Brazil take on USA in the preliminary rounds Pool B contest of the women's volleyball at the London 2012 Olympic Games (30 July).
Volleyball was conceived as a less strenuous alternative to basketball. The sport became popular very quickly and made its Olympic debut in 1964.

Anytime its USA vs Brasil, it's like finals. Worldcup or Olympic, prelim or whatever it's like finals all over... Top top class. My two fav teams ever!!

I am Brazilian. I was so proud of Brazilian woman volleyball team to have won the gold medal. But I have to recognize US team was the most consistent team of the Olimpics, despite of having been beaten by the Brazilian in the the gold medal match. As americanas jogam bem em jogo de 1ª fase, mas não suportam jogos decisivos como finais de mundiais e olimpíadas! elas se descontrolam! Aconteceu isso na casa delas nos jogos de Los Angeles 84 perdendo para a China na final olímpica por 3 a 0! E em seguida 2 derrotas consecutivas para o Brasil em Pequim 2008 e Londres 2012!!
O Brasil já superou essa tensão, o time brasileiro é muito mais maduro que o americano em jogos decisivos que valem medalha de ouro!!
Mas levamos um chocolate delas em Tóquio

I had never even touched a ball when I first started watching videos like this. Now I play for my school team. My strongest point is my serve. The other teams literally usually say, "Oh it's Mona's, its Mona's serve, step back get ready". Such an ego boost. My setting and receiving still needs alot of work though. 😭
I play volleyball for my school. This gives me hope that one day I can be as good as them! Hoping maybe one day I could be an Olympic Volleyball Player. Love these girls they can play so well! ♥

The Brazilian starting squad in the gold-medal match was: Fabiana (captain), Sheilla, Jaqueline, Thaísa, Fê Garay, Dani Lins (setter) and Fabi (libero). The subs were Paula Pequeno, Fernandinha (setter), Tandara, Adenízia and Natália.

I dont know... my dream for my school team is for us to be able to play together like a team like this. We don't connect at all and a lot of the girls do have attitudes. I love volleyball so much but... they are just killing it for me this year.

I love how everyone thought Brazil was dead but they came back to life.
At 18:45 a player on Brazil's side was called for a double hit. meaning she hit the ball twice, (for example: when a setter sets the ball and it comes up spinning in a sideways motion, that typically means she doubled.)

Lastimosamente yo conocí este equipo de USA cuando ya no es el actual, salvo algunas jugadoras. Ese equipo de London 2012 me enamoró. Es grande y muy poderoso. Las extraño mucho.
De acuerdo!!! este nuevo equipo tiene buenas jugadoras, pero no lo suficientemente buenas. Fueron eliminadas en cuartos de final en VNL, aun no lo supero! :(

The Brazil has one of the best leagues in the world of volleyball. Even had the Hooker playing for Osasco in 2011/12 and Logan Tom in Unilever in season 2012/13.

The player with a different color jersey than their team is called the libero. The libero can be used for a free substitution. However; they can only play back row. Liberos are usually used to sub out hitters that are bad at passing in the back row.

Hooker can have the most spectacular attack, but no one cant beat Sheila. She's the most intelligent opposite. She knows where to put the ball and dont need strength to do this. All the world never will forget what she did with the russians girls in the Womens's Quarterfinals. I bet that American trembled when they saw that game. Brazilian deserved this championship because they were finalists in major disputes the Olympic cycle. Was vice champion at the World when American even reached the podium, unable to beat the Russian feared, something we did later. To them the Grand Prix and the World Championship. To us, the best, the Olympic Games. Brazil, Russia and the United States. Who wants to be a champion you have to hit at least two of these selections.
