    Just bought a Telluride for me, and a Carnival for the wife. Thanks, Mate! This really helped us use the capabilities of the vehicles. Bloody confusing!

    Really helpful video, as are your other videos. New driver here, with a Kia Stonic (might be called something different in the US), basically a Rio with small SUV design. I'm not too sure about letting my car drive itself, but it's good to know what the controls can do when I'm ready. Thanks for the videos.

      You can't turn it off, you can only adjust the distance

    does this follow the curve of the road too?

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  2 года назад +2

      The Lane Keeping Assist part of it can do that, us. You still have to keep your hands on the wheel and watch the road though.

    Mine has lane keeping but I don’t think it has adaptive cruise control…also the lane assist only works if there are painted white lines on both sides of the road

    Hi, thanks for the tutorial! Just got a new sportage (coming out of a niro ev). Does KIA's smart cruise/HDA need some time to calibrate itself before the system runs properly? My niro ev's smart cruise came out of the box perfectly-- perfect distance and slows down with confidence. My new sportage is slowing down far too late for comfort--- any advice? Thanks again!

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  2 года назад +1

      As far as I know there is no calibration period, the system may function slightly differently in the Niro since it's an EV, but I couldn't say because I haven't driven one.

    • @R56Cooper
      @R56Cooper 2 года назад +1

      @@CarDietrich Yes, I find that there are times that the sportage brakes far too late and follows too closely with the lead car. I'm setting the maximum "4" distance as well. Hopefully it will eventually run as smoothly as yours in the video. I took the sportage on PCH this afternoon and was not confidence inspiring like your vehicle or the Niro. Sometimes it would stop well, others not...

      Perusing the owner's manual for the Sportage, it says that the Smart Cruise will adjust its driving style based on what drive mode you have the car in. I had the Telluride in 'Normal' mode when I filmed this. If you're in 'Sport' mode try switching it to Normal or Eco, that will change its behavior.

    • @R56Cooper
      @R56Cooper 2 года назад +1

      @@CarDietrich Thanks for the tip regarding switching modes Dietrich! I had it in normal mode-- will try the smart cruise in sport mode and see how it performs. Will also check out the manual-- went for a drive today on sunset blvd-- and it performed quite well with smart cruise and following the lead car. I just wish that when rolling to a stop behind the lead car-- that it would come to a stop sooner. It seems that my niro ev's system was more in line with your experience-- fingers crossed I get this figured out!

    I have lane keep assist and lane following assist and sometimes the lane follow assist will make the car go to the edge then the lane keep assist will start beeping at the car to tell it it is leaving the lane. It is arguing with itself!

    Thanks for the video, as I want to adjust the distance the cruise control lets the car get to the car in front. It you get the distance as short as you can, I am guessing you are a danger to yourself and your passengers, if the car in front stops dead, will you? I dont think a Kia Carnival will

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  Год назад

      The Smart Cruise Control is actually pretty, well, smart, so when you use the shortest following distance it's not a fixed distance. It changes based on speed, so at 70 MPH your Carnival will leave more room between you and the car in front of you than it will at 7 MPH. It is always your responsibility to watch the road and be ready to intervene, but in my experience the car will follow at a safe distance, even at the shortest setting.

    How well does it lock following a motorcycle?

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  2 года назад +2

      Honestly its hit or miss. The Kia owner's manual says that "Narrow vehicles, such as motorcycles or bicycles" cannot be detected with the Smart Cruise Control system. The reality is sometimes it will lock onto a motorcycle and sometimes it won't, but my advice would be to change lanes and get behind a regular car if you can, but don't rely on the system to track a motorcycle. Better safe than sorry.

      This system is completely garbage! Many many people don’t want this BS system! We want the basic old school cruise control. That’s not an option on the 2023 Kias!! BEWARE!!!

    • @BradWhitmore
      @BradWhitmore Год назад +1

      If you hold the cruise button for 3+sec it goes to the normal old style cruise control instead.
      You can choose which one you want to use.

    And what are you doing with your foot(gas) during cruise control?

      I think I explained what switches to hit in the early part of the video. When using the adaptive cruise, my foot was not on the gas pedal
