- Louis Armstrong & his All Stars Live in Berlin. 1965. My Father, Eddie Shu on clarinet. The clarinet is very quiet in the mix because that's the reality with horns. The solo's are fine.

Thank you 🙏
The one and only Satchmo. I saw him and his All Stars and Velma Middleton at Earls Court London. The loveliest person and musician.
I wish i was 20 years old in 1965. But....i was 1 year old in 1978....but always loved Sactchmo....Jazz....big band.
What musicians!🎶🎶🎶
They really are ALL stars--(each one). When I first moved to New York, I was hoping to find this kind of music like every night in the City. (Thank God for You Tube...and MANY thanks to the person who posted this. I've now watched this at least a dozen times. Never gets old. I especially love the variations on "Hello Dolly" at 14:89 and 16:06 (the chord progression & improv).
Wondering where they were playing in Berlin in 1965 (had to be West Berlin, as this kind of music was outlawed in East Berlin under Soviet rule...)
What a fantastic performance! I have an old record off Louis Armstrong and his all stars. What great talents the were!
Legend of jazz.Warms the heart watching this concert.
This is so wonderful that it brings tears to my eyes. My dad, who was a WWII, vet loved Louis Armstrong and his all stars. I do too!

Louie has such a great personality, he makes you smile and feel that its good not to take things too seriously.
I can't stop of lisen this video :v
I think this was recorded live in EAST Berlin (amazing) at the Friedrichsstadt Palast, March 22, 1965. (Soviet controlled East Berlin allowed some jazz concerts after World War II, but the regime initially resisted it as an American influence on culture. In 1947, Ernst Busch established Eterna Records for jazz, folk, classical, and church music. By 1960, the West German minister of defense declared jazz to be music for the new West German army, and it could be heard on state-sponsored radio and television stations. Surprised they allowed in this all American group to East Berlin. (Bet they went crazy!!)
E'stato e sara'semre il piu'grande di tutti.
Apresentações das melhores😅
This music is art and feeling at its highest level.
Thanks for looking...that's my father on clarinet. Aloha, Evan
Just beautiful!!! Excellent performance!
"Black and Blue" was awesome! Inspired moments throughout.
I've watched this until I'm blind. This is so wonderful. I love Eddie Shue's performance.
I love lewis
This has to be one of Pops' most moving renditions of "Blueberry Hill"...
Thank you rainer tbis is the best I love, louis armstrong I went too his house in. queen ny his house is a museum and louis present was there beautiful thank you for posting
Thank you
This is greatness. Wow! Amazing!
Never sufficiently credited as an addition to the all stars, Tyree Glenn was playing superb trombone behind Pops. The highlight of this set comes early: an imperishable "Black and Blue". There's a back story thst I cant remember that engendered the sheer ferocity of Pops's playing here! He was very angry at something or someone.
Prodigious !¡
Mi padre descansando con sus pantuflas en el sillón el mágico tocadisco mi hermana y yo jugando mamá criando a los pequeños el mar verde esmeralda
So glad to hear that in 1965 Louis was still capable to play some great trumpet ! Apart from him, the best musician here is Tyree Glenn on tb .
danny barcelona dude!
@@ceelee321Nice guy, great hands, but had a tendency to rush, especially during 4-bar or 8-bar breaks. Sometimes Pops played straight quarters to get the band back in the groove.
The best musician in the band, apart from Pops, was Billy Kyle. He had great time, took good solos, and served as something of a music director for various projects begun by record producers like Milt Gabler and George Avakian
POtentially, you are right, but I think Billy Kyle wasted his considerable talent spending all these years in what was less and less a All stars, playing the same tunes every night, and to my ears losing his inspiration. He deserved much better @@MrKlemps
No, definitely not him, ordinary drummer, poor technique and no swing, he wasted almost single-handly the Ellington / Armstrong album ! @@ceelee321
Love you louis
I only knew of Eddie's work with Gene Krupa, so it's good to learn of his clarinetting, as a lover of that instrument.
I just can’t get enough of that trombone!
Thank you for looking. Aloha, Evan
Maravilloso eleva el alma escucharlos felicidad
Thanks Evan. Your Dad's a fine clarinet player- had to be to play with Louis ! Just love the All Stars. Saw them in 1956 and 1962. Best , swinginest small big band sound ever. Pete Barnard
what a beautiful soul !! god might be having a very good time :D
great post. Thank you very much, mr. Shulman
No commercials to interrupt the music with ad blockers. Great upload.
Zeer goede muziek. jammer dat zulke mensen niet het eeuwige leven hebben. Dank voor het hoorbaar maken van deze muzikale herinnering.
Evan, I am related to you. My mother Rebecca Shulman who is 96 yrs. old is Eddie's first cousin. They used to spend summers together in Brooklyn, NY. ,where Eddie lived then. I'm a musician. When I was fortunate enough to receive a grant from the National Endowment For The Arts to go to New York in 1977 and learn with Lennie Tristano, (who also know Eddie by the way, Eddie responded to a letter sent to him by my mom about this grant and Eddie wrote he was happy to learn that there was another saxophonist in the family. I was saddened to learn a little latter that Eddie died. I wanted to meet him someday. He was one of my idols since the time that I was a kid. My other cousin Roger Greenberg another saxophonist in our family had previously met Eddie. My mom is still alive. I put some samples of my own musical efforts on You Tube under my name, tomtaksa My mom says in her opinion, I was influenced by Eddie's playing. Thank you for sharing this historical music. The least I can do is share my own musicial efforts at just my own ability. My mom used to tell me all about Eddie and how he was self taught. I think I heard that you play. I think music should not be hidden. Thank you, once again for your generosity, in sharing these things with everyday people such as myself. Sincerely, Tom Taksa
Thomas Taksa COOL! Great great comment friend
@@counter-weightmedias2263 Thank you also!
I saw your father with Gene Krupa at some point around 1960--at Boston's Storyville. He was a real pro who could play convincingly in any style. This concert from 1965 is probably the last time Pops was still in truly great trumpet form. Of course by then he had blown about FOUR lifetimes of really strong, powerful trumpet!
Wonderful!!!! No words!
Thank you for looking Paola. Aloha, Evan
Put it this way, I've listened about 3 or 4 times this week now. I was drunk as a skunk the other day with mates crashing out in the room with me and just had to put this on to finish the night off to, was 4 wasted guys in a room in awe of what they were hearing . This is a total GEM. You ought to be massively proud as I am sure you are.

For sure I guess Evan Shu is proud! Thanks a lot fellow for share this jewel!
Fabulous story.. great.. thx for sharing 🤍💚💙💖
so great....so great...
Pure Genius...
Just finished reading maestro Amstromg book when he grew up on new Orleans fron 5 years of age to the time he joined King Oliver in Chicago.
I love every word he wrote and spoke. This is a genius.
I bow to him. His trumpet performance will live forever.
We are blessed . A great musician. We will never stop learing and admiring this great artist.
All his musicians and this fabulous singer are out of this world. I can't stop crying with joy. My son Pablo Mendelssohn is another brilliant lead trumpeter in London West end leading the musical Back to the Future. And lead with the Specials now on tour.
And many other great musicals ect ect.
Louis Amsgrong would we be proud of his talent. As he is of Louis.
This is one of my favorite performances by Luis, especially with Eddie, and is on my permanent favorite music video list. Thanks Evan
My pleasure. Aloha, Evan

All is super I like it.
I first noticed Eddie in the 60’s as a child actually. Then, they’d broadcast shows like this. I loved his tone especially. I wondered why he wasn’t ‘better known’ but possibly he was.
Que talento esta respetado músico, me hace recordar de mi tío Darlyn Marshall, el tocaba 7 instrumento y uno de ellos era el zaczofon.ya no salen estos artista.
Awe man, thanks for sharing this! Sooooo good!
Ms. Jewel Brown is still alive and swinging it. God Bless JEWEL!! She's great and her name is so appropriate. Gorgeous tone & syncopation!! Wow--what talent!!! Swing it Ms. Jewel!!

From this Lansman, Evan, your dad could play.
Excellent... I love this piece !
Your father was a great clarinetist !
I've heard a version where the clarinet is more present... it's very very nice !
It's huge for me. It's all been a great adventure. I'm glad you and your mates enjoyed it. I have videos of my father with Gene Krupa as well. He plays sax and harmonica on those videos. Click my picture and scroll down to Eddie Shu. Aloha, Evan

Yo...Evan, just read your name brother......YOUR DAD HAS THE BEST SONG ON THIS VIDEO............and I'm sure you know, He and Danny, didn't smoke weed with the rest of the band.........and they did some amazing music together!
Hey I think I just saw a large format screening of this concert at the recent Satchmo Fest in New Orleans! That was the first time I heard of Eddie Shu, I am ashamed to say, and I was absolutely blown away by his solos in this show. I came on the Web specifically to look up if this concert was available because I wanted to find his solos again. Would you consider posting some edits separating out the songs so it would be easier to find your father's bits? An anecdote: amazingly right after this was screened, the presenter said that if we hurried up and went outside to the stage we could catch Jewel Brown singing live, having just seen her back in 1965 with the Armstrong ensemble. So my friend and I ran down and indeed caught her belt out a few numbers. She had to be helped to a chair but her voice had lost none of the power and her attitude none of the sass, though it was FIFTY YEARS later! I have a new mission to spread the word about Eddie Shu, surely he should be far more widely recognized? You must be very proud. All the best!
+Duo Konrad Rosa I just saw this post but there is some new stuff of my father. Click my picture and scroll down to Eddie Shu. Aloha, Evan
Saludos oigan porque no las ponen subtituladas por favor
🤍HE SEEMS TO BE TOTALLY FREE, IN THIS CONCERT💐
😁😁😁👍👍👍🤔

Thanks for posting this great music feast. I am curious if Satchmo ever played and/or was recorded with Harry James, another great trumpeter who was in fact greatly influenced by Satchmo.
None of the bios of Louis Armstrong mention this meeting, so I doubt very much if it ever happened. HJ venerated Pops and once said something about giving up women (or was it boo+e?) if he could play as well as Louis Armstrong.
Ah yes, my favorite has to be "Big Noise", is that correct? Incidentally I originally stumbled across that but of a different upload a couple of months ago while looking into Gene Krupa. I had never linked the two until recently. ALLOOOOHAAAAAA!!!!!!
Player
Mr Shulman, do you have the link to download (for free) this beautiful piece of art? You would save me a lot of time. Greetings from Chile :D
I use Firefox and video download helper. Not sure what else is out there. I don't have my own server or anything like that. Just sharing videos of my father. Aloha, Evan
