Question, does the left gate have two power struts or just uses one power strut on the right side?

Great video! Did you have to do any coding? I have read you have to program the upper and lower limits of the lift motor when replacing it.

Is the strut on the left-hand side the same? I have an indy telling me the left-hand strut is $600!?!?! + an hour labor to install

Yes, I paid 565 for one strut.

My tailgate won't even open. One side is completely jammed. Any idea what i can do

The reason the original lift motor support broke in half was due to seizing. (Jammed). The lift motors go bad when vehicle is about 100,000 miles. You may have to force it open regarding tailgate by hand. If you are going to keep bmw x5 for a long time. I suggest to buy lift motor support from FCP euro. It’s lifetime warranty. It’s. About 585.00 for each one.

Yes my car is just over 100,000 and it's a 5 series GT. I can force it open to be able to see the jammed strut. Was thinking might be able to take it off while holding the tailgate in that position

@@ziafortube yes. Make sure to use something keep tailgate in the open position while you remove lift motor support. Be careful and make sure to secure the tailgate in the open position. The tailgate is very heavy.

Mine is also jammed. I can just barely get it open a few inches. I’m hoping I can pop the tailgate side off so I don’t have to break it. FCP euro it is.

When the lift unit was out, did it off set the tailgate and make it very hard to secure in the close position???

Good question. In my case, it did not affect the offset the tailgate. However, there are two rubber stops or grommet where the tailgate mates onto the sides near taillights that can go out of adjustment due to wear or movement. This can definitely cause issues in the closing position. It’s rare that the rubber stops go out of adjustment.
