The Cold Tape I used on the edge of fur to keep it from stretching when cutting and sewing is available at Samuel Bauer Furrier Supply
I sew using a Fur Machine Bonis A machine and used a 14 needle and 80 Weight thread.
I use Samuel Bauer Unlimited for furrier sewing supplies, google and call them.

Can we do this project with a standard Singer machine? No idea where to get a fur machine!

if you use a regular sewing machine, to sew the fur to the backing I would use a longer length stitch and regular thread, I'd try on a scrap piece of fur and fabric first. Also you'd need to add a seam allowance to the fur, but yes It should work as the seams are straight . If the thread pulls thru or tears the leather of the fur. you could use a piece of paper to sew through ,, in this order paper, fur, fabric. .Good Luck
