I think Lucy told David her dream at that moment because she was probably sure Maine was gonna rip the Sandevista from his spine once he got his hands on him.
Lucy's story was especially sad for me. She says she wants to go to the Moon, but the Moon for her represents a blank slate - somewhere she can begin again. As the story goes on, Lucy's dream to run away changes to running away with David, to somewhere where they can live together, happy. She does everything she can to protect him from Arasaka but, in the end, loses him to... himself because David's dream isn't to live with her, it's to fulfil dreams of others. Ironically, he never fulfils Lucy's. In the end, she gets to the Moon, and she's got nothing she wanted.
I went into Edgerunners expecting nothing. By the end, I cried so damn much. The story is so shockingly humane and tackles so many things all at once. David's failure to find himself because he was too busy living others' dreams. Lucy's wish to run away, replaced by her wish to stay with David - something she ultimately couldn't have. Even Rebecca's unrequited love for a man who only saw her as a friend, even though she was willing to die for him. In 10 episodes, Edgerunners made me feel so much more emotion than most anime I've recently watched. It's a masterpiece.
I went into Edgerunners not expecting [Tragedy]. After [The Mom Event] i decided to ignore the blatant warning shot and kept watching. Halfway though episode 6 i finally looked up spoilers and this is the first time i see the ending. i also didn't cry on account of being mostly angry at everybody well except Rebecca
I was amazed how bold this anime was and Trigger studio for actually adapting from a failed game launch. Everything I witnessed throughout this short ride hit me on a personal emotional level. My only problem is: Why kill off Best Cyber Loli Girl?!? Rebecca was an adorable breath of fresh air and I so wanted a post-mini series of her if she survived.
Frankly? The main crew had two more survivors than I expected going into this. "A happy ending? Here, for folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people." Rebecca at least wnet down in the best dman way she ever could have: Angrily shouting and shooting at the biggest, most feared motherfucker in all of NC and not giving a single shit about who he was.
You honestly answered your question about Rebecca. Her life mattered more because she died. She loved David so much she was willing to die for him, even knowing he didn't love her back. That, and her sudden, brutal death really drove home just how brutal the world of Cyberpunk is. V: "Guess I meant, I dunno... a happier ending... for everyone involved." Johnny: "Here, for folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people."
Lucy seeing David(at the very end) is actually a thing they have in that universe. Judy mentions it in the game I forget the actual name it's called by her but everyone has a recorder badically..that's built into their eyes. They can "playback" a "clip" of certain memories and that's what she's doing at the end. If anyone reads this and remembers the name Judy calls it comment below and lemme know..hey that ryhmed.
Hahaha, I've literally had the cyberpunk edgerunners playlist on repeat every day since the anime got released. It hits so hard everytime " let you down" and "I really want to stay at your house" plays.
May be a hot take here, but this is one of those rare anime where I think the English dub is at LEAST as good as if not outright leagues better than the sub. Especially when you realize Faraday is Gus/ Anton FREAKIN Castillo.
When David and Lucy kissed for the first time, they reached the moon, he was her new dream. Thats why when she is actually there, what she sees is David. To me, this is an anime about missing the forest for the trees
oh it definitely has plot armor. there are many points where the characters are getting shot at over and over and they take the time to pull out a new weapon or something. which makes it even more unbelievable/jarring when one of them just dies spontaneously. the story itself also kind of has plot armor of sorts. it is willing to sidestep certain story elements for the sake of being depressing and it ends up falling flat for me because of that.
@@beardalaxy I don't think I'd call that plot armor, literally every single show anime or movie with guns literally always have the enemies missing, it's probably just there as a show of them getting shot at and not trying to show that they can't die.
Wrote this anime off for a while but really enjoyed the animation and art approach. Both CDPR and Trigger did an incredible job of giving a story of a kid who was so caught up in living out other’s dream that he gave his own humanity away in the process. I also wrote this video off thinking it was just going to be another person telling me that episode 6 is peak anime and that they have a Lucy shrine in their back yard. This was actually a funny video and I’m glad a clicked on it 😂
David's arc hit me on a personal level. I was not prepared for something so sad and devastating, but I loved it nonetheless. That said, Rebecca's and Lucy's arcs also got me hard. They both sacrificed so much to save him
V after learning Devid died to Adam smasher. “Kid there’s no doubt that you were special but at the end of the day you were just the MC of my life’s story’s Prologue”
I think Faraday been an simple villain only works expecially in this anime because of the context of the genre, the game/fictional universe and the city, and all these "kill or be killed" vibes.
what a fast review! I was so sad that this had only 10 ep. As you said the music was really great! I think it was the best part of the show, not that it is the only best part of this anime. And it was surprising how the studio Trigger made a R- rated anime. So much blood and it fit well.
smh this show wouldve been 100% on everything if faraday was blown up by a bomb and in the next scene the camera slowly pans to reveal half his face is missing as he tries to fix his tie
Not sure if anyone mentioned it but you asked where Keanu's Johnny Silverhand character was in the anime by the time this happens (It's one year prior to the game 2077) Silverhand is already in the brain chip made by Arasaka that V and jackie steal in the game.
The show was amazing, should have been a bit longer, and the ending hit harder than how Adam Smasher hit Rebecca. Oh, and many of the songs (for as i know) come directly from the game!
Alright man, love your content and all, but that Akame ga Kill comment is literally the first thing that came to my mind after finishing Edgerunners. Keep at it!
What I like about the anime as well is the deaths, they never felt random, (except for rebecca for me at first but I'm glad my friend explained why she had to die lel) the deaths really gives u so much impact especially maine's
my favourite part of this is anime is probably the art like cyberpunk's world looks like getting high times 100 so it getting animated is the ultimate combination
I cant get enough of Edgerunners. Incredible show and I dont follow anime at all. REALLY impressed. I love the pc game and continue to play it repeatedly. GREAT job Netflix.
great point about the music, i also didnt feel like any of the songs are gonna get on my playlist, but what are they all doing just chilling in there now? who knows how they got there :D
True but unlike akame ga kill cyberpunk built a world that justified their sudden deaths. Night city is cruel and heartless place that has no old people in night city everyone dies young just depends on how. Akame ga kill however didn’t build a world that was this cruel or unforgiving.
I am gonna level with you. This anime is painfull. I knew it would end bad, but it still stung hard. No, not because of the MC - while he was better than most, the side charecters took the cake. Everyone warned the MC "not to trust", yet they all fell due to trusting people. They always acted like they were "Bad guys", but they were not bad persons. There was arguably one that was a true "betrayer" (outside of the antagonist), and even she wanted to be remembered in another way at the end. There are multiple points of comparrision between Arcane and Edgerunners, however I seem them as mostly diffrent shows. In Arcane the main story was about family and generations, and one could see clearly how the situation could have been avoided if the charecters did X, Y or Z. In Edgerunners, the answer would be.... "don't be born here and now"
It was cool. Visually awesome and very detailed and artistic. The artists worked really hard on this and it shows. Couldn't stand that intro music but the rest was great. Quite a lot of gore, if you're into that sort of thing... maybe too much gore at times... But I absolutely hate tragedies. Begin rant: Dystopian tragedies are pointless, it starts off in a terrible state and gets worse while making you hope it will get better. And the end makes the beginning and everything else in the middle completely pointless. Why make everyone suffer so much along with these characters you made us care so much about and then destroy them all? It makes the reader/viewer work so damn hard for just another broken heart. And in this case, they were just a bunch of punk kids turned mercenaries trapped in some oubliette of a pointless dystopian world. Yes, it was a wild ride, but there is no happy ending here for anyone, not even happy beginnings! So dystopian and melancholy there was no happiness, only mediocre moments that resembled a normal life. She didn't even "make it to the moon" she was emotionally dead half way through the story and never actually returned, like the writer threw her away but missed the basket so she rolled back in over the next few episodes... Arg... I can't believe I ,,, the whole thing. So mad... You gave me something and told me it was hope, but it was only more despair... >:(
I love-hate dystopian tragedies. They are bleak and sad and go from bad to worse, but the stories they tell are different and powerful. Rebecca, David, and Lucy gave every inch of their being to a dream. It may not have ended the way they wished, but the raw power of their determination makes me feel so much emotion.
i am totally fine with tragedies, but they have to be tragic in a way that makes sense. i don't think edgerunners actually made a lot of sense... the level of disbelief that had to be suspended to think that those characters would do what they did throughout pretty much the whole anime is just too high for me. it just seems like the whole show was bleak just for the sake of being bleak to show that night city is a terrible place. it kind of reminds me of the last of us part 2, where the characters do often times make these weird decisions just to make sure the story stays depressing and nobody makes it out unless they are horribly damaged. i've always been a fan of the more, happy ending but with a tragic undertone kind of thing. the hero accomplished their goal, but at what cost? that sort of thing. i think it would have been way more impactful if, instead of lucy being the last one living, it was actually david, and he did end up getting to the top of arasaka tower and he did end up getting lucy to the moon in the form of her ashes.... but only then does he realize the actual cost of his actions.
Same, the last few episodes felt forced. Also Adam smasher while a good boss fight in the anime also felt tacked on at the very end. But I guess it was David dream anyway to go out a legend. Can’t blame his character . But they didn’t have to off Rebecca like that. And kiwi betrayal should a been fleshed out more
cyberpunk edgerunners is still one of the best new animes I enjoyed watching his neck go from || to /| |\ there was an error with the neck he ordered lol
6:54 I know the creators probably just wanted to make it emotional but.........if you wanted an alternate downer take on the ending, it could be said that when Lucy sees david on the moon, she may have started to experience cyberpsychosis from the trauma of losing everyone and is now hallucinating. You don't HAVE to always be borged out to the gills to suffer from cyberpsychosis, as anyone with cybernetics could end up suffering it given enough time, usage, drugs, trauma etc.
i think a much more impactful and more sad ending would have been david being the only one to survive and taking lucy's ashes to the moon. after all, it seemed like in general people got fucked over by him so him needing to live with that and going back to being alone after putting the people he seemed to care about in harm's way would have been a great way to wrap it up.
Idk if he’s already done danmachi but he definitely needs to check it out if he hasn’t especially with a title like is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon
lunar you gotta watch "akudama drive"!!! its cyberpunk but not animated by trigger and a waaaaay better ending(just like how cyberpunk could had ended if they had spend 1 more fuckin episode for the end...). this was a great anime and i loved every min of it except the sudden end.i can stretch out enough what a masterpiece this animu could had been if they just made the "catharsis" a bit more cathartic.
Faraday isn't the villain of the story, he is at best an antagonist. The villain of this series is... Night City. Watch the opening, and look at the "person" that kills David in it, it has skyscrapers inside. Even the megacorps, with all their power and influence thinking they are immune to all, are just another piece in the system, Night City is by itself a being an entity that feeds on dreams and aspirations and all it has to do is exist, people do the rest. Faraday is a chump.
This. The closest Night City ever had to a good end was when Johnny nuked the damn tower. The only thing he did wrong was that he didn't bring a big enough nuke.
@@magni5648 Johnny is hardly the sanest guy... but fuck man, nuking this city would be a mercy kill. Just cleanse this whole mudhole and leave it to nature to sort. Maybe then, people will finally have a chance to rebuild something that isn't a maw waiting for lost souls to feed upon.
Kinda just my opinion but i hate that a lot of people are blaming lucy for everything even though the ending was never going to be perfect, david would still have gone and did what he wanted too.
Unless I decided to do a random whole ass analysis I don't got much to say aside from The Maine comparison makes a surprisingly good bit of sense despite me never makin the same connection lol. Also I'm a bit surprised u didn't go for a "Adam Smash(H)er" joke for best girl lol(tho I'm glad u didn't cus it's a horrible joke & no I ain't butt hurt 😭😭)
I think Lucy told David her dream at that moment because she was probably sure Maine was gonna rip the Sandevista from his spine once he got his hands on him.
Well she made him promise not to kill him.
I concur it's always easier to tell a stranger you're never going to meet again

because the writers wanted people to die and forgot about rebecca's death last second so they killed her off in the stupidest way possible.

Exactly. At one point Lucy looks at David right before the scene where he gets "caught" and her eyes have little tiny red dots in them.

Agreed as well
I have to agree too. The Night City slang is noticeable too
I still prefer the sub but you right dub isn’t bad

Stick figure animation slaps ngl.
lunar you gotta watch "akudama drive"!!! its cyberpunk but not animated by trigger and a waaaaay better ending(just like how cyberpunk could had ended if they had spend 1 more fuckin episode for the end...).
this was a great anime and i loved every min of it except the sudden end.i can stretch out enough what a masterpiece this animu could had been if they just made the "catharsis" a bit more cathartic.
😂😂😂great video bro.
Well you know tanaka hacked his gun that time he fought him, and uh, he was losing it
Dub have Giancarlo as faraday btw
"Are these songs going on my playlist" Don't do that.... Don't give me hope
It is literally the one song on repeat
I love this channel
I really like adam smasher.
This is truly the anime of all time
Couldn't have said it better myself
Kinda just my opinion but i hate that a lot of people are blaming lucy for everything even though the ending was never going to be perfect, david would still have gone and did what he wanted too.
Ngl i enjoyed it and it was very surprising
Shit got me feeling so empty
That David redesign gave me timeskip franky vibes and that's not a good thing
1:23 now you are in the black list of Militech
best edgerunner review ever!
I am still waiting for lunar sama's review for arcane league of legends
Unless I decided to do a random whole ass analysis I don't got much to say aside from The Maine comparison makes a surprisingly good bit of sense despite me never makin the same connection lol.
Also I'm a bit surprised u didn't go for a "Adam Smash(H)er" joke for best girl lol(tho I'm glad u didn't cus it's a horrible joke & no I ain't butt hurt 😭😭)
I saw someone else make the joke and I try not to replicate too many people lol
Can you do one on different parts of rwby?
