I've kind of fallen in love with this song, particularly the remix on the full album. For some reason, it just... stirs chords in my heart, the lyrics, the tone... simply beautiful. And for some reason, the voice modulation adds something to it for me... I dunno, I'm just gushing right now, but I love this song.

Can anyone tell me what this song is about? It's a really pretty song btw. Is this song directed towards Big Mac? But in the song she sings about her crush remembering her, suggesting he forgot. Also, warning, this story doesn't have a happy ending lol: So basically, Cherilee falls for Big Mac for real at the end of Hearts and Hooves Day. However, for some reason, he never seems to remember her whenever she greets him. Every time he just says "hello" as though she's a total stranger. And every time, it hurts her. Whether Big Mac just doesn't really notice or bother paying attention to her, or he has some kind of memory issues (for example anterograde amnesia) I don't know. Or maybe there's some time travel bullshit involved, who knows? XD Either way, it's summer in Ponyville and Cherilee wishes desperately for Big Mac to, just once, remember her. Summer is a time of love and romance and Cherilee wishes she could be with Big Mac and maybe also watch the fireworks with him. But he's always off by himself, preferring his own company. He shows no interest in Cherilee. Finally, one day, something bad happens to Big Mac and, in order to save him, Cherilee does some sort of magic spell to keep him alive/bring him back to life. In exchange, though, Cherilee sacrifices her own life and turns into a tree. Specifically, a cherry tree. Big Mac doesn't know what happened or even that Cherilee is the one who saved his life (or that she died, for that matter.) Though he did catch word of the local school teacher apparently disappearing on top of the hill overlooking the school house, where this big cherry tree suddenly appeared not too long ago. Nobody can find her, and no one knows what happened to her. Cherilee cannot speak as a cherry tree, but she continues to watch over her beloved Big Mac as well as all the townspeople and her beloved students for many years to come. Rumor has it that, in the summer time, if you go to the top of the hill and listen closely you'll hear a very faint voice humming, a voice that sounds like Cherilee's.

Then my mind wandered off, thinking about how happy MLP:FiM generally is...then I'm like "it would be a shame if anything were to disrupt that, even for a beautifully real, heart-wrenching moment." ...what would kids really remember, something that's bad, but turned into a good that only MLP could. And then it hit me.

It kind of reminds me of The Queenstons' original mix of "Our Special Place" (easy to find on youtube), in where it adds a sense of peaceful and relaxing earnesty to the song, regardless of the topic that the song is going through. Both of those songs I've listened to more times than I'm willing to admit, simply because they're so tranquil.
