I’m still not sold on the Coco Gauff hype. Her game seems to be lacking for a world #2 player. While she can definitely improve, I feel like the world placed too much pressure on her early on to become that standout player, and she still hasn’t found that true “IT” factor in my opinion.
@@scout7060 Agreed. She has a huge backing that seems to be forced on us, trying to sell her as more than what she has actually accomplished at this point in her career.
Coco looked like she was ready to cry again after the last point. She must be just miserable these days. Not really sure how she comes out of this. There's pressure because the media wants her to be dominant so badly - covers of magazines, carry the US flag at the Olympics, etc. So she is supposed to be this clear superstar but reality is she is playing as about a #20 - #30 ranked player on the current tour. Really hope she does not go the way of Andrescu, Naomi Osaka and others who reached the top and then fell. The good thing is she is not injured and she has solid parents. The bad thing is her FH does not seem to be getting better and other top 30 players are not afraid of her.
Doubt she’s miserable but starting to realize that she doesn’t have to win every match. Life will go on and it is what it is. Just a tough stretch but she’ll bounce back.

Coco was out there playing games instead of taking it to Yulia. Coco would hit an aggressive shot, and then back off and start playing passive tennis again and that’s why she lost this match. Yulia will keep any player on the WTA out there hitting balls all day long unless you take it to her and play aggressive tennis. Well done to Yulia.
Congrats to Yulia! You can tell she was hungry for this win, and she earned it. As for Coco, I hope the weight of expectation isn't getting to her. I know early-round losses are tough especially when you're the defending champion and/or a favorite for these tournaments, but they're a part of the process. I think it's important Coco faces these challenges now as they'll help her grow into the formidable tennis player she's capable of becoming.
Before hiring Brad, Coco's career was very stagnant, since her break out she had been winning 250s only. Looking at her career history her 500, 1000, slam in 2 months was the 'lighting in a bottle moment'. Maybe this is her normal level.
That’s what I was thinking after this match. That crazy period in NA last year feels more like the one off rather than her usual level. This year she’s been having the same problems as she had before that stretch. And tbh, even during USO she wasn’t playing that great, she was losing sets but she was fighting for her life. That clutch-ness and fighting spirit have faded somewhat. But she’s too young to have any conclusions yet. Her level is enough to keep her in the top 10 and give her good draws.
Hasn’t won anything other than 250 tournament at Auckland but still good consistency in making QF or better in 10:out of 13 tournaments played between Beijing and French Open. The real issue is her poor form since Wimbledon.
Putinseva , Schnaider , Mira Andreeva , all are russian tennis player who are not top models , but who are more solid than girls like Samsonova , Rybakina , etc who could work for Vogue

Last year's North American hardcourt swing, in a nutshell - it got her 3,400 points: 500 from DC, 900 from Cincy, and 2,000 from the USO. This year, of those 1,400 from the first two tournaments... she's defended TEN points. She's already dropped to 3rd in the rankings, and stands an extremely strong likelihood of being 5th at best following this year's Open.
@@nunnayahbiznezz8071....the 2000 points she got in the us open...she did not deserve..for the way they did her opponents in the us open in new york city
I agree, James; I took note last year of how she played her matches very early in the day, while the match between the two players having whoever would be her opponent in the next round played what was often many hours later. The preferential treatment was sickening.
Coco AKA George’s Girl. She was 20 years old and lectured us on George Floyd being an ideal role model. I gotta admit she is about as intelligent as George was.
You should let more people know about this...I'm sure they pulled the video from youtube long ago. Floyd is the ideal role model for this crybaby "victim" Gauff.
Coco has achieved more on the wta tour than most women do in their entire careers. Ranked number 2 in the world most don't reach that level. She is a grand slam champion in singles and doubles. She was Ranked number one in doubles. Quit comparing her to Serena because even though Serena achieved a lot in her career she didn't dominate earlier in her career. Jennifer capriotti and monica sellis was given serena plenty of trouble back then. Folks love to tare down Coco but whatever your opinion might be she is a multimillionaire.
CGauff needs to be more than able to defend, imho. More technique more variety or perhaps just perfecting some aspect of her game. Mind you, that could be said to many players today. Wish her the best for the US Open.
They’ve figured out her patterns and weaknesses. Coco’s serve is good but attackable. Coco’s biggest strength is her speed which she still has. She will be a top 20 player most of her career but she needs another weapon to up her level. Her forehand has been letting her down A LOT! Otherwise, I see her game and career being closer to that of Wozniacki. A great counter puncher but beatable.
Iga’s almost certainly the best mover, thanks to anticipation & supreme tennis footwork. Sure. Coco maybe can beat Świątek in a 100m sprint. However she doesn’t cover the court as efficiently, whatsoever
Coco develops more muscles than anybody else on the tour but nothing else. Anyway she is making fortune from promotors and sponsors /shame for NB and Chanel/. The successful time of sisters Williams is hunting all Americans. I'm Coco fan but my nerves have a limit 😢
Momentum shifted when she was serving while leading 4-2 in the 3rd. Those 3 double faults were costly but equally interesting was the fact that she had zero double faults prior to that. She’s doing the right things… tough loss.. Changing your style of play in season is not easy, as much as I wish she does well but perhaps she just needs to walk this out and not have too much expectations and pressure on herself, world no. is 24, Coco is 20. Patience and time Coco, patience and time..🙏🏾. Keep showing up, it will eventually come together 🔥❤️
@@cme9241 she changed her style of play this season.. if you do some research around changing in-season you’ll start to understand why this is happening. How she was winning before is not sustainable in the long run hence the changes… To be fair, we can only really start being concerned next season if things remain the same. But for the rest of the season, I’m not expecting much but still wish her well at the US Open and the rest of the tournaments she’ll be participating in❤️
I wonder why tennis announcers apparently believe it's too much trouble and effort to take 10 seconds to learn how to pronounce players' names correctly.
I know the Coco hate train always wants to dog on her. But as a Coco stan, I'm concerned. This lose in itself isn't too horrible, Yulia is having a breakout year. But Coco is losing matches she wouldn't have previously. People look to her forehand, and it is a problem, but this feels mental like she's not thinking her way out of trouble. Granted Coco is still 20 so still maturing mentally and physically, but jeez. I see some major tweeks coming in the off season. Maybe swapping out coaches (not Brad though he is still fire for her). But something. Look at Jessie stagnated, switch coaches, won her first grass and decended her Canadian title at a whole different venue.
She needs a new coach most certainly. I thought she should have moved on from Brad after this years Roland Garros and hire a coach that puts more emphasis on more aggressive all-court tennis.
Think so highly of Coco and her tennis..but interviews profiling her in recent years she characterized herself as having perfectionist tendencies..and that can be an impossibly distracting standard to chase in a sport where one’s mental focus is so key. Maybe could use some lightness in her preparation time for The Open. Her game is awesome! 🎾🌿🦋
@@jameslandrum160 Top players have some battles with nerves and playing within themselves and it can take time to hone that. Iga Swiatek was dealing with this early on..obscured by her emergence around Covid and worked hard with adjustments. We forget because her confidence level improved so much. In some of her matches she used to write things in a notebook between games! Remember Sabalenka not so long ago was coping with nerves and credited her coaching staff..saying she was going to find her way through things..
Gauf had a very good forhand at the Grand Slam Us Open I think she played and served well .Was this with another coach or did she she get help from somebody else there another coach I don' t remember details. She was aggressive at that time with both forhand and backhand.Someone refresh memory!
Coco needs to work on her mental strength. She's putting too much pressure on herself. Maybe expectations are getting the best of her. Maybe she'll learn the hard way too. Anyways, still rooting for you ❤❤❤

Great match by Yulia! Congrats! Just an observation. She seems a little heavier than she was at Wimbledon, for whatever that is worth. Either way, she played great! Coco is definitely off her best game over the past couple of months, however...
man Coco needs a head coach like asap. Guess winning a grand slam is still not enuf to get her confidence. Wonder what will if winning a grand slam doesn't. Like Osaka part II
Danger time for Coco. That forehand and serve of hers are super suspect and will only be magnified at the US Open playing as defending champ. I hope someone on her team can help her out ASAP
It is very hard to make a sense regarding the decline of Coco. She must recover herself mentally. Coco really looks redundant and lacklustre with her mobility. I hope she will try to be more consistent and steadier than the previous months of the season.
Wow... the WTA created this video which showed FOUR winning shots from Putintseva in the 3rd set... while showing only ONE from Gauff in it? "Color me surprised", to put it mildly.
I think Coco should be playing to the sides and not directly to her opponent and in the middle. But rather she should make it difficult and harder for her opponent to pick up her balls.
Pegula went from clay, grass, clay to hard and she defended her title in Toronto. Gauff went from clay, grass, clay to hard and she cant defend her title and wasnt able to defend her quarterfinal run in toronto
Maybe it’s the balls. They’re using lighter balls this year which fly faster. She benefitted from the heavy balls last year for her topspin and generally to keep the ball in with her shaky FH.

Why do you hope she does not fall? Her whining and crying is annoying. I hope she keeps losing.
Doubt she’s miserable but starting to realize that she doesn’t have to win every match. Life will go on and it is what it is. Just a tough stretch but she’ll bounce back.

Not so much lack of confidence.

USO is where she's defending a ton of points and will need to get past the first round...
That was nice of you to say.🙂
@@Keepinglivingintruth I wasn't being nice. I was simply stating what I believe. Now, I could be proven wrong. Only time will tell☺
@@gabrielametodieva8360..US Open...should not been her ..they should be ashamed for what they did to her opponents in the us open in new york city

I have been always wondering how GAUFF IS RANKED # 2
Last year's North American hardcourt swing, in a nutshell - it got her 3,400 points: 500 from DC, 900 from Cincy, and 2,000 from the USO. This year, of those 1,400 from the first two tournaments... she's defended TEN points. She's already dropped to 3rd in the rankings, and stands an extremely strong likelihood of being 5th at best following this year's Open.
@@nunnayahbiznezz8071....the 2000 points she got in the us open...she did not deserve..for the way they did her opponents in the us open in new york city

They’ve figured out her patterns and weaknesses. Coco’s serve is good but attackable. Coco’s biggest strength is her speed which she still has. She will be a top 20 player most of her career but she needs another weapon to up her level. Her forehand has been letting her down A LOT! I wonder why tennis announcers apparently believe it's too much trouble and effort to take 10 seconds to learn how to pronounce players' names correctly.
Coco was up 4 - 2 in that 3rd set. Then, she started pressing. Hope she figures it out.
I'm surprised Coco lost this match! She had the break, then just collapsed! She gotta be ready for the US Open!
Maybe it's the 9 Double Faults
51 Unforced Errors likely had something to do with it, as well. *Laugh*

I think Coco should be playing to the sides and not directly to her opponent and in the middle. But rather she should make it difficult and harder for her opponent to pick up her balls.
