It's the point at which your instrument becomes part of you, and the music you make isn't a bunch of notes, it's just your voice speaking in your own language. It's every musician's dream to reach that state
Some of us have been playing for years, and we know we'll NEVER be a fraction of his level. That doesn't mean we don't love music. In fact, that's part of what keeps us going and loving music all the more for it. Keep going!
I'm a guy from finland. My love for gospel, entrenched in my love for music in general brought me to this video. There is a universal dialect in play here. Ludwig Wittgenstein told us we were restricted by the language/culture we adopted. Music is an avenue to true knowledge and expression of soul, I believe. I will be forever grateful that youtube allows the spread of creativity the way it does.
For my money, what makes Corey Henry the best keyboardist is that he approaches each DIFFERENT keyboard with the touch and skills required for THAT instrument. When he's on a B3, he uses the drawbars and Leslie to show what makes a B3 unique. See the Stevie cover he did with Nate Townsley and Mike League. When he's on a Rhodes, he uses it like he's played it all his life. When he's on a synth, he's constantly tweaking the resonance or delay to speak that language. On piano, just listen... When
I am 101 keyboardist and have decided to work on playing this Cory version thanks to Timothy Gondola transcription. If you dedicate a diary time I can say that it’s doable. But, after being able to play the first 2 minutes and enjoy ever note, you understand that the bottom line is not play like Cory, but how we was able to created such sophisticated arrangement. Then I started to pay attention to the original song. It’s like a fully different song but the soul is there. I can say that the learning to play this Cory arrangement is a kind of school. Despite the tough challenge, uncountable hours of dedication, it do expands your musical mindset.
Older but greatest organist alive is Joey Defrancesco! On par with Cory's generation on piano is Robert Glasper. The generation under him Joey Alexander.
I love it when there's someone to point this out. I mean it! No sarcasm because camera work is sooooooooo important when cinematically capturing a moment . Musician, here, speaking......lol.
I appreciate his skill even more, since watching this.Although he is well known for his synth and organ work , his acoustic piano work is true proof that he put in the effort and time needed to master his instrument. Some players can hide behind the bells and whistles of synths and organs, not so for the piano.
A few week ago during my shelter in place to help limit the spread of COVID-19 I rot found this young man , love ❤️ his history can’t stop listening to him. I am also COGIC raised and that organ playing bless my spirit and my soul .
I just love the involuntary grunts, smiles, laughs, grimaces, and other expressions. That's how you know the man is deeply entrenched in what he's doing, and that he's loving every second.
Corey takes a groovy theme you might hear in jazz or even pop, and then does the most mindblowing improvisations on them. I always enjoy his playing so much
There is a wise saying. "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he us old he will not depart from it." I've seen videos of him playing the organ in church when he was 4 years old. He is a virtuoso now. Can't use GOAT bc in music it is too subjective. But he is def in the conversation.
@C B Jacob's awesome but I don't think he's even close to this level of playing ability (he's very good though), he's more of a music theory genius and composer.
Am just seeing myself in 7 years time, smiling like Corey because I have finally learnt how to sit at the piano like he does. Because that is what he doing right now
Cory Henry is a piano extraordinaire. The music flows as he feels his way with precision across the keys. Cory Henry you are a phenomenon. I love your style of endless scale running. Beautiful!!! BRAVO!!!❤️

Canteloupe Island: I've just heard this song taken apart in a Quantum Physics lab and reassembled with total love, joy and commitment in the heart of one of the greatest musical artists we may ever know. Imagine being allowed to sit and watch Van Gough or Basquiat painting.

This dude is not real, is he from another planet or dimension. Funky and smooth with swag and technique. It’s just not fare to have that much talent 👌🏿😳😳
While he is clearly his own man at the piano, some of what he plays brings the late Joe Sample to my mind. It is so good to see and hear these young musicians rising to prominence.

Truly one of if not the best funk and jazz pianist/organist of his time. Amazing work
Best Organist of his generation I think. On piano there are others more specialized in the piano as an instrument
Hiromi uehara, jacob collier, and many more...
You need to add in gospel where he started!!
I'd say of this generation, no doubt
