Sad fact:
This restaurant survived for 3 years after Gordon’s visit, but it closed when their second location (which they opened to ride the publicity of appearing on the show) closed due to an electrical fire, and they couldn’t financially recover. Al passed away in 2018 from his health issues. Heartbreaking when you see the potential for the place by the end of the episode.
Damn that’s tough. Sad truth is that’s the majority of these restaurants on the show. If they last for a couple more years after the episode that’s considered a rare success. I think there’s only one that’s still open to this day.
@@srums7111 21 are open

@@srums7111 I can imagine the places from the UK Series didn't fare well between the '08 Recession and the economic stagnation the UK has suffered from since. The first 13 minutes were comedy gold. That waitress lady had some funny ass comments. When she told the other girl "Girl they done fucked up all of this man's food." to the other waitress. I lost it. 🤣

I think the wings are a good example of how Gordon actually does go into the tasting optimistic. Immediately he said they smelled delicious, and despite the dryness clarified that the sauce on them was good. He doesn't just want to tear apart all the food, he only looks for and is honest about the issues.
He went to a soul food restaurant in the UK and loved everything.
The mark of a true restaurateur and critic. He is honest but also tries to highlight anything he finds good about the food
I noticed that also - he also then goes on to specifically incorporate the bottles of sauce(es) at each table into the redesign. Then as if that was not enough we all get to see someone get called a doughnut. Brilliant stuff, love this show.
Also his speech about the fresh wings was just so heartfelt.
Yeah, in the last episode I watched prior to this, he had a sandwich layered with shrimp and crab salad and complemented the crab but the shrimp had a gross after taste. Like it had absorbed all the expired food from the fridge. He even complemented the desserts from Amy's Baking Company. The place with the crazy ass owners that he refused to help lol.
Gordon telling you to keep your eyes closed and not open them while he puts a surprise spoonful of food in your mouth feels like a line out of a wattpad story

Gordon is a world class chef. When he doesn’t like something IT ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING IS WRONG.
Well, most of the restaurants in this programme have something wrong about the food so it's no surprise he doesn't like it, especially when he does the initial tasting at the beginning of each episode.
Well, Kitchens that work, don´t need a Gordon Ramsey to tell them how it should be.

No kitchen or restaurant makeover and everyone seemed rather easy to adapt to new rules.
There always seems to be 6 main problems:
Bad chefs
Poor hygiene
Freezing/microwaving food
Poor management
Bad decor
Dated/complicated menu
They only really had two problems here - bad management, and reheating frozen crap, but the latter was easily resolved as they were cooking fresh food - they just needed to learn to serve it on the day.
Really, the only problem with Michons was Michon. She had no idea how to run a restaurant and didn't care to learn. And that's likely more her parents fault for raising her to be so spoiled and lazy.
