I started doing this with 4U a while back and it really puts you in the world. as a hunter, you would get jobs like that, random stuff you could like or not like, but it's up to you to find your way around those erksome quests with creative thinking It feels more like an achievement than a chore that way!!!
I feel like the effort of getting Abyssal Lagi's armor set in 3U is close to that of a 100% completion in a lot of games. You need Hallowed Jhen Mohran parts, so you will have to kill every single monster in the game to unlock him, which means you'll have to kill Alatreon, which means you'll have to clear every single low and high rank village quest (including that one with an Ivory Lagi, an Azure Rathalos and a Brachydios on the Arena) order to make him available. Abyssal Lagi's armor also requires Lucent Nargacuga and Abyssal Lagi rare drops (the thing you will be spending the LEAST time doing to get this set is actually fighting Abyssal). For hard fights like this, you will likely want to make armor sets specifically aimed at making the grind easier. I, for example, made the fully upgraded Stygian Zinogre lance along with the Glacial Agnaktor armor set just to farm Abyssal more easily (and ended up hunting each these two way more than Abyssal itself). Hallowed is a nightmare to do solo. The fight is monotonous and very few things actually give you a chance at getting the Earth Dragongem you need. I think it's only the tusk breaks and the mouth carves outside of the normal carve and quest rewards. On top of that, you will also need a plenty of rare drops from more ordinary monsters like Zinogre, which adds another very necessary layer of effort just to get that armor set. At least it looks phenomenal and has amazing skills.
I would love the newer games (Or even on a monhun collection) got a feature that was only on mh2dos to make tracking 100% easier. Dos has a library that shows you and everyone that enters your house a list of stuff you had done. This includes titles, weapons crafted and upgrades, armor made, items collected etc. That feature would make it so much easier to true 100% the games!
You know you are in deep when you cant wait to start crown farming once Monster Hunter Wilds comes out xD. I also became a Monster Hunter addict after World and have now 100% completed Freedom Unite, 3 Ultimate, Iceborne and Sunbreak and plan on completing 4U and GenU as well. I hope for you the best of luck in your crown spawns my fellow crown goon.
There’s nothing more satisfying than the pages of gold symbols in my guild card. Do I regret the 237 Lagiacrus? The 290 Blangonga?? Yes I do. Do I regret 100%? Never.
I could never bring myself to finish a Monster Hunter game. They feel infinite and become incredibly repetitive after a certain point. The first Monster Hunter game that hooked me was Freedom Unite on the PSP. I think I played for about 200 hours. I reached the offline missions given by the village elder, up to 6 stars, specifically a mission called '4 Horns.' That was my limit. I started noticing that most of the monsters were just repeats or slight color variations with increased difficulty, and that really bored me. I think that's how I'll approach the series going forward - at 41 years old, I simply can't afford that much grinding in games anymore.
Monster hunter is a game of choosing quests, pick and choose whichever appeals to you my man and if completing the game isn't a quest you wanna do, don't feel pressured! We all adore this series for something no matter our age after all so don't burn yourself out :)
I'm on the same grind in GU, mostly because I was looking to give myself some extra goals as an excuse to keep playing. Over 1k hours in now and am just missing some arena stuff, deviant quests and crowns. In other words, all the soul destroying stuff lol
I'm still working on my completion of Monster Hunter 2 (Dos), I'm around 1300 hours in I'm done hunting crowns, almost done crafting every blademaster weapon, I just gotta get the rest of the titles and craft every weapon and armour piece as they are all tracked in your bookshelf in your house then I can say I'm done (I'm still going to play it). I still need to go back to Monster Hunter G at some point and get my last 3 drome crowns.

It's a lot more manageable with games prior to 4. They don't really have an "endless" endgame. Just hunter rank grind and nothing else.
