    What's even cooler about the interaction between you and Ayre if you doublecross swinburn like that is that Swinburn's behavior and build are likely a reference to Unbreakable patches. What's more is that Ayre asking you if you "learned that from Walter" is significant, because Walter's VA is the original VA for Patches, and what does patches do in every single game we meet him in? That's right, he tries to double cross us.

      Yeah my thinking is that Walter fought in the Jupiter war alongside Michigan. We know that Walter was sent to Jupiter just before the fires of ibis and we also know that walter is a skilled AC pilot from what ALLMIND says in the last mission of NG++. I wish we knew a timeline of when the Jupiter war occurred but from G6 Red's arena profile it says "As a young boy, Red's life was forever changed when he saw the news broadcasts of Commander Michigan's brutal triumphs in the Jupiter War." If Red is in his late 20's to 30's then the timing seems to workout IMO.

      @@mfnfju Handle Walter gives me Banagher vibes (Unicorn Gundam), especially when you find out that his AC is an IB-series. ALLMIND seems almost-surprised by his ability as an AC pilot, though it's hard to say for sure, we don't know anything about his past between the Fires of Ibis and the Story Trailer other than that Walter seems to have worked with Cinder Carla throughout some of those years iirc.
      His ability as a pilot, the fact he was entrusted with or escaped the Fires of Ibis using an IBIS AC, and his father's identity as the inventor of human augmentation technology...I think there are some dots to connect which lead to an interesting story.
      Professor Nagai activated the IBIS program in response to a possible coral singularity. One of the machines, probably an early prototype AC-IBIS hybrid that likely was a testbed for tech, was used by Cinder Carla to escape with kid-Walter in tow. Nagai is said to have completely lost his mind and wanted to experiment with coral-based cyborg human augmentation...is it possible that Walter was experimentally-enhanced by his own father in some way that didn't kill him as he aged and wasn't particularly obvious? Probably not, but I think there's a connection between his past as a child of the inventor of human augmentation, his ownership of that AC, and his combat prowess.

    (Note: Spoilers for missions towards the end of NG, NG+ and beyond)
    In addition to the logic behind G13 "becoming available," it's worth mentioning that, in the alternate version of the 'attacking the dam' mission where you decide to, instead, destroy the Redguns ACs, you get a glimpse into what might be a form of friendship between Walter and Michigan - Michigan does become angry, yelling at Walter that us attacking the other Redguns is a "low blow," but once you are successful Walter calmly advises Michigan "you can bill me for the AC repair fees." Michigan responds to this with a (possibly joking, he sounds very over-the-top as usual but has a petulant tone he usually doesn't have) comment that he'll be "billing you for tuition fees, too" because you interrupted the mission. This makes sense as, after the default mission, he mentions that the "good-for-nothings are good for something after all!" Implying that G4 and G5 are not exactly the stars of the Redguns and were out on this mission partly for training purposes.
    This is the only time, that I've found at least, that Walter expresses any kind of sympathy for the ACs or pilots you defeat, and it feels like it's because Michigan is in command and, though his voice is as calm and level as ever, he feels bad about inconveniencing Michigan, even though it's not exactly a big deal because neither pilot died. There are no scenarios where, for example, Walter says that he'll have to reach out to Arquebus about helping to repair Vesper ACs. This also explains why, if you decide towards the end of the game to hunt down Michigan, Walter sounds upset with your decision, though he doesn't actively question you - he says "Just get it done. There's nothing else to say."
    In this scenario it's also worth mentioning that the only penalty you get from this is losing out on the 190k payout from Balam's mission. You aren't personally charged, either for repairs or 'tuition,' implying that Walter didn't even have to dip into your rewards in order to pay off those repair fees. This, in addition to the fact that often you can complete certain objectives in missions to earn "bonuses from Walter," serve to show that Walter is in fact a man of considerable means, with enough money available to easily pay off the cost of repairing two Redguns ACs without batting an eye. It's not outwardly stated how valuable an individual COAM credit is, but given your mech can cost upwards of 40kCOAM to fix after a particularly rough mission, and things like powerful experimental generators are in the range of 400kCOAM, the probably 90-100kCOAM required to repair 2 ACs damaged past the point of functionality is not exactly chump change.

    One detail I like is the name of the last ending, alea iacta est. Those words mean something like "the dice have been rolled" so something that has begun cannot be stopped anymore.
    Rubikon (or Rubicon in Latin) is a river in Italy and was the border of the Roman Empire. When Cesar crossed it sometimes around 50 BC, he supposedly said the words "Alea Iacta Est" and his political schemes started which had massive effects on the Roman Empire

    • @dare4207
      @dare4207 Год назад +6

      It means the die has been cast. Or basically it means passing the point if no return. It’s what Caesar supposedly said when he ignored Romes command to disarm and turn around and instead he took his army across the River Rubicon and marched directly on Rome actively declaring war.
      Also worth noting because it was where he crossed the River Rubicon and this was the point of no return. Both first two endings essentially just kick the problem down the road to the next generation to solve, whereas the 3rd is you bringing rubicon 3(planet not the river but another reason why this was named as such) and the galaxy beyond a point of no return in regards to keeping the coral can of worms shut.
      Once you do it there is no containment procedure for coral throughout the galaxy and by its own nature Coral will just infinitely propagate and evolve without us being able to control it.

    For the worm, I’ve done it with a few builds that don’t mount the needle launcher. I always take a fast build that mounts coral generators, because having that infinite flight is extremely useful in avoiding the worm’s ground bombs, as well as stopping it from ramming you.
    The hardest was with four shotguns, dual Haldemans and dual Sweet Sixteens. The main reason it was difficult was because of how close you have to get in order for shots to deal damage.
    Using four pulse weapons deleted the worm’s shield very quickly, and had the range to do so relatively safely. With this and the shotgun build you had to usually be directly in front of the worm. Being off to the side would generally see shots miss. The coral generator allows you to stay in front of it with just enough altitude that you won’t actually get hit.
    A way of doing it that’s slower than the pulse loadout but MUCH easier and safer is with heavy linear rifles and your choice of accompanying weapons for the damage phase. The charged shot from a linear rifle has great range, damage and projectile speed, and gives some leeway for positioning as a result.

    Fun Fact: Unbreakable is the most replayed boss theme in the game, making it a staple of combat throughout your time on Rubicon.
    With it being a theme that plays multiple times, select members of the community have taken to calling it '621's boss theme' in refrence to how the DOOM soundtrack is Doom Guy's theme.
    It also makes sense from a lore standpoint since 621 technically never fails a mission from AC destruction, making them quite literally "Unbreakable."

    8:48 I noticed and really, really appreciated this about AC6's story. People talk about how "Grounded the story of X game or Y movie was", but rarely are these stories ACTUALLY GROUNDED. They're superhero stories/hero's journeys with a different coat of paint.
    AC6's story is truly grounded and gritty when viewing it from the perspective of every character that isn't Ayre or 621; Walter had to form a series of cutthroat plans that feel very believably cautious, usually allowing for room for error or not allowing for room for error only when there's a good chance of success. All of this with the big asterisk that he's hedging his plans on a Gen 4 cyborg pilot, which evidently make for believably-good odds once we complete the game and realize how effective C4-621 is supposed to be canonically.
    But my point is that all of the large-scale plans being put in place by the various forces at play feel fairly believable, with the exception being BALAM's poor performance relative to Arquebeus, and Arquebeus' ridiculous tech advantage over BALAM. Maybe this has a good explanation somewhere that I'm not aware of or will be explained in DLC, but it's weird to see BlackRock-Ferrari beat Knight's-Armament-General-Motors in a land war, so to speak...you'd think that Arquebeus would win tactically but lose en masse on Rubicon which would be reflective of their quality-over-quantity approach in doctrine.
    Edit: 9:03 pulse weapons are the answer I'm sure, they're the counter to shield bosses.

    I've noticed a few things about FromSoft in the recent games they've made.
    For starters, they almost always have had a boss fight where you are given a special weapon to make the boss fight significantly easier, and would be much harder without it. In DS3, It was Yohm the Giant, in Elden Ring, it was Rykard. And in AC6,, it's the Ice Worm.
    Secondly, there seems to be a bit of an obsession with fire in those same games as well. In DS3, the whole game was based around fire, in Elden Ring, you commit arson (well not you directly, but arson is still committed,) and AC 6 Is called "Fires of Rubicon" which definitely means that arson will be committed at least once in the game.

      That first one is not recent - the first incarnation I can recall was Demon’s Souls, where the Storm Ruler was first introduced - Dark Souls 3 brought it back, but it wasn’t well received at all because Yhorm was just a boring boss. Rykard and the Serpent Hunter was a massive improvement because the weapon felt better to use, and the fight was more entertaining.
      Personally, the Ice Worm is the best iteration of “take this to make the boss significantly easier”. It’s not a main weapon, so it doesn’t disrupt your build as significantly (though it is heavy and energy intensive) and the whole going in with Chatty, Iguazu and Snail whilst Rusty mans the ORC with Michigan and Walter on comms makes the mission just feel more alive

    about the paint, certain ac’s use special painting patterns. iguazu, for example, has a red patch on his left shoulder. his color scheme will stay the same when you unlock the edit lock, but the patch is removed.
    the student being g13 is weird. in the context of a first playthrough, when michigan says “your ability to ruin my field trips is uncanny!”, he can’t be talking about us fighting g4 and g5, because we only get that opportunity from ng+ onwards, so he’s definitely talking about how that field trip was meant for the student to gain more experience, and we just caused him to have to swap. however, what happens to g7 to g12? you could say that g7 to 12 are not on rubicon, except for the fact that g7 hakra is k.i.a, and is one of the ac’s we looted in mission 1. so, if the number 13 is so unlucky, why do new recruits start at 13? is the callsign reserved for people not scouted by the redgun or not working for balam? or are there 12 members in total in redguns and we’re/the student is the 13th? was the redgun considering that student because g7 was killed? if there are other redguns, why aren’t they on rubicon?
    on the other hand, whenever there is a spot, vesper members would promote into it. our arquebus liaison pater started out as v viii, then by jailbreak he’s v v, then towards the end he’s v iii, which is kind of a neat detail.
    also, if anyone’s like me and wonders why nightfall isn’t in the arena, that’s because we stole their callsign so technically nightfall’s already “registered” in the arena. also, xylem looks like a spider, and carla has a spider emblem, so i think that’s kinda neat.
    and, if you’re interested, high ranking (i guess) members of the rubicon liberation front are named after fingers. thumb dolmayan, middle (finger) flatwell, ring (finger) freddie, index (finger) dunham, and little (pinky) ziyi. plus, if you’re wondering how they’ve survived for half a century after the fires of ibis, they eat those mealworms that you see in the second to last chapter 4 mission. them digging coral is also probably to feed those mealworms.
    it seemed to me like redguns have a naming scheme too, but i haven’t figured it out yet because i’m not familiar with what i think are the locations that they reference. michigan is likely referencing lake michigan, because iguazu coincides with the iguazu waterfall, and nile and hakra are rivers. red is referencing a river in washington, i think? volta is referencing a river in ghana? wu huahai might be referencing a lake of flowers, or the wu river? and then there’s lower ranking members like kennebec, albany, and osawa (which i think is short for osawatomie?) who are probably referencing places in the us.
    as for vespers, i was thinking that they were using names of historical figures who are known for their intelligence because of swinburne, maeterlinck, and freud, but i have no clue about the rest, or if they reference anything at all.
    speaking of vespers, i think freud’s lore is kinda cool. his high ranking is because he tinkers with his ac and get it fit with the right tools for the right missions. that’s probably why his ac is called locksmith, as it’s able to provide the right “key” for the right “lock”. he’s basically an ac player.
    and in the mission, reach the coral convergence (i might have the mission wrong), on the top of one of the buildings is a log data belonging to an ibis series who witnessed the fires of ibis, and likely was also the one that causes it. the fires of ibis was caused by the ibis series, or an ibis series, which i think stands for institute b intelligence systems. basically an unmanned drone that’s programmed to deal with coral (probably by burning it or blowing it up). idk what the b stands for yet, but the generators and the ephemera set (i think) are ia, while all the other weapons, bosses, and the series hal are ib.
    there ya go. some cool things

I'm not 100% on it happening every single time but it definitely happens on Coral Convergence. And I feel like it's happened in other battles, too.

    So, for the Ice Worm, I initially didn't use the weapon because I straight up forgot to equip it, and just slogged through it with linear rifles & missile spam, then decided to replay it "properly." But the briefing says that it uses an advanced type of pulse shield. Well, there are 3 weapons that are really good at disrupting pulse shields: HI-16:GU-Q1, HI-18:GU-A2, and the weapon you get from beating it, EULE/60D. The Pulse Guns do reasonably well, but are offset by the the Boss' sheer mobility. But the Pulse Shield Launcher? More like Pulse Mine Launcher. If you can place a few in its path of travel while breaching, it just... Rips through the pulse barrier. I was *not* expecting it to be such a viable trap weapon. It seemed to do well overall, especially against more mobile enemies while providing a little extra defense.
    But the EULE is definitely a sleeper weapon, it has really high potential in the right hands.
    I just hope the recent patch didn't gut it like everything else...

    You don't even need a heavy weapon for infinite flight, although it does help.
    You just need a booster with good Assault Boost EN efficiency, like the Kikaku.
    Then, instead of letting yourself freefall straight down, keep moving in the air. It will slow your descent and your generator will still recharge after a few seconds.

    The thing about presets is, the game locks the data because the same data is needed for secret interactions in the game. My first encounter was with Steel Haze Ortus. When you use this AC at the Operation Wallclimber, At the last part of the mission rusty tells you something like this: "Steel haze is fast. You can use its speed to get around it." . I don't remember the exact phrase but the thing is, there are interactions with preset AC's.
    Edit: My fault I interpreted wrong. I was Using Steel Haze Ortus for a full run and I forgot it was its usual phrase in this part. I used other AC's just now. Sorry for my dumbass.

    I would guess that the Coral Generator's Assault Armor does Coral-type damage, which the enemy you were testing on had less resistance to than Energy-type damage. Since there is no Coral resistance, all enemies should take identical damage from coral weaponry, but heavier enemies should take less from other weapon types and therefor proportionally more from Coral.
    Worth testing I think.

    7:58 I don't really beliebe, that he was to be G13 anymore. At first NG I thought the same, but later started doubting it. "Just became available" might be an euphemism for number that nobody else would like to take. Like when guests come to you, you open a bottle of wine saying "it was waiting for you", while in reality you just forgot it and found just now.
    It was line in G1 call with Walter that affected my perception.
    G1 says "The way your hound's been up in my business, I'm surprised you'd even dare to call.". I think that if that pilot was to become redgun, Michigan would take it much more personally, knowing how he cares of his people (in his weird fashion).

    • @mkv2718
      @mkv2718 Год назад +1

      probably not actually. if you read about Michigan in the Arena, it mentions that he even put a bounty out on *himself* cuz well, he’s weird like that.
      and considering what you can do in Ng+ and beyond during the first mission you work with him, even if you choose that path Michigan doesn’t care (now Iguazu? that’s another story) but while disappointed in Walter, he clearly sees it as just business as usual. it doesn’t even come up again if you work with the Redguns.

    • @rainbowkrampus
      @rainbowkrampus Год назад +1

      I'll grant you that it's possible. But it seems unlikely.
      Thing is, nobody in the game is your friend. What I mean by that is that ever single thing in the game comes down to business. In context, everyone there is operating at the behest of some corporate master. Or in the case of Walter, personal conviction. While they may have their personal feelings, they're kinda irrelevant.
      Michigan in particular has seen it all and is fully aware of the expendable nature of every single person on that rock. He's amiable. He'll get frustrated when his mission is undermined. But end of the day, it's all just a job. That's the fundamental corruption at the heart of the AC universe and of capitalism more broadly.
      Simplest answer is, they got a new AC, they spent time and money training a new pilot for it. We never hear of another pilot. So that was probably the guy. And we merc'd him and suddenly G13 is now available.

    On the topic of Coral Generator infinite flight, I actually prefer to use the VP-20C circulating-current generator for infinite flight builds.
    Notably its stats are excellent across the board, it has a much faster post-EN supply regen period, and it still gives a hefty 1100 energy back.
    This lets you stay in the air easily even without heavy/charge weapons, and without having to wait out that longer coral-based Post-EN supply regen timer.
    It's also a lot lighter than the 2nd coral generator,
    On the smallest pvp map, I love to just troll my opponents with infinite flight under the stage, popping up to flank attack them from an unexpected side. Check it out sometime 621, I love it.

  • @LarkyLuna
    @LarkyLuna Год назад +17

    I don't think you actually need the weapon to get infinite flight
    just hold forward with boosters on and you'll fall slowly
    You lose height but you should make up for it when the generator is online again, letting you fly to the top of the map and stay there indefinitely. That was how i beat the stealth missions, hugging the left side near the max height lol

    To further expand upon the additional damage provided by the Coral generator: Coral is actually a separate damage type with it's own resistances, which are basically nonexistent; you do extra damage because the total amount of damage you deal doesn't get subtracted by the resistances parts provide. This holds up for weapons to, effectively meaning the Coral type weapons ignore defence; whilst niche this might help you speed up encounters with beefier enemies or give you the necessary oomph in PvP to overcome a heavier build.

    You don't even need to use ammo for unlimited flight. Boosting slows your fall enough to keep enough altitude to stay up so all you have to do is hold any direction when you're out of energy until it comes back. The weapon trick is a neat addition to the technique though.

I feel most people don't realise that our phenomenal perception of Grace and Coral is not absolute, by the general rule of thumb other habitants of the associated worlds do not see these marvellous spectacles; this is why Ayre remarks that it is strange Walter knows where the Coral converges, taken only on face value this might sound strange as we've been following the observable Coral.
