    Today I went to the bank and picked up my usual box of halves, when I opened the box I realized there was A 63 ben franklin ender ! I kept looking and found a total of seven silver enders, which is absolutely crazy because the most silver I had ever found in a box before was just a single coin! I knew this had to be a collection dump, and it was just that! After opening all 50 rolls I was astonished to have found 63 silver coins !!!

      I ended up getting 11 Ben franklins, and one 64. The Rest were 40%ers.
      On one of the 63 Franklins I also found a DDR !

      That's a great haul. Cherish it. The next few boxes will be very disappointing. :-) Its the double edged sword of a great box. They are typically few and far between and you get it in your head that every box is going to be a banger.

    1:22 I will say that the silver half proof half dollars (excluding 1968-70s's and 1976-s 40% silvers) started in 1992. Unfortunately a 1971-s would not be silver. Awesome hunt GA, want to hunt a half dollar box soon.

    Excellent hunt!!!! QUESTION: Where did you find a book, or some other resource, that lists all the errors and varieties for each year and mint mark of all US coin denominations? My R.S. Yeoman Whitman Red Coin book has MANY coins that are not listed! If possible, I’d like to find a written guide that details just exactly what Pickup Points (PUPS) I should be using in order to diagnose the error/variety. Does this make any sense? Thank you and happy hunting!!!!

      I picked up a lot of this through perusing a lot of website and various books. The two big books to buy are Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties of United States Coins (An Official Whitman Guidebook) Volumes 1 and 2. There are Kindle Versions available, for cheap. They are releasing new and update versions of these books in August in hard and soft cover. The other good one is Strike It Rich with Pocket Change: Error Coins Bring Big Money (amzn.to/46VcpvE). Also check out PCGS Price Guide and VarietyVista.com.

    you mentioned it shortly i think, something about all the black marks on the sides of the coins, can you explain what thats about? i think you said collectors coin dump? idk, just interesting to me. i tried this years ago with a couple rolls here and there i didn't like the way the bank would act when i would bring it up, so didn't stick with it long enough to try full boxes. Im older now w more money so the bank treats me better and decided to give it another go. My first box was a skunk but decided to try again from a different bank and scored almost a full roll of 40 percenters so I'm completely hooked! I'm waiting for my next two boxes I ordered last week! I get the craziest rush of adrenaline when they are handing me the box😂 Thanks for the Videos and all the info you include!

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  11 месяцев назад +1

      So a lot of CRHers will mark coins so they know if/when they get them back. I hate it but I lot of them do it at some point or another. I went through probably 40 boxes one year where the majority of the coin had 3 black lines on the edges of the coins. Meaning the person open the roll... held the whole roll together between their fingers and then took a sharpie and just made 3 lines from the top of the roll to the bottom down the side so the marker left black lines on the edges. I did a coin roll hunt like 2 years ago where I pulled all the unique marked coins out of box and I had like 18 different markings. This hobby is very hot and cold. This year has been a good steady stream. Last year was 1 HUGE box followed by 20 skunk boxes.

    I have a question to ask. Of all the boxes of machine-rolled half dollar coins that you've bought from the bank(s) you go to, what percentage of them contained silver? The other day, I went to every single bank in my neighborhood and one neighborhood over, and of the $500 in half dollar rolls I got from the banks, I only found 2 silver half dollars that were 40%, no 90% from 1964 or earlier. In all likelihood, they weren't machine rolled, but it has me wondering if I would have better chances of finding silver coins if I ordered boxes with machine-rolled half dollars

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  8 месяцев назад

      I don’t keep stats and rarely come across customer wrapped halves. I find, by far, the majority of my silver in Brinks (black) wrapped coin rolls. Loomis is very slow in Georgia. Maybe the occasional 40% out of every 10 boxes from my experience. This year have been finding silver in about every other box (on a guessed average)

    Those NIFC's are basically meaningless and not worth saving, for the large number of minted coins combined with the fact that far fewer collectors are into collecting halves.

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  8 месяцев назад +1

      It depends on the individual. I tend to agree they don't carry a ton of value today unless in a full set or if you find a collector that just can't find the handful they need to finish their collection. For the future... who knows. They are pretty low mintage.

      I reroll and take them to different banks. I have 3-4 banks branches that I do the majority of my returns and I rotate through them so I don't overwhelm any one branch. Its more important for Halves than it is for other denominations as most banks are happy to get back quarters, dimes, etc. Just make sure you put a mark on the wrappers of your returned coins so you don't pick them up a second time. :-)

      Hahaha I love when they use coin shortage as an excuse. Especially when ordering half dollars.

      @@GASilverHunter i know its just great. Which banks do let you order though? Or what do you recommend i should do? I appreciate any help!

      I order through 5/3rd. Wells Fargo gives me most of my customer wrapped change and I have one branch that will order for me, but I use them rarely. The only advice I have is go to new banks or new branches of banks you are already a member. If one bank won't work with you... work with another bank. :-)

      I have an online store with some items in it. A lot more I need to put in there but I haven’t taken the time.

    So does the bank get mad when you buy a box of coins and then bring most of it back for them to re-roll?

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  6 месяцев назад +1

      They don’t reroll them. I do. I even pay for my own wraps. I don’t take half dollars back to the same bank that ordered them for me.

    I don't get the math here. Spend $1000.00 dollars to get $50.00 dollars in silver? Hmm.

    • @GASilverHunter

      Buy $1000 in halves. Find $50 in silver in just 5 half dollars (or $2.50 face). Return the $997.50 that’s not silver to the bank. Now I have made $50 for spending $2.50. Make sense now? This is an example of course. I don’t remember the exact break down of silver finds in this video.

      Not to bust your.... I have so much silver and the bank doesn't buy it back other than fave value. half Silver dollar is worth half dollar. Not profitable at all for all the time and money you spend.

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  5 месяцев назад +1

      Ok... a couple of points here as I think either we are having a failure to communicate, or you don't understand how silver and gold sales work. 1. I sell back the clad (non-silver half dollars) to the bank. they give you face value. So in my example if I spend $1000 on half dollars and return $997.50. I "lost" or "spent" $2.50 and not $1000. 2. No bank in America buys silver half dollars for silver value. They are a bank and these coins are still considered legal tender with a face value of 50 cents, so they can not buy it for any more than that. Main downfall of FIAT currency. Our paper money is not backed by anything so its worth what the government says its worth. 3. You sell your silver half dollars to someone like me, other coin collectors, local coin shops, local or online gold and silver bullion dealers, etc and they will offer you a price based on the melt value (+ or - their premiums) for that silver. This is not a paper exercise. If you believe your only option is to sell it to the bank for face value... shoot me an email and I will make you an offer to buy it based on melt price. gasilverhunter@gmail.com
