Something I've noticed with people I've mentored including my own children back ... a long time ago ... is a tendency to do the opposite - to cut long notes. My suspicion was that they get anxious because "nothing" is happening, and cutting it short alleviates the anxiety.

Just finished my pasta style breakfast (07:38 am GMT) topped off with thick and sumptuous gateau chocolate ala piccolo vino spumante brut while taking keen note of the suggestions in this excellent drop .And so now,to the bench and keys.😀

I get tripped up when there's a rest right after a long chord in the left hand. I want to keep holding the left hand notes through the rests because I'm trying to keep it resonating with the melody in the right hand. It's harder with an electric keyboard where you don't have the natural strings holding the resonance of the deeper notes in the air. I tend to way overuse pedal with an electric keyboard because it's harder to get a full sound. Great video, as always.

I found this to be one of the hardest concepts to grasp for a lot of people. Honestly, one of the most important things that helped me is A LOT of listening and watching great performers do it, and even copying what they do.
This is great insight as usual, Josh!
    Hope you're doing well.

Yes! And that the same piece can sound complete different if it's played by another pianist

    Hello dear Josh,
yes, groping lost in the dark. That's right. I still have a lot to learn because I don't really understand the help offered. The sound is very beautiful.Thank you for your helpful videos.
I'm playing Ponce's Intermezzo now, very slowly. It's best for me to be with myself. It's a bit hard for me and I probably won't finish it.
    Have a nice day,
    Ursel

    Interesting concept.
We are not taught that. Only to count the beat, not “feel” the beat. Had to listen to this twice before I understood the full concept
