Pat, I think I recognize the oil & gas guy that you describe with a second career in aviation. I am now nearly 10 years into this gig as full-time professional pilot and it still feels like that I am "only" doing my hobby, ... aaand getting generously paid to do so. One of my best decisions that I made was to take the risk and retire a little bit early from my 30 year career as Geologist of a mayor oil company (in my mid 50's), to convert my aviation hobby into a full time "retirement job" as airline pilot first and recently as corporate pilot since I passed aged 65. I was old enough to retire from my previous job and still young enough to start a new and second career as professional pilot that I hope to enjoy for many more years to come. Living the dream indeed and enjoying every moment of this journey.
Thanks for the video. I'm 51, been in the communications industry for 29 years. I'm a part time CFII with just under 1200 hours. Still dreaming of a second career as a full time aviator.
You can do it! I have a very good friend that took a 'retirement' package from a major oil company at age 54. A year later he was flying left seat for Mesa. Now, at age 65, he's flying Gulfstreams all over the world. You can do it!!
Another great video! I’m 56, retired Naval Officer (Aviation Maintenance), own my own real estate brokerage, and now currently working on my CFI rating! Not to late for this old Salt!

We’ll keep our fingers crossed your dream comes true.

Wonderful. You’re living the dream for sure.
I am 63 and got mine renewed 3 years ago. Still working a day job but being a CFI is a great gig both part time and in retirement. Go for it!
