  • The weekend had quickly come around again and I headed to the Old Quarter to visit an escape room with friends. But only after I tried some more recommended local food and another coffee shop.
The beers were flowing early and the day soon became night as we all headed to Tay Ho's finest drinking establishment, The Snug, for some live music.

Vietnam is a major textiles hub so that’s probably where the pollution is coming from

I enjoyed watching that much more than the Sean Bean film with the same title.
It was better than the dream I had last night about being chased through an upholstery showroom by Douglas Bader's amputated legs and kicked in the arse by one of them as a mime looked on and silently laughed. Far more pleasant than the fear I have of my feet being touched by the cold wooden hand of a ventriloquist's dummy with chipped paint on its little fingers.

The Logical Song is one of my favourite songs of all time. I used to think of it as a guilty pleasure. Now I realise that there is only pleasure in music. 'Supertramp' is a shit name for a band though.
As for escape rooms, I despise them. I did one once and it made me feel ill.
You'll probably think the following is just more of my absurd nonsense but it's true. When my son was 7, he started talking about something called 'The Toadstool Republic'. He' was diagnosed with high functioning autism shortly before that. What used to be called Asperger's Syndrome before the terminology changed. I always knew he was different.
We used to sit and draw together and tell stories, mostly driven by his imagination. He has always been into maps. When he started to talk about The Toadstool Republic I said we should design a map and and a flag for it and he said "no daddy, it isn't a country, it's a cult". My son became a cult leader at the age of 7, I'm so proud!
It only had two rules. No jokes and no American phrases. Rufus loves humour but he's always seen traditional jokes as a trick. As for American language taking over our British way of communicating, I completely agree.
I was briefly expelled from The Toadstool Republic for saying that I was going to 'take out the trash' instead of 'put t'rubbish in t'bin" and I had to undergo a ritual in order to be reinstated as second in command by my own child.
Shortly thereafter, Rufus decided to disband that particular cult and create a new one called 'The Yorkshire Republic'. His ideas involved taking over some unclaimed land in the Middle East and legalising slavery. I'm not sure that I have succesfully instilled my own social values in the boy. Kid's a genius and I hope he won't be the next Elon Musk, or, fingers crossed, the next Hitler.
I'd still love him even if he was.
There are some hopeful signs. He won't let us shop at Lidl because he says they do business with Israel and support the oppression of Palestinians and he is big on trans rights. I have to remind him that I was woke in the mid 80s before it became a thing or a hipster pose.
