    Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Been buying from Kingsley North since 1978. My rockhounding adventure was as wonderful as it was because of business's like this and Ebersole's in Kansas (now closed). Kingsley North is the kind business that ROCK dreams are made of. This is how I rockhunt from my bedside nowadays!!!😊 Thanks Rob for taking me there in person!

      I think the lapidary hobby seems more popular in the west than it is here. I'm not sure why you wouldn't have people selling at good prices there though. From what I've read, it's easier to find used lapidary equipment in the west.

    Hi Rob, I really enjoyed this video. I'm way behind on your videos because this is my busy season and haven't had much time to watch. Rain day today so I thought I would catch up. I had to watch this one first because I usually have orders coming from Kingsley on a regular basis, mostly rough rock and blades lately. Some time I'd like to share some pictures of my shop I built in my basement with you. Quite similar to yours but obviously no video equipment involved.
    Something I did do that I don't know if you have an option to do or not is I set up my cab machine to drain into a bucket under the bench. In the bucket I have a pump that is plumbed to empty the bucket out through the bond into a drywell I built in my landscaping. I just got tired of carrying the waste water outside. I also sold my 10" HP Slab saw and bought the HP 14" so I could have a little more capacity on bigger rough. That is in my back work shop though.

    • @MichiganRocks
      @MichiganRocks  Год назад

      That sounds like a great setup, Scott. If you look on my about page, you can find my email. I'd love to see pictures. I like seeing how other people set up their shops.
      I'm not really set up to pump anything outside, but that sure does sound better than carrying buckets all the time. I would like to build another cabinet for my cab machine to be next to my sink. Then I could hook up directly to the sink and eliminate the pump and a bucket. Where it is now, there's a cabinet right next to the counter, so the drain hoses have to be bent to go to the front of the cabinet which isn't ideal. I'd love to be able to run them straight out the back with a bucket underneath. Maybe next winter I'll take on that project.

      I controlled myself pretty well. I think I bought four different kinds of rocks there. I have so many rocks from my self collected rocks on the trip plus the Rock Shed and Kingsley North. I haven't really done much with any of them yet, because I'm still trying to get all the video edited. I'm concentrating on cutting and cleaning things to show in my videos. Today I'm cutting rocks from Montana and also soaking some of the Montana rocks in acid.

    ps. I did google that name norwegian and why this town in Michigan have got the name norway. First, in 1875 norwegian settlers named this norwegian hall, in 1879 the town was named norway. A LOT places and things in USA have the name norway and other norwegian names. I did read somewhere in some magazine or news that Norway had been double in numbers of inhabitants if so many did`nt immigrate to USA. We are around 5,5 millions. But, at the same time to day, I was google Denmark, always wondered about how many live in small Denmark, a peninsula, they are actually as Norway in numbers, more then 5,5 millions, unbeliveable, must be very crowded there. Have a nice day.

      Thanks for researching that. That's kind of what I guessed. The U.P. is very sparsely populated. There's a lot of wilderness up there.

    👍👍👍 what is the story behind the name Norway?? I am very curious about that since I am a Norwegian from Norway😊😊

      I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Norwegian community at one point. I know there are a lot of Finlanders in the U.P. There might be Norwegians too.

    Hi, my name is Jay. Love watching your videos. I find Michigan rocks too. I think I found one that I would love for you to take a look at. It's a very nice piece of multi colored quartz. Would I be able to give you my email so that I can send you a photo or two of it?
