & practices in BB. They auditioned the dancers by having them give lapdances to Moira & another woman. Aaron Paul couldn’t remember his lines in the scene 😄
    3. Walt feels like his marriage is over & his pride has taken a hit from Jesse cooking, so he’s going full steam ahead. Vince reiterates he’s on Skyler’s side.
    4. Hank & Marie having issues - they’re so in love that it’s hard to watch, but for the characters it’s probably normal. Marie likes & feels comfortable with Hank being a man of few words. What’s different here is _she_ doesn’t know what to say. How do you argue with someone who agrees with you? And he’s both defensive and a raw nerve. But some part of him knows she knows how he’s feeling. Though he’s gregarious, Dean is a very sensitive actor. They’re both emotionally naked. They love the “catch the bad guy?” line, which seems like a throwaway, but “it’s so not about anything, yet it’s about everything.”
    5. Más - 3x01, his answer to Gus was No Más, but now it’s Más.
    6. Superlab! That wasn’t a found location, it’s an amazing set they built.

      Jessica Jusr want to say that the strippers having to audition is hilarious. (but makes perfect sense) the idea of renting out entire locations for filming is fascinating to me, and I love the inside look into the process of putting a show like this together. My enjoyment stretches beyond the story. I like to know how it comes to being. Upon first viewing, it’s not easy to see things from Skyler’s point of view. As I rewatch the show, it’s easier to sympathize with the things she says and does. She doesn’t deserve so much hate.

    I love the framing in the dinner scene between Walt and his family. The camera places a pillar between Walt and Skyler, which represents the growing rift between them that has become a figurative wall. The camera also tends to place Walt Jr. with his father because he's always there to defend him. It's such a clever way to shoot the scene.

    I think you guys have to keep in mind that from Skylar's perspective, hell even Walt's perspective there's no threat of dying or being aware of axe murdering twins. The audience is the only one aware of that, so for Skylar, "It's not, tell my son my dad's a drug dealer, or let him die," it's "Let me protect my son from finding out what his dad, Walt's Jr. "hero" really is and does." If Skylar had any inclination that her family would be in direct danger, I think she would've have told Walt Jr. and gone to the cops waaaaay sooner. Anyways, just wanted to put my 2 cents on it,

    • @NikkiStevenReact
      @NikkiStevenReact  5 лет назад +24

      thank you!!!! pretty sure we are all aware of how dangerous the drug world is... we've all seen the news and even other TV shows. they may not know exactly how much danger they are potentially in but there's gotta be an assumption that living with a meth cook is not a safe thing. and we know she looked it up online so I'm going to assume she's aware of the potential dangers. -S

    • @wordswritteninred7171
      @wordswritteninred7171 5 лет назад +16

      And knowing this, Skylar has no excuse for her behaviors. Walt is no longer cooking. Its over. She has no idea about the danger. Its done and over with as far as walt and Skylar are aware. Yet she cheats with her boss! A known criminal. Who is currently committing the crime. Implicating Skylar. And refuses to stop. Yet Skylar is fine with that behavior. She is doing all this, not because she is so wholesome. She is doing it because Walt lied to her. She isnt even all that concerned with Jrs feelings. Look how she used him and his feelings to guilt Walt into taking treatment. If she was so concerned, she would have supported Walts decision to not fight cancer, and would have help Jr work through his feelings.

    Hank is really interested in the Heisenberg case, but the reason he is even more interested in it in these last two episodes is because he is also scared to go to El Paso, and because he keeps standing up El Paso, his career and competence is in question with his bosses, and that's why he is working so hard on the Heisenberg case; it's because he realizes his career is in jeopardy in many ways so he must do good work on this case to show his bosses that he is still a good agent and can be successful despite being wishy washy on El Paso.

    • @cassandrafoster616
      @cassandrafoster616 5 лет назад +3

      I just said the same thing and I've watched the series many times, this is the first I've realized that the only reason Hank's chasing after the blue meth is because he's scared to go to El Paso. He should be, I would be. But from the beginning of the series he acts so macho, tough and confident.. I can't help put recall the poker game in season one "You gonna man up or p*** out?" He's all posturing, no balls to back it up.

    • @ghenry4513
      @ghenry4513 5 лет назад +1

      @@cassandrafoster616 Yeah, and this also puts to bed the argument from a few people who try to say "suddenly turns into sherlock holmes" (such a hyperbole, btw, and juvenile bc Hank never shows himself to be anything except above average in his smarts, but he just works hard, and also holmes wouldn't have taken forever to find out it was Walt- these people just try to poke holes in the great show usually because they think the wire and sopranos or some other hbo show is better and they're jealous that BB is considered the best show above theirs) bc Hank is fighting for his career and has no choice but to solve this case in his eyes so he really has no choice the way he sees it but to do his best.
      Think lots of people have been in that situation with their boss or a teacher, where they are supposed to do something, but don't do it and then try to make up for it by doing great work in some "easier" area to keep up in good standing with the teacher or boss. It's like if your boss wanted you to do something, you didn't do it, but instead you did something else good to stay on their good side.. So it is bringing out the very best in him. Underlying that is that he and Marie also have ambitions to make it to Washington DC one day so Hank wants to be a hero for Marie and move them up in the world the way they see it.
      He was probably always fairly smart, but his posturing was his default personality and sort of hindered his detective skills since he was more of a superficial operator (the way he arrested Mr Archilea for marijuana) but in this conundrum with El Paso, he is fighting for his future and to prove he has what it takes, including to himself and Marie. So he is giving it everything he's got.

    I'm at a time of the year where I'm catching up on lots of movies I've missed through NF and rentals....I've watched some popular films of the last couple of years as well as some older ones from the 60s and 70s....and while they have their share of merits and qualities, I can't help but think of how unfulfilling they are compared to a masterpiece like Breaking Bad....Usually, I'll analyze the movie I just watched a little, discuss it, but then before I go to bed, I turn Breaking Bad on again just to get back to the truly great stuff. Story is really important to filmmaking, and many films these days have great cinematography (so does Breaking Bad), but are lacking in any depth or moral that lasts with you after you watch it.

    • @ghenry4513
      @ghenry4513 5 лет назад

      @Drake Lang - Thanks for the recommendation. Ill queue that one....
      I saw Black Panther, Roma, Blade Runner, "It" and a few others....Most are well-made productions, but they don't have any "classic" quality that would stick with and make you want to watch it again.

      @@ghenry4513 IMO BB employed the TAS ingredients that aren't used enough. Tension, Anticipation and Suspense. Many stories don't call for a lot of it, and that's okay too. But unfortunately some series and movies *could* use it and there are places to build it, but for some reason TAS isn't used.
      With BB it's like Vince said, "I'm going to OD my viewers on TAS."

    Gus stopped/delayed/paused the Green Light on Walt, otherwise Tuco's cousins would have already slaughtered him. Walt working for Gus is probably the only thing keeping him alive at this point, the question is "Will Tuco's cousins go off the leash and violate Gus's authority?"... Shylar has second thoughts just in time to find Walt has left the house and their marriage. That's timing for you.
