  • A couple of people have asked me in the comments to do a video on steaming oat milk using the Sage Bambino Plus, which prompted me to start a series on trying different #vegan milk alternatives using the Sage Bambino Plus.
    In this video, I'm trying various different oat milks, both with auto steaming and manual steaming.
    I'm not used to steaming oat milk, so I'm probably not doing it much justice, sorry oat milk! ;-).

    By the way...If you're in the UK, and you're thinking of buying a Sage machine (any Sage machine, not only their coffee machines), join my mailing list at coffeeblog.co.uk and then drop me an email to see if I have a current discount code to share. I don't currently get Breville discounts, sorry, but I do sometimes have Sage Appliances UK discount codes to share.
    Ta

      As far as taste goes I think cashew milk is closest to cows milk but it's difficult to texture

      @@Coffee_Kev interested to see how you get on with soy - I find it always splits after been sat in the drink for a couple of minutes. Great channel, btw - stumbled upon you when looking for tips for my new Bambino Plus. :-)

    Thanks for this really useful! I wonder have you tried using any lactose free milk like the Arla Laco-free and what this is like?
    I have found your channel really useful. I got a Bambino plus last week and am having so much fun playing with it.

      Thanks Jack :-). I've not tried lactose free actually, but I will do.

    I’m so glad I came across your channel!! I’ve had my Bambino Plus for 6 months now, using Elmhurst Barista Oatmilk and started noticing that this week the auto froth just keeps going and going, even with the jug on the sensor, i have to manually stop it. The foam gets very voluminous with large bubbles. Any ideas to troubleshoot?

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  3 года назад

      Thanks Amelia :-). Just one question, is the sensor dry? Try giving it a wipe to ensure its dry before steaming, also dry the bottom of the jug. If this doesnt help, if the jug is definitely in contact with the sensor, I'd get in touch with Sage/Breville support. Cheers 👍

    Nice comparison. Thanks Kev! Very useful. I recently bought the Sage bambino plus (inspired by your channel) and am playing with milk and various alternatives. Great that you tested the automatic steaming (more objective) as well as the manual method. I only tried a non-barista Alpro (hard to get any froth and I did not like the taste as much) and the Oatly barista which was quite good. After watching this I will try the Minor figures. We mainly use full fat non-homogenised milk directly from the farmer which tastes great and (after some shaking of the milk) makes great silky froth. But we wanted to cut back on meat and dairy and your series is a good time saver for us in finding alternatives. On another note, what do you think about the non-recyclable coffee bags? Any way the industry can cut down on it? What are the alternatives?

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Thomas :-) . Re the coffee bags, it's quite a difficult one. There are some paper bags that don't have a degassing valve, but the problem with these is that they can turn into little balloons during transit and potentially burst. Then there are some "recyclable" bags with degassing valves, but it depends on your area as to whether they'll be recycled via your usual recycling. LDPE (low density polyethylene) for example, there are coffee bags made from this that show as recyclable, but it depends on your local authority whether or not they actually are. Even some packaging that are sold as compostable, are only compostable at industrial composting facilities, so it's all a bit of a mine field! Cheers.

      ukcoffeeblog thanks for the informative reply. Oh, I see. In our area (East riding of Yorkshire) they don’t recycle mixed material. I thought it was the same elsewhere in the UK. I think most coffee lovers would like to use recyclable bags. I am now getting my beans from a local roaster and ask him to refill my containers. I like your channel. Glad you keep showing episodes about the bambino plus.

    Did you use the auto steaming or do it manually?

    Check out Cashew milk. Its the only non-dairy milk I will use when steaming. No nutty after-taste :-)

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  3 года назад

      Cheers, I will do. Love cashews - even more since discovering they're not actually nuts, but seeds of the cashew apple - meaning they share something with our beloved coffee beans (which aren't beans at all, but seeds of the coffee cherry).

    What temperature is ideal for heating oat milk on a Sage Barista Touch?

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  3 года назад

      Hi Kathleen. I'd say around 55-65C depending on personal preference. I don't think heat will impact on taste as long as you don't go beyond 65. Cheers.
