Great Review, just bought RZ50 and calibrated it with dirac live, speakers sound great. I have applied harman 10 curve too but it still lacked bass. After checking it did drop "subwoofer level" to -13 db, had to adjust in order to get better bass. Did you have to adjust that? Or speakers/sub levels were set correctly by dirac.

Nice video! Thanks for sharing. I was hoping you were going to show how you wired your amplifier to achieve 7.1.4 configuration. Which channels did you power with your external amp? I have heard that the surround backs are the unpowered channels? Is that true?
The TX-RX50 has all speaker terminals populated except “zone 2” terminals. The “surround back” terminals are used for height 2. For rca pre-out I have “surround back” from rz50 going to the external amplifier. These power the surround backs. I chose those since most content is 5.1 and those channels won’t always be in use. Great job on the video. Hope to have my ordered RZ50 in the next few weeks. Once you ran Dirac it looks like you instantly changed crossover setting before you actually listened to the results. There’s two hdmi output. You can do either same output to both which is what I do, or you can do independent output where output 1 let’s say display hdmi 1 and output 2 displays hdmi 2, etc.
@@cs.studios thank you. My other question that have been bugging me, its written 8K sub, 4K zone 2. what does that mean? when or at what circumstances will the signal drop to 4K?
It will do 8K to both outputs as long as you are outputting the same source. If you have two different sources going to two different outputs then it will drop to 4K
Can you power your main speaker with an external amp and the rest of the speaker with the receiver, including 4 Atmos? The reason I ask is because with my Nad T758 V3 I need an exterior amp for the Atmos speaker. You can't power them internally.
I would assume so. Im powering my surround back with external amp and all other channels with onkyo tx-rz50. There are preout for all 9 channels on rz50
Thanks so much for the info. I just got in ceiling speakers installed with the RZ-50. I am trying to setup a 7.1.4 atmos but I don't understand where to connect the 2nd height speakers. I only see connections for 1 pair of heights. I am using an ext 3 channel amp for the front 3. There is no sound coming out of the rear heights even though I connected them to the zone connections since its the only one left. I have surround and surround backs like you. Can you help me this? Thanks
I have my height 2 connected to “surround back” on the receiver. Then my surround back rca is going to my onkyo power amp. You can see my 7.1.4 video it should be the one before this onkyo receiver video. I recommend trying to connect everything to the receiver besides surround back like me and see if everything works first. Then from there you can try switching, maybe there’s a setting somewhere needing to be changed
@@cs.studios I appreciate you reaching out. After doing some digging, I discovered that with onkyo avrs and pioneer, they don't supply a 2nd height channel connection forcing you to give up a 7.1.4 and settle for a 5.1.4. I understand that you can plug an inexpensive 2 channel amp to the surr back preouts, which is what I had to do. The only bad thing is I already bought an ext amp, an Emotiva XPA 3 channel amp which cost as much as the RZ=50 to run my 3 front channels. I was following the advice of some expert reviewers, and they were right. That's exactly where you want to put the best quality amplification towards. Had I known this, I would have bought a 5 channel ext amp instead of a 3 channel. I was fooled because nowhere on any reviews did I here about this missing feature. All I heard was that to achieve a full 7.1.4 atmos with a 9.2 avr, you need an ext amp to make up the 2 missing channels. These guys I looked up, Plugged the ext amp to the front stage, leaving the avr to handle the light loaded channels. In conclusion, I had to buy a second ext less expensive amp for the surr backs. So I have 2 ext amps and 1 avr. Somewhere on those reviews, someone could have said something about this.
What speakers are you running? I’m running klipsch reference which aren’t high end by any means so for me the rz50 powers them perfectly. Were you finding you needed more power for the fronts? I have an SVS SB13-Ultra sub so for me the fronts don’t need to do much work in the lower frequencies.
@@cs.studios I am running emotiva airmotiv T2+ and C2+ that are 4 ohms. As for me, My 2nd ext amp which is emotiva basx A2m will arrive tomorrow. I am doing this once so I don't just want to put a bandaide. I have 2 rsl speedwooders mk 2. 4 rsl in ceiling speakers. For the surrounds, I left what I had which were def tech pro moniter 1000s for surr and surr backs. Rz-5-, Emotiva XPA 3 channel amp, and the 2nd amp emotiva basx A2m. I paid $325 for this one. I would have paid close to the same thing, if I got an Xpa 5 channel but it would have been much better quality and all in the same unit. Now I have to have yet another component to make room for.
I pre-ordered July 1st and made it into the 2nd shipment. Both Onkyo’s website and Amazon had them at least twice in stock since my pre-order. I recommend checking those two sites every now and then and you may get lucky. RZ70/90 will probably have same issue with several months of no stock.
Look into the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX505. Pioneer and Onkyo share the same parent company. A glance at the back of both the RZ-50 and LX505 will show their similarities are more than skin deep. They do differ on some features, but worth looking into, as the RZ-50 will be scarce for quite some time, the LX505 is readily available now.
This is another option. Although personally I prefer the looks of the Onkyo. They are hard to find but if you search amazon and onkyo website you’ll see them in stock every now and then. They just sell out is all. There were two other websites they were available a few weeks ago. I’d do a google shopping search for the receiver to find it when they are available
Nice Video, however The results of Dirac and Audyssey have different targets, apparantly with Dirac you can choose for a "wide sweetspot" which is a contradiction in and by itself, while Audyssey just goes for a tight sweetspot. It is recommended to not move the mic more than 2feet from the MLP, no matter how many measurements you take. Going by that same logic, you may get a much better result with Dirac if you follow the same logic, to try and cover a whole couch is IMHO already pushing it.
@@shaolin95 no matter what system you prefer, you need to 1st place speakers optimally, 2 have a half decent room) and 3 know what you are doing. The more things are off , the more versatile Dirac is, no doubt, that is, again, if you know what you're doing, which excludes 90% of the commenters here from being able to Dirac a system to its fullest potential. I had a good sounding system go to an excellent sounding one by just Audysseying it. But my room is a perfect rectangle with no weird angles and all speakers are placed inch perfect. That alone will do more than any calibration can. The calibration is just the Cherry on top. I am no-ones fanboy.
SR6015 looks like my old X4700H in terms of HDMI. Only one true HDMI 2.1 port. Rest are 2.0. On Onkyo TX-RX50 there’s 3 true HDMI 2.1 inputs so I’d take RZ50
Is this a 9.2 surround sound, i.e. has 2 subwoofers running from it? Is that possible with this one? As I see on some websites it states it 9.2... I'm a bit confused?
@@cs.studios Great thanks for confirming and if I use Dirac Live upgrade, it should seed 2 separate subwoofers right? So if I had a 5.2 system, Dirac would see 5 speakers, and 2 separate subwoofers? In all 7 separate speakers in Dirac? Just making sure about this before I purchase, you've been really helpful 🙂
I couldn’t find anything in this receiver equivalent to audessy dynamic volume. I believe some of the THX listening modes do have some sort of volume equalization.

@@cs.studios klipsch speakers are extremely sensitive and don’t need much juice to run at all if you didn’t have 11 speakers you could get by with a 6100 and they would run fine i have svs and rythmik
I did the same. I wanted speaker headroom so i went for an amp to power my klipsch LCR. But my surrounds arent klipsch. Sides are 3-way infinity towers and heights are 4 svs prime elevations. So i went ahead and did the external amp, and it definately makes a difference. Plus its good for longevity of your receiver, so i viewed the extra power/upgrade as an investment to my system's performance and longevity. Granted I dont blast my system, i probably use 10% of rated power. But the system performs much better and equipment runs less hot.
I have listened to these latest models from Onkyo and I have got the very first network generation the TX and r609 and 579 and I have to say they both incorporate Odyssey which absolutely destroys any new version of room correction at all that is why Denon and Moran's use it and more than likely outsell Onkyo Excellent video And for the last 10 years I have never used a subwoofer I have floor standing front speakers but not very expensive have you tried putting the crossover frequency to the lower number on the front speakers or even bypass or even full band that will make sure that your fronts are getting the full power excellent video 🤟🤟
Thanks for the video! But I think you should make your room better before calibrating with Dirac. Like move the system out from the side wall. And move surround speakers down. Why do you have all the surround and atmos up at the ceiling in the back? Move the center channel out because the way you have it setup will reflect sound badly on the tv bench. Also that center does not go down to 80hz so why would you set it to 80hz? Sorry but changing this would result in so much better sound. You can also invest in some acoustic treatments that will make the sound even better :)

I used a +10db harman curve to improve the dirac live bass
Onkeyo for life
@@cs.studios how much did it improve the bass? As good as the Denon?
Onkyo is a very sucessful company with great products !
But why are this receivers so rare ? Why don't they push out millions of parts ??
I cannot buy it anywhere in Germany...
I think it has to do more with chip shortage. Also EU got the receiver much later too
but I wonder if this wonderful device plays an USB flash drive with video ...?
Or just for audio?
But what about modern devices...? Which one has this option...? especially stream .MKV formats...
It can only play audio files from usb not video files

Does the 3 HDMI outputs acts as a matrix, splitter and switcher? or one can only view one output at a time?
@@josefernandez2722
You’re overthinking it, you only need an amp to drive the extra channels.
The AVR could handle all the rest.
Hi... Does it have better sound then the 4700 denon?
In my opinion, yes
I can't find the RZ50 anywhere. The RZ70 will be out before the RZ50 is available..
Where were you able to find it? Shows sold out everywhere.
I preordered at AVScience July 1st. I barely received it like 3 weeks ago. Try checking onkyo and amazon they come and go
Price now?
$1230-1299 these days
Nice Video, however The results of Dirac and Audyssey have different targets, apparantly with Dirac you can choose for a "wide sweetspot" which is a contradiction in and by itself, while Audyssey just goes for a tight sweetspot. It is recommended to not move the mic more than 2feet from the MLP, no matter how many measurements you take. Going by that same logic, you may get a much better result with Dirac if you follow the same logic, to try and cover a whole couch is IMHO already pushing it.
I tried both and there doesn’t seem to be a huge difference. What made things better was applying a +10db harman curve in dirac. Now it sounds better
Dirac is far superior to xt32 and I was a huge Denon and Audyssey fanboy. Not any more
@@shaolin95 no matter what system you prefer, you need to 1st place speakers optimally, 2 have a half decent room) and 3 know what you are doing.
Sir marantz sr6015 vs onkyo rz 50 which is best
SR6015 looks like my old X4700H in terms of HDMI. Only one true HDMI 2.1 port. Rest are 2.0. On Onkyo TX-RX50 there’s 3 true HDMI 2.1 inputs so I’d take RZ50
I didn't see a subwoofer output in the back panel!
There’s a sub out. There’s 2 but they are not independent
how do you connect ur PC to the receiver??
Hdmi cable lol
Dirac vs audussey which one is best
I prefer Dirac
oh snap! i am replacing my 838!!!
Is this a 9.2 surround sound, i.e. has 2 subwoofers running from it? Is that possible with this one? As I see on some websites it states it 9.2... I'm a bit confused?
Yes two sub outputs in the back
@@cs.studios Great thanks for confirming and if I use Dirac Live upgrade, it should seed 2 separate subwoofers right? So if I had a 5.2 system, Dirac would see 5 speakers, and 2 separate subwoofers? In all 7 separate speakers in Dirac? Just making sure about this before I purchase, you've been really helpful 🙂
Both subwoofers will seen as one. So they won’t be independently calibrated. You’d need another device that can split them
Does it have a similar dynamic volume feature found in Denon? I dont want the sound to suddenly go up depending on the scene.
I couldn’t find anything in this receiver equivalent to audessy dynamic volume. I believe some of the THX listening modes do have some sort of volume equalization.
@@cs.studios thanks!
Wait, your’s has 11 speaker terminals, but on Amazon and other places the RZ50 only shows 9 ????
It's 9.2 but u have to add a 2 channel external amp for 11.2 surround.
@@AnticRecovery still doesn’t answer why yours has 11 but the photos on many RZ50 ads show only 9 (they list the ability to process 11.2, but the photos are different than yours, as yours has 2 more sets of speaker terminals)
@@AnticRecovery I have the pioneer elite vsx-lx505 (almost the same receiver, just $100 more) but can’t change the crossover frequencies individually…. It’s a global crossover for all speakers set to “small”. RZ50 allows independent crossovers…that’s the only difference I know of, aside from the extra $100 for the pioneer… would you consider the rz50 an upgrade even though it is cheaper?
You can only use 9 terminals for main output. The last two are for zone 3. So this is why I am running a M-5010 amplifier for last 2 channels
I personally like Onkyo over Pioneer despite them being almost the same.
You must be messing something up because diraxc is far better than xt32 for movies and I was a huge Denon fanboy with xt32
There was an update for dirac live a few days after I published the video. As of 12/2022 it sounds better in every single genre including movies/gaming over the denon
You Can drive 7 Channel on reference levels?
I probably can do -9db before it gets too uncomfortable. I sit 9 ft away from the speakers lol. But the receiver does a good job powering even at reference levels
@@cs.studios Do you feel any signs of strain?
No everything is smooth. I’m also using dirac live calibration which makes thing better and more balanced

Hello great review compared Dirac to accu be honest I think the sound on the accu was way better the Dirac. Accu sound is great with the bass it gave it a sound that demon 3700 didn’t do
I tried the +6 harman curve and I can say accueq is definitely best for music. The bass is much better from my sub and fronts. Dirac is very good for movies but I may try the full multipoint calibration from accueq and see how it sounds

Yup 😏 so nice to see my gf watching my videos 😍 not even my wife watches them 🥺
Seems a bit much for the speakers set you have but I guess if you want the best of the best lol
Could you explain how my receiver is too much for my speakers? The receiver actually needed an amplifier as well to be able to power all 11 speakers. Also curious what you’re running, always nice to see what other people use. Can’t tell from the thumbnail. 👀
Can't buy it in Europe yet
Yeah unfortunately. Hopefully supply improves this year
You are very handsome and look like be friendly.
Thank you~~^^
I have listened to these latest models from Onkyo and I have got the very first network generation the TX and r609 and 579 and I have to say they both incorporate Odyssey which absolutely destroys any new version of room correction at all that is why Denon and Moran's use it and more than likely outsell Onkyo
Excellent video
And for the last 10 years I have never used a subwoofer I have floor standing front speakers but not very expensive have you tried putting the crossover frequency to the lower number on the front speakers or even bypass or even full band that will make sure that your fronts are getting the full power excellent video
🤟🤟
Thanks for the video! But I think you should make your room better before calibrating with Dirac. Like move the system out from the side wall. And move surround speakers down. Why do you have all the surround and atmos up at the ceiling in the back? Move the center channel out because the way you have it setup will reflect sound badly on the tv bench. Also that center does not go down to 80hz so why would you set it to 80hz? Sorry but changing this would result in so much better sound. You can also invest in some acoustic treatments that will make the sound even better :)
When I move to a new place ima go crazy and build a dedicated theater room hopefully. For now gotta have all these compromises
