It was a joke though. She was supposed to be a little girl and the voice was too deep.
The faces and tones she used made it a joke. But dang when she cut loose , it was great. I watched this skit 10 times just to hear her sing.

@emilybarker3240 Streeter Seidell tweeted that he and Mikey wrote this with Chloe. A lot of the writer's will post on social media about the sketches they've written. Not all the time, but often enough.

To sing those low notes is really hard, especially if you are nervous. Chloe didn’t seem nervous at all. This was an amazing performance. SNL are building a really talented cohort of performers at the moment. Long may it continue.
That 'Last week I bit a girl down to the bone' is amazing. The note at 'bone' is perfect.

That first note slayed me. Like most of the comments here, I think she has a great voice but she also has that comedic ability to make it sound and look ridiculous at the same time. I think part of it is the faces she pulls through out the sketch.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm debating whether the singing is actually that ridiculous though.. I think it's more the context: when a character in a play or musical does this sort of singing soliloquy (there's probably an actual term for this), you never see all of these vocal flourishes (I'm sure there's an actual term for that too).
Like, if you changed the words but had the same exact tune/vocal effects, I feel like this could easily be a professional pop song. (Though maybe a bit subdued/slow for one.)
Her weird mouth shape when she sings the word "adopted" made me laugh more than anything else in this sketch (and that's SAYING something).
The humour comes in the juxtaposition. Going from a high pitched innocent voice to leading with such low notes comes out of nowhere. Once you hear her full range it becomes impressive on top of unexpected.

She reminds me of Cecily--and I hope we see much much more of her!!! She killed this!!

This is one of my most rewatched SNL sketches. This is a star right here and her being dropped is a crime.
I genuinely watch this and the Mama Cass sketch at least once a month. I feel bad for her but more bad for us that we are going to miss out on some really great sketches from her. Hope she goes on to even greater things!

She was trying so hard not to sound good. Sis has got a great voice 😂the song was hilarious reminds me of a classic SNL sketch.
This sketch went to a whole other level when Chloe started singing. You know the "this character is so crazy, let's have everyone react to how crazy she is," script to a tee, but she adds so much life to the material and makes it feel fresh. There's none of the usual where oh someone is making a wacky face, laugh here. A starmaking performance. Then everything gets better and better - Timothee's reactions to her, Mikey as her creepy boyfriend, and the ending.

I can't believe she wasn't asked back to SNL this season. It had to be something personal between her and someone behind the scenes. She's clearly funny and the best singer SNL's cast has ever had. Good luck to her.

Between this, Get That Boy Back, the Mama Cass sketch, and so many more moments throughout the season, Chloe was one of the most exciting cast members to watch in S49. Even aside from her great singing, she was a genuinely hilarious sketch actress, and SNL is making a huge mistake not bringing her back. I think she's gonna go down as one of the best one-season wonders of 21st century SNL, right up there w/ Tim Robinson. Can't wait to see what she does next!

this is one of snl’s best sketches in FOREVER
I’m pretty proud of Chloe Troast here! She’s a brand new cast member this year and is already starring in a sketch! Plus, what a voice (which I somehow mean both unironically AND ironically at the same time).
She was in the airplane sketch two weeks ago too, which was arguably the only good one from that week as well.
i like that the cast clapped for her at the end! nice support for a breakout performance.
When it was live, you could see Molly give her a big, well deserved, hug right at the end. This was a 10/10 sketch.

Nah..she can sing, but she’s not a star…that’s the whole point of this class of SNL. People who fall just short of true star power and are essentially dependent on NBC for any sense of it.

If Chloe ever gives an interview on this skit I'm curious to know why she chose to sing the song like a soul singer and the mannerisms she chose for the skit. I think the audience at first thought she was just comedically belting but at about 1:27 when she sang that note, they realized she really had range. One of the funniest skits of the show. Watched it over and over.
I had to watch this video several times to realize that she's actually singing. The fact that she can sing that well while also playing to the camera is quite impressive.
