How it must feel to have that much unrestricted command over an instrument. This is greatness.

    • @jrobinsondrums

It's the point at which your instrument becomes part of you, and the music you make isn't a bunch of notes, it's just your voice speaking in your own language. It's every musician's dream to reach that state

I'm a guy from finland. My love for gospel, entrenched in my love for music in general brought me to this video. There is a universal dialect in play here.
Ludwig Wittgenstein told us we were restricted by the language/culture we adopted. Music is an avenue to true knowledge and expression of soul, I believe.
I will be forever grateful that youtube allows the spread of creativity the way it does.

For my money, what makes Corey Henry the best keyboardist is that he approaches each DIFFERENT keyboard with the touch and skills required for THAT instrument.
When he's on a B3, he uses the drawbars and Leslie to show what makes a B3 unique. See the Stevie cover he did with Nate Townsley and Mike League.
When he's on a Rhodes, he uses it like he's played it all his life.
When he's on a synth, he's constantly tweaking the resonance or delay to speak that language.
    On piano, just listen...
    When

I am 101 keyboardist and have decided to work on playing this Cory version thanks to Timothy Gondola transcription. If you dedicate a diary time I can say that it’s doable. But, after being able to play the first 2 minutes and enjoy ever note, you understand that the bottom line is not play like Cory, but how we was able to created such sophisticated arrangement. Then I started to pay attention to the original song. It’s like a fully different song but the soul is there. I can say that the learning to play this Cory arrangement is a kind of school. Despite the tough challenge, uncountable hours of dedication, it do expands your musical mindset.

Some players can hide behind the bells and whistles of synths and organs, not so for the piano.

2:55 That moment when he reharmonizes 3 chords in his line while seamlessly transitioning into the II. Unreal.

Songs by two of the two greatest.. and Cory added meaningfully to them in this performance. That's musicality of the greatest caliber.

That special sound when an organ-player plays piano: quite a rough touch, nearly no pedal. Some may say that's not the right way, but I like it !

This is such phenomenal play! Specially from minute 5',7''.....:) Cory has its own style, he's very original and such friendly approach to people! If I'd be a girl... ;) I just so much hope that Cory will continue to inspire people around the world to embrace "real music" again as (specially in NL) it seems that only electronic by computer designed "noise" is what people listen to (while needing pils and mushrooms to feel anything) while the music of Cory is such pure harmony and rhythm from top to toe which strikes and moves you without any need of additives!!!!!!!!! Just like the unhealthy food-industry with E-Numbers versus real BIO food! GO Cory GO!!!

I hear a lot of Chick Corea influence both in his lines and how he approaches the music stylistically. Very impressive player.
