Tenzing-Hillary (Lukla) Airport: The Entry Point to the Everest Region || 2024

Tenzing Hillary Airport is arguably the most thrilling airport in the world. It used to be called Lukla Airport, but renamed to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in 2008 to honor the first persons to reach Everest.
This airport was built in 1964 by Edmund Hillary. Not surprisingly, at 2,845 meters, it is one of the highest airports in the world. The runway was improved numerous times but finally paved in 2001.
On one side of the airport lies the rock cliff, and the other end drops off to a 600-meter. It is the busiest STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) airport in Nepal and provides the vital route that connects this remote Himalayan region to the world.
