The secret sauce to Mesmerizers success is something I'll call, the FNaF effect. It's got just enough lore for it to be concise but with room for speculation. i was so surpreid when i heard teto's new voicebank, she went from the robotic backup vocals to the smooth as silk front girl! modern technology is amazing!
I remember following Caststation's social media and seeing promos for the song. I had a feeling it would get big due to their name being attached, but not quite to this level Also, the Mesmerizer lost media thing didn't exactly come from nowhere. It's part of a trend called "AU lostwave" where people upload snippets of well-known songs in low quality and everyone acts as if they were in an alternate universe where the full version is lost. There's one of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper with that has even more views than the Mesmerizer one last time I checked.
Also I'm not sure if I agree. If you look, Miku dressed like a waitress in a diner, whereas Teto is dressed a bit more formally, like a manager position. It starts with Miku being happy and satisfied with her job and her life, but soon it becomes almost mechanical, like she's been mesmerized. If you look, Teto is mesmerized by the end as well, likely because of the sadness she is struck with from watching Miku go from being happy all the time to being a mechanical robot, the spark in her eyes gone, leaving them cold and barren black holes. As Miku is getting treated poorly by the customers, it takes a visible toll on her mental health, leading to her making a decision to stuff all her emotions away, which was likely the days night scene. Teto only manages to resist the hypnosis because she knows how to handle it, unlike Miku who seems to only be at an entry level position. Miku also states "You're tailor-made for this era" which could be a call to terrible work conditions and everyone being expected to follow orders, do as they're told, and not question anything. Children go to school, teens and young adults go to college, adults go to work, seniors either work, retire into a nursing home, or get filled with medications to the point they aren't treated as humans. Teto also claims that "Your extra lives are quickly running out" which could mean one of two things; either it calls out that if someone messes up too many times (extra lives running out) they get thrown out, which would be a game over in this instance. Teto is asking for help to escape because she's fallen too deep into the cycle and needs help or encouragement to escape. Teto gets mesmerized by the end because even though she's used to the job, it must take a toll on you to see someone who used to always be happy turn into a piece of machinery with a plastic smile. Although Neru isn't in the song, when people draw her, they put her in the same outfit as Teto, but I would say as a CEO rather than a manager because she seems to be the one behind the hypnosis, or the company that Miku and Teto are working at. It seems like Neru isn't providing the best working conditions because she's always shown as being the one mesmerizing the two. Either she's ignoring the issues or is just straight up causing them. Personally I think Mesmerizer is a callout to the terrible life people are expected to live, with almost no freedom, and that freedom is always taken away.
well.. it IS mesmerizing. Like quite literally It’s eyecatching with bright colors and keeps your attention like a kid’s show. It MAKES you watch to the end!

In my opinion there is a lot of different directions you can take the story of Mesmerizer. I personally see it as a story of how oppressive the average job can be nowadays, because Miku and Teto are both wearing outfits that you might link to fast food restaurants like Sonic or Dairy Queen. I personally imagine that Miku is newer to the job industry this is not used to the oppressive environment thus becomes trapped in the job; while Teto has been in the job for a while "because her outfit is similar to one you might see being worn by hire ups" and because Teto has been in the job for longer she is resistant to how oppressive it is and is able to live a relatively normal life until the very end of the song where you can see her eyes go black.
Small correction, the hand gesture at 4:19 is not ASL. I'm not as familiar with that signal, but I believe it is used by survivors of abuse/trafficking/domestic violence to subtly alert a safe person that they need help. Teto does sign "help" at a different point in the music video. It looks like a thumbs-up gesture being raised upward on the palm of her opposite hand.
This is very early in the video, and Miku is still herself; in this same moment, while Teto signs 'help', Miku signs 'please'. The pose they take before the first chorus is in the shape of an S, so taking the star in the middle as an O, we see them working together to show an SOS

Great breakdown of this masterpiece! As an artist myself, I'm also pretty saddened by the Mesmerizer train slowing down, because I wanted to contribute to cool projects, specifically involving the idea of lost media, which you talked about in the video. Of course, I am aware that it was inevitable the Mesmerizer party would die down eventually; I'm just disappointed I didn't watch this masterpiece of a music video earlier, as I'm a little late to the party... Like you, I saw the video start at 200k and witnessed its exponential growth, until finally giving it a shot after learning about its unique presentation. I became absolutely obsessed with the visuals, lyrics, and open interpretation of the music video in general; not to mention it has revived my love for Vocaloid! However, I acknowledge that one day my love for Mesmerizer will eventually subside just as my previous obsessions, and that thought kind of pains me, as silly as that sounds... I just hope to create something involving Mesmerizer that I am proud of before that day comes. Excuse my yapping, but I felt the need to write this because your video gives me the same feelings as a retrospective, so I wanted to leave a comment expressing my feelings on this latest "phase" of mine, so as not to have any regrets like I had in the past... if that makes any sense... Anyway, I love this video and your past ones involving Vocaloid! Your production value, information, and added humor are just an absolute joy to watch! 🟥🟥🟥 ☁☀☁ ✨🎭✨ 🟩🟩🟩 PS: For my own selfish reasons. I hope you create your cover and cosplay regardless of the like goal. :)
Anything that caststation makes will turn into an animation meme trend. Mezmerizer isnt an exception especially with the secrets castsation added without the music producer knowing and they were just cool with it🔥
I think I prefer, another guy's interpretation Miku is a newbie fast food worker, and Teto is her boss. Miku shuts down, and becomes another cooperate drone, while Teto doesn't. But when Teto sees what happened to Miku, she slowly becomes another drone
I remember seeing Mesmerizer once it came out just a few hours ago on my recommendation, and it was only 11k views at the time :O At first, I wasn't digging the crazy instrumentals when I first heard it, but then it became addicting the more I keep replaying it. Now looking back at it, its quite insane to see the huge growth and a LOT of animation trends of it. I got so hooked with the song to the point where I wanted to listen to the other songs that the music producer has, and boy they have a lot of bangers 🔥🔥. I'm glad to see this video being recommended to me, and I really like the analysis on it! :D
My thoughts is that 1) extremely fast and catchy music you can listen to over and over again and won't get tired of is extremely trendy recently 2) bright fun colors 3) high quality animation made by channel Caststation who is very well known in the community 4) many hidden secrets that's fun to keep coming across Honestly, deserved it's fame! I was there when it came out and I drew fanart as quickly as I could Lol

Mesmerizer was actually the song that tipped me into my Vocaloid hyperfixtation, I am now a die hard Teto fan and I am dying over how little merch she gets
Whats personally funny to me about this song is that it showed up in my reccomend less than 2 minutes after it came out, I clicked it and saw it had a few hundred views, but I 1: didn't glance at the subscriber count 2: don't speak Japanese so I had no idea who the artist is, and 3: mistook the minutes in the time since posted for months, so I almost left a comment along the lines of "Wow! Good job this is amazing for a small channel, you'll definitely get a thousand views if you keep making stuff like this." But I didn't want to seem patronizing so I just said some part reminded me of something else I had heard somewhere. And I didn't learn it was made by a popular artist until I saw the view count when I came back a few hours later.
i've been obsessed with mesmerizer and i don't even know why. its probably just cause i like mind control in horror stories and that combined with the memetic element Did something to me.
Btw when miku gets hypnotized her neck gets smaller and bigger on and on. and Teto also gets hypnotized.teto slowly bounces when she sees miku slowly becomes hypnotized and her head moves more than usual! If u noticed when trouble was more the confetti was also more and when confetti almost filled the camera Miku’s head turned almost all the way and I was concerned… (she almost broke her neck 😭🥲🤚)
One thing both Mesmerizer and Rabbit Hole share It's use in kids content, and how such completely altered how VOCALOID is to those still immature viewers Imagine showing "Melt" to a VOCALOID fan since 2023 and they'll call Miku "That one blue girl from Mesmerizer"
The "lost media" stuff are fake tho. But i admit i find it nostalgic for some reason- probably its anemoia, only the 10 seconds version tho, because only this one feels more real, in the rest, you can notice they have different styles...
I'm kinda tired of seeing it everywhere, since I'm not really into this song. But if it means that Teto will get even more popular, I'm okay with it. Also, Akita Neru has been slowly replaced by Zundamon in many popular songs
Let me explain miku from the start is Normal teto is asking for help the quiz the shapes it makes no sense she does the hand sign Morse code blinking teto Even gets Hypnotized at the end
It's quite funny to me, I don't really like the song, especially the high chorus, so when I was one of the first to see it when it was released, I didn't think it would get this popular as it is now. I thought it would be quickly forgotton, after reaching 30k views. The illustrator has done a great job and contributed a lot to the popularity of the song (mainly because of his reputation for making the controverse Rabbit Hole animation).
mesmerizer the impaler: "vocloid intruder, thou miku it semeth , mother wouldst thou truely lordship sanction in one so bereft of light, yet my purpose standeth unchanged, those stripped of the grace of gold shall all meet death in the embrace of mesmerizers flame."
Mesmerizer has all the hyperfixation trappings. Very distinct characters (these versions in particular for their outfits), character centric narrative, distinct artstyle, subversion of whimsy, room for interpretation, it's the full nine yards of making people like us go crazy.
Good vid! I had a bit of a vocaloid phase over a decade ago, then fell out of touch. But the 2020s has had so many viral and catchy songs that I find myself wanting to get back into it. Plus all the VTuber covers spreading it even further lol
yes I actually found out teto existed from mesmurizer and then I found her other songs and now miku is my favorite vocaloid and teto is my favorite utauloid
After thorough analysis, the legendary Koka Pepsi, maker of the ironically poetic 10 hour version, has noticed he is not in this video. Suwa-chan, we are getting a divorce.
I am gonna sing Mesmerizer as a duet with one of my friends at the last choir concert of the year at my school, and everyone will love it because it's mesmerizer.
-it intentionally references colorful kid's brainrot content while having a "dark twist" -it's got "secrets" that are obvious enough for most viewers to catch, but makes you wanna watch a bunch of "mesmerizer explained" videos -the call and response format -the super cute oldschool diner uniforms it's like it was perfectly made to capture the gen z "five nights at the amazing digital garten of hazbin night funkin" audience
I heard a second when it was published and never again because i didn't feel like it and ofc it had to be the only song with a decent lore since the dawn of time, better later than never i guess, good vid.

Anything that caststation makes will turn into an animation meme trend. Mezmerizer isnt an exception especially with the secrets castsation added without the music producer knowing and they were just cool with it🔥

I think I prefer, another guy's interpretation
Miku is a newbie fast food worker, and Teto is her boss. Miku shuts down, and becomes another cooperate drone, while Teto doesn't. But when Teto sees what happened to Miku, she slowly becomes another drone
I remember seeing Mesmerizer once it came out just a few hours ago on my recommendation, and it was only 11k views at the time :O
At first, I wasn't digging the crazy instrumentals when I first heard it, but then it became addicting the more I keep replaying it. :D
11:00 THAT'S OOMFS
My thoughts is that
1) extremely fast and catchy music you can listen to over and over again and won't get tired of is extremely trendy recently
2) bright fun colors
3) high quality animation made by channel Caststation who is very well known in the community
4) many hidden secrets that's fun to keep coming across
Honestly, deserved it's fame! I was there when it came out and I drew fanart as quickly as I could Lol
Imagine being a mildly successful vocaloid producer on RUclips, deciding to collab with Channel and then BOOM your song goes unimaginably viral

Channel is the ultimate vocaloid trend creator 😭
i've been obsessed with mesmerizer and i don't even know why. its probably just cause i like mind control in horror stories and that combined with the memetic element Did something to me.
@@gardenagnostic You could say that you got mesmerized.

One thing both Mesmerizer and Rabbit Hole share
It's use in kids content, and how such completely altered how VOCALOID is to those still immature viewers
Imagine showing "Melt" to a VOCALOID fan since 2023 and they'll call Miku "That one blue girl from Mesmerizer"
Rule 34.1: If any opposite pairs exist, there is a Mesmerizer version of it.
Rule 34.2: If any trilogy exists, there is a Triple Baka version of it.

So mesmerizing... no way! You're tricking me through my own mind! Both my body and mind are coaxed into a shutdown...
Can't believe someone only know teto from "mesmerizer" and not "triple Baka"
Honestly I'm glad it got popular. It's FIREEEE! The song, the animation, the little Easter eggs in the song and animation, ITS ALL SO GOOD!
The "lost media" stuff are fake tho. But i admit i find it nostalgic for some reason- probably its anemoia, only the 10 seconds version tho, because only this one feels more real, in the rest, you can notice they have different styles...
Technically, it's not lost media in the regular sense, but maybe they're implying that Neru tried to destroy those versions to hide her involvement
Hatsune Miku,Kasane Teto, banger song, excellent animation, channel cast station's animation.
No wonder it's everywhere.
I'm kinda tired of seeing it everywhere, since I'm not really into this song. But if it means that Teto will get even more popular, I'm okay with it. Also, Akita Neru has been slowly replaced by Zundamon in many popular songs
Let me explain miku from the start is Normal teto is asking for help the quiz the shapes it makes no sense she does the hand sign Morse code blinking

Very distinct characters (these versions in particular for their outfits), character centric narrative, distinct artstyle, subversion of whimsy, room for interpretation, it's the full nine yards of making people like us go crazy.

mesmerizer is quite literally mesmerizing. they really weren't lying with that song name
I love teto so much
-it intentionally references colorful kid's brainrot content while having a "dark twist"
-it's got "secrets" that are obvious enough for most viewers to catch, but makes you wanna watch a bunch of "mesmerizer explained" videos
-the call and response format
-the super cute oldschool diner uniforms
it's like it was perfectly made to capture the gen z "five nights at the amazing digital garten of hazbin night funkin" audience
they really hypnotized a whole community, huh
