Well he is one of the Funk Apostles, after all. He also has a catch phrase to go with his name, "TaRon Lockett in the pocket!" because that's where he lives ;)
TaRon Lockett is such a solid drummer. I saw the Funk Apostles last year and he didn't miss a single cue even while playing with total freedom. His listening skills are what make him so good. He's constantly tuned in and reacting to Cory's every move.
How does a competent gospel organist become this singular jazz pianist? The voice leading, the left hand bass, all sound young and fresh. And that voice is angelic!
2020 may have been a dark year. It was also the year I discovered Cory's music. I've watched the brilliant Snarky Puppy recording 'Lingus' so many times. Thanks for sharing this beautiful Christmas mini concert. Hope to see Cory live in the near future!

I think that sums up Cory Henry's playing. He's such a powerhouse and has this crazy deep musical understanding but his sense of melody is so strong that everything still sounds grounded and pleasing no matter how complex it gets

Passion is infectious, when people like Cory and this amazing drummer put their passion out there it’s really a gift to the rest of the souls trying to find the passions in life. When I watch Cory play, and listen to him speak through his instrument I can feel the force of something bigger than either of us behind it. Something so big I can’t even describe the way it makes me feel. That’s what art is about, that’s what a true artist does for the rest of their kind. These are the translators to the great things we often can not understand.
