- Have you always wanted to swim or touch a manatee but never knew how or where? In today video, Katie and I take my Riverhawk B60 to Crystal River. Crystal river is home to upwards of 100 manatees during the winder. We launched at Fort Island Park and it's roughly a 20 minute boat ride to the spring entrance. Three sisters spring is one of the best locations to see and swim with manatees in Florida.
Even in Lake Michigan's 45 degree water temps you can stay warm in a 3mm suit. and yes, it's a great feeling.

At about 30ft deep, at Kings Spring (kinda the main spring) there is a plaque. To paraphrase it says: If man is so callous, so focused on his/her own needs that they could render an animal as gentle and harmless as the manatee extinct. He is one step closer to his own demise. Gives me the chills.
The wife and I drive from lakeland up there too. We kayak from kings bay over to three sisters. Well worth the drive and paddle
It's definitely worth it. I like homosassa, just a few minutes closer to Lakeland.

I was just in Homosassa Springs a couple weeks ago and found Luigi's Restaurant and it was fantastic.
I haven't tried that yet. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have to say that I was looking at the Riverhawk many years ago. It still looks likes the "one". Thank-you for sharing your adventures. I have been wanting to do most, if not all your trips. This boat is by far my favorite. The B60 trips will continue. I live on the south side. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else in Central Florida. Thanks for watching.
@@OverlandFlorida Fantastic! Look forward to new vids. We live in Cleveland Heights near S Fl Ave and Edgewood. Looking at property around S Bartow or maybe couple acres around Ft Meade. I really want an outdoor range. Lakeland has become ridiculously crowded. Still love it here and I'm about 9 min to work at airport. Tragically, Lakeland is starting to feel like why I moved from away from Orlando & Key West. Kevin, check out Towee Boats, out of TN. B60 is hard to find. Towee can be expensive but reminds me of a streamlined B60 and skinny enough to pull only 4 inches or so. Later. Pyrat.

Glad to see you back in the little boat, it has a lot more character than the freedom boat club boats. I didn't see any prop scares on any of the manatees, hopefully that means people are being more careful around them.
The little boat sure does have some character. I don't know if I could ever part with it. The freedom boat club boats are just much nicer. They come in handy.

Hey, great video. I also like your boat as I am a Gheenoeholic (yes I still like your riverhawk). I called the freedom boat club here in Jax and the prices were just overwhelming. Thanks for sharing though.
Thanks for watching. I love the B60, if I didn't have it, I'd have an LT25. Jacksonville is really popular, I'm sure the freedom boat club is kinda expensive up there.

We just did a wakulla river ride and saw several manatees we have been loving the 2021 Lt25 fully loaded and for some reason manatees remind me of one of our dogs she is a blue American bulldog lol
The LT25 is a great boat! That was my 2nd choice.

Lol 52 degrees is freezing 😂. Thanks for taking us along on the Manatee sightseeing trip that was cool. When the volunteer yelled at you for going to fast did you point out the pontoon boat that passed you?
It sure is freezing! The volunteer singled me out because I was the only private boat there. All the other boats were tour groups or charters taking people snorkeling.
Went to Citrus high, did the Marine Science Center as a kid in school. Very cool trip.

There are gators in these waters. They typically don't like the cool water of the springs.

So sad to see Crystal River manatees have lost their fear of boats and even approach a running motor. Boat strikes are the number one cause of injury and death to manatees.

You may have mentioned this but if not it's important to note that it is illegal to touch a Manatee in the state of Florida.
@@OverlandFlorida It's illegal to approach or touch a Manatee everywhere in Florida except Kings Bay in Crystal River..It's illegal in Homosassa, Weeki Wachee,Hernando Beach and everywhere else in Florida except..etc..
If you are swimming in Florida and a manatee comes up to you and you pet it. It's ok.
You can't molest, harass or chase a manatee.
Eat at Old Mill Tavern (looks like a dive bar, but HUGE great burgers, reasonable. The Freezer for steamed shrimp, it's famous.
We go to Old Mill all the time for karaoke! It's so much fun. The freezer is good too!
