3:00 To add to your point: One of the major theme of the story is one of irony: The main character is smart, capable of understanding other's thoughts on a given situationy yet never thinks twice about how others see her. As a result, her very efforts to stay away from the war are the very efforts that lead her into it. This is the self-prohpecy trope, with the fun twist that the main character blames the pseudo-diety for things that are mostly of her own making.
i agree with you to an extent. Remember God cheats constantly. Like how she became the leader of the mage corps. Zettour had a problem and her file had Deus lo Vult (God wills it) on it which directly led to her meeting Zettour (its played out as a chance meeting but one of the highest ranking officers who is a big planner of the war just so happens to visit the war college and the library she was in?).
The misunderstanding trope is common in Japanese entertainment. Its due to the language and the rules people normally follow when communicating, its easy to make an error and a misunderstanding results. A good English example is the gilbert and Sullivan play, “The Importance of being earnest”. This does exist in Youjo Senki and is a sub-theme in the overall story arc.
part of it IS certainly tanya's fault, but we also know that being x is more than happy to interfere whenever things are going too well for tanya. we cannot be entirely certain how much of what is happening is tanya failing to understand how she comes across and how much is being x deliberately interfering
The funny thing is it isn't a "pseudo-deity". The being meets the definition of the word deity. As the being in charge of reincarnation that does make them god over human existence. The ability to send Tanya from modern Japan to an alternate reality is a power of god. So you are correct, it is a self fulfilling prophecy. Because she(and by extension you) deny the existence of a thing that rules your life has created a delusional bubble of self imposed suffering.
Technically she didn't commit any war crimes and the Empire was also attacked first and was in defensive wars. For example the non-french were committing war crimes in Arene - killing unarmed prisoners of war, hiding behind civilians and therefore making them into combatants. In the manga there were repeated warnings about the attack, but they didn't believe them.
In the noval (and I think also in the manga, but I'm not sure) there's even a scene with someone on the side of the Republic finding a computation orb of one of the defeated Francois mages and initially rejoicing about how great this is going to be for their anti-imperial propaganda... until he views the contents and despairs that they can't use it, since the Republic's own recordings wouly only proof that it was them who committed war crimes and the Empire stuck to the letter of the law.
I remember someone mentioning that Tanya is a Lawful Good because of the fact thst she follows rules. And a technical loophole is still a technical loophole.
@@spartastic4 She could definitely play in the league of the highest ranking devils and stand up to the purest of angels, when it comes to the lawful-chaos axis, so lawful is out of the question. Good or evil however is a bit more complicated. Everything she does serves three goals: 1) stick to the rules, 2) self preservation, 3) shortening the war and by doing so, limit the overall losses of the war.... and I guess 4) mess up communists, though with how she thinks of communism as being inherently destructive to anything it touches, even the communists themselves, that's essentially already part of 2 and 3. She does some really evil stuff, but with the overall goal of preventing even wose death-tolls later. That is a good goal - saving lives - by committing actions that are definitely evil. So does that equal out to neutral, or do either actions or intent weigh more? But considering that she values her own life more than the goal of shortening the war and is willing to sacrifice, or even personally kill near enough anyone and anything for self-preservation, I think good is locked off for her and it's just a question between lawful neutral and lawful evil.
"Technically not a war criminal" "A thesis on how to ignore the spirit of international treaties while obeying the letter" "Makes every mandatory warning about imminent attacks as unbelievable as possible" Also, pretty sure the attack on Moscow was actually a war crime - no advance warning, targeting civilian infrastructure. Not that I was not singing alone.
As a former academic, I loved the show. A lot of stuff about Chicago School of Business, economic and military theory, sociology, some psychology. And a bonus, if you are pretty familiar with history, they do loosely recreate some historic battle and events. Not trying to sound like an elitist, but if you arent familiar with the things I mentioned above, which most people arent, this show will go over your head and you wouldnt truly appreciate it.
Very true, the main story arc is Tanya’s struggle against God and she uses all the techniques of logic to foil Gods attempt to make her so desperate she would willingly pray to God. The story does stray from this when Tanya gets into a struggle with Mary Sue, but it’s the underlying theme.
I mean, the Empire was attacked on all fronts they never fired the first shot in any of the war declarations by it's neighbors, and had a defensive military doctrine prior to Tanya's introduction. Heck, the entire reason everyone was declaring war on the Empire basically boiled down to "it's too powerful and can't be allowed to continue to exist" with no greater complexity. Tanya also explicitly does everything within the law. Finding loopholes in laws that would drive some lawyers up the wall, sure, but still within legal codes of the era. Heck, basically every 'evil' action she takes is in following laws/rules to their extreme, and her compulsion to effectively method-act to be the best/most extreme example of her position in society. In D&D terms, she's somewhere between a Lawful Neutral / Lawful evil alignment, being played by a powergaming rules lawyer. Considering her motivation is to save her nation from being destroyed by outside forces who continue to declare war on them unjustly over and over again, and opposing a false god who sets about promoting said war and screwing with her in particular out of spite/pride, it's probably more accurate to consider her an antihero rather than a villain. Sure, she commits horrible acts, but they're in line with the norms of the world wars in the real world, merely that she has foreknowledge on her side to do things as efficiently as possible, plus her mage abilities.
Her motivations are very clear and stated numerous times, she volunteered bcs saw the nation was doomed to go to war and as a mage she was sure to be conscripted (so she took preventative action so she could be on a better position for survival and escalating the ranks or settling in a rear position b4 war starts), tanya desires her peaceful worklife she had in prev life and for sure doesnt care for others or the nation. She pretends to be a patriot to be rewarded by her superiors and to inspire troops as a commander.
This is a very accurate description, even if the situation presented is a bit contrived. However I suppose without Bismarck The German Empire may have ended up like this in the 1890’s. The actual prime story arc is Tanya's struggle against God and the use of logic to foil God's plan to make her so desperate she would willingly pray to God. IN the anime there is only one god, but in the light novel there are many Gods, so we are talking about a God which looks western, but lives in a world where there are many Gods, including eastern Gods.
its literally germany in ww1. the british and others wanted to get rid of us (the british could have prevented both wars, but didnt want to) -and Adolf was only able to rise, because his fanaticism was necessary to have the power and drive to rebuild from the endless humiliation and destruction of ww1 and the great depression. but we he in turn was, similar to mussolini -all be it for different reasons, unprepared for the war he started after that
@@Thought_Processing_ not technically, the ongoing war in youjo senki is unlike the second world war and is very similar in various aspects as the first world war instead. you know, the war where everyone made germany the scapegoat even though everyone else started it for no other reason than greed and a bottomless arms race that preceded the war? in the war of this anime germany is not the aggressor nor are they the instigator of the war, the allied powers saw them as a danger to their global dominion due to their dramatically advancing technology and military prowess. and so they instigated the war themselves in a manner similar to america's own scheme of blaming the completely accidental sinking of the USS Maine (1889) on Spain for america to take the carribean peninsula, guam, and the philippines, even if everything they said was a total lie it still worked. basically they blamed some kind of staged or rigged incident on this anime's version of germany hoping to get them to capitulate and surrender valuable and highly advanced technology and military secrets, and instead were met with a very justifiable total war. we can even see how far behind many of the enemies are in the anime with one nation going as far as to fall into the classic failings of napoleonic firing lines in their incredibly vain and desperate attempt at anti-air countermeasures against mages with magical barriers and artillery grade ammunition. so where does "being-X" fit into all of this? well, major spoilers here but being X is not actually god. but rather a messed up version of St. Michael, in this universe hes actively trying to become "god" by making people believe that he is god. but there is already a "god" in play, and the real one doesnt need believers to be all powerful.
@@chloekaftan I was referring to the warcrimes, the destruction of Arene for example, later on the looting in the Eastern front and so on. They were not technically wrong according to the laws of war but were morally dubious.
@@addedcheese Hopefully the wait won't be as bad as the Chinese Isekai I've been waiting for (Release that Witch). Been half a decade since that was originally announced... ruclips.net/video/noelrXCw4dY/видео.html Then there's "Lord of the Mysteries". China has some pretty good Isekai in the pipeline. Problem is if and when they'll release them.
@@Master10k2 nice, if memory serves the 2nd season of Tanya was supposed to originally come out already. But COVID happened. I do hope it won't be long.
This is why I hate how they made the English name Sage of Tanya the Evil(The actual translation of Youjo Senki is something along the lines of Little Girl War Story iirc.) it just poisons the well and people who don't pay attention to the actual story just assume she's evil and 'the bad guy', and the fact that she's in this world's version of Germany means she's obviously on the side of the bad guys, even though this is not WWI or WWII, and in this world they were basically attacked, defended themselves, get attacked again, defend themselves again, etc and the reason the other countries keep piling on is due to them fearing the growing strength of the Empire.
She doesn't really have any choice. In the anime and the books her choices were army or starve to death. Once in the army her choices were fight or firing squad. She is shown trying to end the war quickly multiple times only for the old farts to screw up her plans and prolong the war. Eventually she defects taking her men with her to help bring the war to an end.
I also agree about how the translators just gave the show an incorrect title in English. There are so many anime's not just this one that find themselves in this injustice of an inaccurate title. which is pretty sad to see.
This used to really upset me too, but in a roundabout sort of way, it actually kind of works. One of the big themes of the story is about how humans are ultimately driven by emotion and impulse, no matter how intelligent or rational we claim to be. By naming the show as it is named, and having the country for which our protagonist fights in be (not)Germany in an early 20th century European conflict, many viewers get exposed as the very thing the story is criticizing. Impulsive, emotional, and irrational people. Who based on preconceived notions, aesthetics, and even a simple name, write off a country as being evil. As in, so irredeemable, it does not deserve to exist in its current form. And they don't even do it consciously, they simply assume that the empire are "The bad guys". The maker of this video being a prime example
You are not rooting for the bad guys. The Empire expressly was not the instigator. Tanja is simply an expert on being technically correct. The best kind of correct.
I pointed out the empire being the bad guy here not because they were instigators of a war, but because of the acts they commit during said war. The bombing of the factory being a prime example of the sentiment that in this war there are no good guys.
I feel it’s underrated but well worth watching. And the pacing and story progression is great, without too much fluff. Something a lot of series (anime or live action) still fail to avoid.
I do agree that most isekai nowadays have that look of being just copy paste, especially the worldbuilding if there is any. The fact is, almost every isekai "fantasy" is almost alway the typical medieval europe with dragonds and magic. It just gets repetive when thats the only type of fantasy setting you see in these animes or mangas That why i love "Kill six billion demons" for example. The world isnt a typical medieval fantasy but much more different almost alien like. And it doesnt have a main character who; is overpowered and wins every fight effortlessly, solves every problem with ease, has no bad consequences from choices they make or so charismatic that everyone likes him or falls in love with him Dont get me wrong, I still like the typical medieval fantasy world. At least when it doesnt involve the typical isekaid main character.
I find it hilarious that of the three truly military anime's with a focus on the war and its politics as opposed just the individual trying to survive in one. Two of them are Isekai's, the third is Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
There are a few others as well, such as Zipangu, focusing on a modern japanese warship being transported to ww2 as well as Deep Blue Fleet where isoroku yamamoto doesn't die, but is transported back in time to re live his mistakes of ww2 and change history
Correction, it's not the third reich because that was ww2 this takes place in what is basically ww1 (even if the ww2 jokes are funny) (if I'm wrong please tell me, I'm not a history buff)
Loved Tanya the Evil and wish we had more of it but its been years so I assume its canceled. Here's to hoping it gets picked up for more seasons some day.
Season 2 is as far as I'm aware done and was supposed to come this summer season but was delayed. Don't know why it was delayed or if the initial release date was just speculation by journalists or real, but the fact is that there is more coming in the not too distant future.
@@friskydingo9024 no worries. ✌ the up and coming season 2 was one of the major reasons I made this video. to get more people excited for an anime that really deserves the love
Tried some new stuff, like less rigid script writing as in not just going from one point to the next but trying to tie them all together in a more natural way. I also made a conscious effort to read my script more naturally. You may have also noticed that both in this and the previous videos I've clipped the music to try and find more fitting bits for what is going on in the video as a whole. Please do let me know if you like or dislike any of the changes as I am trying to produce better videos that you might enjoy more.
As some1 who just speed ran 7 to 8 videos I congratulate you on your progress on the delivery, it gets better the more recent the videos are. Good job, keep it going🎉
Who wouldn't like a show with a Right Wing Libertarian Protagonist, who is also a psychopathy who cares little about other human's lives but then... seems to start to develop feelings/respect for the men under her command.... a character that seems to actually change somewhat? I mean seeing that final battle in the film where she trusted them enough to split her forces, and watching some of the grunts literally doing Tanya like sh*t on the battlefield felt like being a mom and watching your kids grown up. It was amazing.

You should give the LN a go. Unlike the anime, which has far more action and commentary, the LN dives into more of Tanya's internal thoughts and there's more political and strategy descriptions involved.
I had to "pop on" to say that, not only have I watched it, but also to say that Carlo Zen trully has a way with words that just hits! Not only do I recommend the anime, but especially the Light Novel! But PLEASE, watch the anime FIRST and then delve into the LNs. Trully a great piece of work! Highly recommendable series! 👍
I love it's attention to detail. The Scandinavian mages fly on ski's, the French on machine horses and the Britts on brooms. Finally the Germans fly with a single boot which shows how agile the German planes were in the war. Also the Dakia shooting-gallery(I mean war) was also spot on as Romania did try to invade during WWI and did so with only ground troops and not scrambled communication. They were quickly defeated and annexed.
The books eventually really lean into how brutal war gets especially when it gets to what is essentially WW2 Germany's push into russia and the slowy crumbling of the war effort around tanya.
Tanya makes my inner monster so very happy. Look into Ascendance of a Bookworm. It's a different sort of isekai that I personally enjoy very much. Also, I have to support my fellow bookworm, even if she isn't real.
if you are of some caucasian complexion, then this monster is WOTAN -the more primal and raw (and older) form of ODIN, before he sacrificed himself to himself to gain wisdom. here a comparsion to alchemy 1.) nigredo - schwarz, black 2.) albedo - weiß, white 3.) rubedo - rot, red the blackness is the raw unrefine and undiluted unity of all desire, urge and will the white is the knowledge of suffering, restriction, limitation and frustation the red is how the black evolves despite the white and makes up the body of all things so in comparison to this interpretation of alchemy: Nigredo/black : WOTAN Albedo/white: the world, universal laws, restrictions from the outside or restriction as consquence of his creations and deeds Rubedo/red: ODIN
This was one of the first isekai and anime I saw. I started with ace attorney and then isekai quartet or konosuba and then I watched youjo senki after some other anime I think. I love the sound design in youjo senki and the animation. I think the CGI look very good with the dark environment
I feel like you did a good job talking about the show. As a military nerd I was surprised how accurate the uniforms were, and the differences between the ww1 uniforms and the ww2 machinery. Hopefully the next season will be releasing in the first half of 2025 as planned, but the studio that announced that in 2021 has gone radio silent on its production so far.
tanyas nation in the show was invaded. they didnt declare war on the world they only defended themselves then went and invaded the nations that tried to take them out. also tanya never commits any warcrimes she is quite the stickler for rules
Best isekai that i have watched. I love isekai but it gets really repetitive, i hate that most isekai mc's are just op without any reason. Saga of Tanya the Evil is exactly what i want from isekai. Good world, great and enjoyable mc and the goal is pretty clear in a sense that it tries to make Tanya seem like an evil and terrible person even thought she really havent done anything wrong. Ofc she isnt hero but she also isnt villain either at least thats how i see it. What i expect is that the real villain of the story is this Being X/"God" because so far this "god" hasnt been acting like a "god". Saga of Tanya the Evil is a fucking masterpiece and one of the kind in isekai genre. When most isekai have same most of the time boring plot this anime really flips the script and breaks the rules. Absolutly a masterpiece of an anime. :). Waiting for season 2... patiently...
A good review of this series. Some points i almost objected to, but after watching the whole video i see you do cover the points i would of raised. One interesting point, which was indirectly covered, was an attempt to by God to make Tanya pray to him (for real) caused God to make the war far worst than it would of otherwise been. One point not covered was God specifically put Tanya into the worst possible situation in order to ensure her life would be miserable, however Tanya used her Boston school of economics logic to foil God at almost every point, which i expected pissed this god off a lot.
2:38 not actually the bad guy, the Empire is more the anti hero of the story, the Empire is not the aggressor and got attacked by the other nations who basically are jealous because the empire has a bigger industrial, technological and military dick then all the other places. People tend to mistakenly think the Empire is evil (mainly because of Tanya) just by the fact how efficient they are at what they are doing.
There are parts of the light novel that could be tightened up or give some more nuance but overall I liked it. It is a wholly unique story and While I would love to see more in its vein it sort of feel like it is something that cannot be recreated or copied, it nailed its premise and world really well.
The one thing that makes a huge difference is the fact that in the anime none of the small little comedy bits are left, like her emotions are quite off from the manga(I know it started after the anime) and the comedic faces she sometimes made with other people while speaking with other characters. Another thing I saw is that in the show, Major Rerugen, the general staff guy with glasses doesn't show how much he dislikes the presence of tanya since he thinks of her as 11 year old war maniac. There is ofcourse the fact that they also skipped the ENTIRE african campaign which was definetealy not important to the story...
@@yummy_yummy330 What I kind of meant was that You know how most Isekai worlds are very similar? I cannot imagine anyone creating a world similar to Tanya's. I do think Tanya can be rewritten to an extent, but never copied.
The empire is based on Cisar Wilhelm II’s 2nd riche, or the German empire of world war 1, the eagle on the yellow shield and red field gives it away, (so dose the the spiked Stallhelm which was no longer in widespread use in ww2. Also kit of the French equivalent force, it is the ww1 uniform, same gose for the soviets, it’s the white army’s uniform from ww1 basically all the uniforms suggest ww1 analog
Instead of saying its just an isekai with a spin series, its easier to say its a 20th century war anime with an isekai presentation, especially in the novel, the anime took some liberties to make it a little more for general audiences. The OST is really good the only slight complain is that is so good and iconic that they use some tracks a little too much.
I dont think she's an atheist she just despises being x because she thinks of him as a fake god or evil god. I think from a Judeo-Christian viewpoint she is right because why would god demand you to worship him, that sounds almost like the devil trying to persuade you to believe in them but would god actually do that from that viewpoint? but i do understand what youre talking about. Tanya's viewpoints kinda make her less empathetic and too logical/rational like a redditor
Tanya herself sometimes do to people what X did to her, namely she punishes Insubordination with a deadly challenge of a price. I really want to watch a followup season.
i do like mostof the better issekai out there, even sao, but this one ... there is just something off about it and i can't say that i like this one though ... cause i FUCKING LOVE IT!!! It is just so refreshing beeing on the "evil" side for once and having the main character not just act out of kindness and etc. but also out of pure spite and hate. god i love that anime
For a long time, the name put me off and didn't read it. Holy moly, it is great. It's the greatest isekai ever. Also, Tanya is not evil. It's full scale war. Much worse things happened in WWI and WWII which we never heard of.
Season 2 is (hopefully) coming soon. At least I Think that is the main reason, I just made it since it's a good anime 😂 and I got a good idea for a video name
Wow! I never knew anyone else watched this niche anime! Next, you should review a lesser known hidden gem called Attack on Titan! Almost no one is talking about it!
It's great. But don't watch it, it leaves on a massive cliffhanger of a season 1, and season 2 was announced but hasn't even produced a teailer in 4 years. I'd wait, because you'll watch it, and then want to keep watching and you'll just be disappointed that there isn't more. Hold until 2025 basically. As there is some under the table rumor that it might be reannounced or even released this year.
The books quickly dropped isekai and magic. Tanya isn't afraid of guns, bullets or war but starving to death. Things were a lot more grim and realistic in the books. Her short stature was due to malnutrition and starvation. Tanya carries a potato where ever she goes because she is terrified of starving to death. She also uses her potato to compare her country to others by comparing potatoes... Spoilers she realizes the old farts want to keep the war going indefinitely, but works out they are going to run out of food and bullets. So she makes a name for herself and her men then defects to another country on the condition that the country takes her men and their families too.
A year late with this comment; my goodness, but then who gives an "EF" FIRST: I and myfriends in ANIME LOVE Youjo Senki, The Saga of Tanya the evbil. We are ALL waiting on bated breath for the next OVA / season / movie / WHATEVER we can get. SECOND: aside from the Isekai aspect, the miliyary Strategy and Tactics aspect, and the Tanya Is Evil aspect, we often try to find the parralels between the events in the anime, and actual military events, campaigns from WW1 and WW2. (you mentioned the Norway - Scandinavian aspect. good show, you). we debate, argue, and discuss this issue many many times, ad neaseum.. THIRD: we like ti talk about the tiny inconsistency that suggests that Tanya is in a way psychotic; the fact that while Tanya declares her refusal to believe in God (X), she prays to this deity for increased magical power, and even has loud spiteful discussions with Him, blaming Him for every thwarted opportunity that would nab her a cushy rear echelon position. IF Tanya refuses to acknowledge the power of X, who is she shouting at? I put it to you; what other Isekai anime has a protagonist who inspires fans to an excess of Love - Hate devotion than Tanya. In fact, if there is an anime i would LOVE to see adapted as a Live movie, it would be this one.
I've seen it 3 times and keep trying to get my wife to watch it, and largely because it's actually unique. You can't watch Tanya and the go see 4 series just like it being released at any given moment... Go type "Reincarnated as the villainess" and see how many results there are, and how recently they all came out. Tell me a series like Tanya that I might have not watched, and I'll go watch it to try find the copy paste formula, but off the top of my head, they don't exist. I can't think of any "I spat in god's face and he punished me with a harder life, so I spat harder" series, and I wish a motherf*cker WOULD copy the idea, because at least then we'd still have some small semblance of variety coming out amongst the same old crap coming out these days, season in and season out.
you must like overlord, then if you like Tanya. Because it's the same or a similar gimmick. Where in that 1 No one dies, it's just that he's teleported into a video game or another world.
I'm STILL pissed crunchyroll has exclusive distro rights in the US and only has it on bluray. I want it on DVD, but I'm not buying a japanese dvd player just to watch it. Just like I'm not buying a bluray player just to watch the crunchyroll version.
Is Tonya really evil? I mean yes she can be extreme Lee dangerous and non-empathetic but she really doesn’t go out of her way to do any additional harm. Heck the empire didn’t even start the war and we don’t even know if they are actually planning to take away any of the peoples freedoms. What’s ironic is that I actually found Tonya to be more likable than most of the other characters in the story.
@@rapson158 they blocking up a key supplied line. if the empire didn't deal with the problem eminently the front line would have collapsed. she also gave them warring not once but twice and if the people in that city wanted to could have had those civilians leave unharmed but for some reason they didn't and there no chose but to kill them. While this is horrible I can understand why Tonya and the empire had to do this. And there want much lop hole in the rules of war this how they deal with this problems.
In a perfect world, what need is there for faith in anything? Whether coworkers, friends, family, or God? He didn’t blame God, he didn’t believe in him in the first place, The worker that shoved him was lackluster by Japanese salaryman standards and he was the one to fire that worker. God wanted to teach him the intricacies of the world and get him to believe. In the world he becomes Tanya, while he commits occasional warcrimes, the Empire stays intact politically, the Austrian painter never rises, because the US doesn’t get a big-ego and cause Versailles, the Communists never truly rise to start a Cold War or influence half the world, but the hardships endured and lessons accrued in the hardest ways by humanity in a war that spanned the beginning of WW1 and end of WW2 assured that all those lessons that create strong men happened. The Empire does fall, but only because of the economy failing, and gets a sweetheart deal of fewer people tried at Nuremberg. Everytime Tanya expresses how she outsmarted Being-X, she gets hardship or flat out rebuked, such as in the movie when she finally gets the desk job, gloats directly to a statue of an angel, and then told she’s going to become a defacto general for the conflict against what becomes the foremost superpower in her world. There’s almost an altruism to Being-X in that he stumped communism and fascism while trying to teach her the value of faith. Being-X exhibited he was there, could destroy her at anytime, but almost used her in a way she wanted to be used (defying Him to her last breath). While he tried to reform Tanya, the world got more strife in the short term and a better deal in the long term.
not wrong reich, most of the equipment of the imperial army wouldn't in reality exists before the 2nd world war hence why I said 'a totally not third reich army' followed by 'Even if anime not Germany is ideologically closer to the kaiserreich than the third one'
I can't believe you fell for the commonwealth and unified states propaganda. The Empire is the good guys. The entire world declares war on the Empire not the other way around, this is a completely defensive war, the Empire has a right to defend itself. This is an underdog story where the good guys against all odds keep on somehow coming out on top by giving their all, it is a classic anime story. The Empire even follows the rules of war to the letter, rules that the rest of the world seem to continually break. How could they not be the good guys? The true evil in this world is certainly Being X who continually fans the flames of this war, sending millions upon millions of people to their deaths, all for the sake of sticking it to one guy/girl who got on his nerves, what an asshole. I don't even think the Devil could be more evil. Spoilers for stuff not adapted to anime yet The Empire does eventually declare on one nation, but that nation was literally pretending to be neutral, they were cooperating with the evil world alliance against the Empire, and were about to demand the Empire surrender (returning everything, paying the other nations reparations, and giving that nation some bordering territory for nothing) or they were going to join the evil alliance, declare war on the Empire, and take all of the territories they want by force. The Empire seems pretty justified in eliminating a nation that was clearly planning to backstab it.
@@devonjardine9603 IN the anime you are correct, in the light novel; there are lost of gods involved.
@@Norbert_SattlerI'd say she starts "Lawful Evil" and gradually becomes "True Lawful"
"Technically not a war criminal"
"A thesis on how to ignore the spirit of international treaties while obeying the letter"
"Makes every mandatory warning about imminent attacks as unbelievable as possible"
Also, pretty sure the attack on Moscow was actually a war crime - no advance warning, targeting civilian infrastructure.
I dunno, i enjoyed it even tough i wouldn't call myself an intellectual. 🤷♂
It is a show for us nerds. It is great.
Dang, nice episode
I definitely do watch the show not just because it’s enjoyable but also for all the history references that some people might not get.
IN the anime there is only one god, but in the light novel there are many Gods, so we are talking about a God which looks western, but lives in a world where there are many Gods, including eastern Gods.
its literally germany in ww1. the british and others wanted to get rid of us (the british could have prevented both wars, but didnt want to)
-and Adolf was only able to rise, because his fanaticism was necessary to have the power and drive to rebuild from the endless humiliation and destruction of ww1
and the great depression.
but we he in turn was, similar to mussolini -all be it for different reasons, unprepared for the war he started after that
The Empire did nothing wrong
Technically
Michael, in this universe
hes actively trying to become "god" by making people believe that he is god. but there is already a "god" in play, and the real one doesnt need believers to be all powerful.
@@chloekaftan I was referring to the warcrimes, the destruction of Arene for example, later on the looting in the Eastern front and so on. They were not technically wrong according to the laws of war but were morally dubious.

This!!! Most just asume that oh its germany = evil/bad guys. The real villain is being x aka this "god"
I also agree about how the translators just gave the show an incorrect title in English. There are so many anime's not just this one that find themselves in this injustice of an inaccurate title. which is pretty sad to see.
This is why I will always refer to the anime as “Youjo Senki”
Fck localizers, all my homies hate localizers
This is the only isekai ive ever seen where the truck-kun part actually makes sense
but it was technically train-kun
You are not rooting for the bad guys. The Empire expressly was not the instigator.
Tanja is simply an expert on being technically correct. The best kind of correct.
I pointed out the empire being the bad guy here not because they were instigators of a war, but because of the acts they commit during said war. The bombing of the factory being a prime example of the sentiment that in this war there are no good guys.
The algorithm brought me here. and im all for it. why does this dude have so few subs for such quality content
It just gets repetive when thats the only type of fantasy setting you see in these animes or mangas
That why i love "Kill six billion demons" for example. The world isnt a typical medieval fantasy but much more different almost alien like. And it doesnt have a main character who; is overpowered and wins every fight effortlessly, solves every problem with ease, has no bad consequences from choices they make or so charismatic that everyone likes him or falls in love with him
Dont get me wrong, I still like the typical medieval fantasy world. At least when it doesnt involve the typical isekaid main character.
How's the music not a hit, the way the orchestra is brought into play as everything starts to play out matches the anime perfectly

I know this is a year later but I've heard recently that we are getting the second season sometime in 2025
Tried some new stuff, like less rigid script writing as in not just going from one point to the next but trying to tie them all together in a more natural way. I also made a conscious effort to read my script more naturally. You may have also noticed that both in this and the previous videos I've clipped the music to try and find more fitting bits for what is going on in the video as a whole. You should give the LN a go. Unlike the anime, which has far more action and commentary, the LN dives into more of Tanya's internal thoughts and there's more political and strategy descriptions involved.
"Being X" name sounds like something Elon would come up with. he loves the letter X
Also, I have to support my fellow bookworm, even if she isn't real.
if you are of some caucasian complexion, then this monster is WOTAN
-the more primal and raw (and older) form of ODIN, before he sacrificed himself to himself to gain wisdom.
here a comparsion to alchemy
1.) nigredo - schwarz, black
2.) albedo - weiß, white
3.) rubedo - rot, red
the blackness is the raw unrefine and undiluted unity of all desire, urge and will
the white is the knowledge of suffering, restriction, limitation and frustation
the red is how the black evolves despite the white and makes up the body of all things
so in comparison to this interpretation of alchemy:
Nigredo/black : WOTAN
Albedo/white: the world, universal laws, restrictions from the outside or restriction as consquence of his creations and deeds
Rubedo/red: ODIN
Absolute percfection! Tanya is the best!
Her methods are extreme but she still hates wars
tanyas nation in the show was invaded. they didnt declare war on the world they only defended themselves then went and invaded the nations that tried to take them out. also tanya never commits any warcrimes she is quite the stickler for rules
Also kit of the French equivalent force, it is the ww1 uniform, same gose for the soviets, it’s the white army’s uniform from ww1 basically all the uniforms suggest ww1 analog
and yet we never got season 3 until this day
Instead of saying its just an isekai with a spin series, its easier to say its a 20th century war anime with an isekai presentation, especially in the novel, the anime took some liberties to make it a little more for general audiences.
The OST is really good the only slight complain is that is so good and iconic that they use some tracks a little too much.
I was going to say some of those were alright lol but then you said you didn't care for most and I get that lol
As much as I love the story, Tanya is such a reddit atheist at times.
The intro is fire

The books quickly dropped isekai and magic. Tanya isn't afraid of guns, bullets or war but starving to death. Things were a lot more grim and realistic in the books.
Oh come on, season one of shield hero was pretty cool :P
A year late with this comment; my goodness, but then who gives an "EF"
FIRST: I and myfriends in ANIME LOVE Youjo Senki, The Saga of Tanya the evbil.
I'm waiting for a 2nd season

Wrong Reich and wrong Century.
The Empire is an analogue for the Second Reich (Imperial Germany).
And the setting is an alternative 20th Century.
not wrong reich, most of the equipment of the imperial army wouldn't in reality exists before the 2nd world war hence why I said 'a totally not third reich army' followed by 'Even if anime not Germany is ideologically closer to the kaiserreich than the third one'
it's norrowly aboiding war crimes so far. mind you.
i wouldnt say tanya is evil more selfish and morally ambivalent
What about Eminence in Shadow
imagine getting killed by a loli mustache man knock-off
lets be honest the only reason i watch this anime is because of the war crimes 🤣
Isn't this the Second Reich? This is part of the Rise of the Kaiser Empire, paet of the First World War.
nah its only the second best
The Best Isekai You Never Saw

Tenkū no Esukafurōne / The Vision of Escaflowne
Umm error his steals panties from the godddess of luck
Spoilers for stuff not adapted to anime yet
The Empire does eventually declare on one nation, but that nation was literally pretending to be neutral, they were cooperating with the evil world alliance against the Empire, and were about to demand the Empire surrender (returning everything, paying the other nations reparations, and giving that nation some bordering territory for nothing) or they were going to join the evil alliance, declare war on the Empire, and take all of the territories they want by force. The Empire seems pretty justified in eliminating a nation that was clearly planning to backstab it.
