    VERY important tip! DO NOT LET GO OF THE REAR BRAKE WHEN YOU'RE COMING TO A STOP. If you let go while you're sliding 90 degrees, the tire will grab into the pavement and you will be flung OVER the bike. I learnt this the hard way!

      Ain't no point in having it, if you don't. Hell, I do things like that with my restomodded Norton Commando, my dudes. XS 650, and my XS Eleven. I grew up on dirt bikes, and it translated to street bikes.
      Only ones I won't try it with are the Goldwing, PC 800, VT 1100, and the VTX 1800. Three due to weight, the other two, because the stand doesn't have a kick out tab. Yet.

    I did the sliding U-turn once accidentally while I was practicing my U-turns on my brand new 2017 Versys 650. I was just a beginner on a big bike too, though I did ride a scooter for a few years.
    I tried to do a tight one on the left side and tipped the bike in too far and it started to drop. I panicked, put my left foot down, dumped the clutch and slid the back tire (on pavement) until I made a perfect U-turn and then stood it up and kept going straight. Kept practicing for 10 more minutes and went home feeling like a pro. LOL I never tried to repeat it, but it felt dope as fuck. :D

    • @0xsergy
      @0xsergy 4 года назад +14

      @Andrew Van Dam pretty sure any bike will slide, once you're leaned that far it doesn't take a lot of power. it's just the commitment that scares me, on pavement anyway. gravel/dirt is easy.

    Okay... I'm extremely new to motorcycling and 4:10 gave me a mini heart attack. One of the most surprising things about getting big into motorcycles for the first time in my life is just how much weight the kickstand can hold. I've always wondered how people managed to lean and sit on them like a chair without worrying about falling over. Watching Ryan climb all over it too and I'm chuckling at how despite all this proof I still worry about tipping one over by breathing on it the wrong way. Or having heart attacks while simply watching him let it go mere inches off the kickstand lol

    • @ceredril

      One easy thing to give you confidence on that one is to try and pull your bike onto the sidestand.
      Stand on your sidestand footpeg and hold onto the two outmost points on the motorcycle (on a hill if that is not enough) to load the weight onto the sidestand. Same as with just putting the bike up straight you will come to the point where the motorcycle feels nearly weightless because its center of mass is above the contact point. The sidestand is able to hold the full weight of the motorcycle by itself.
      When you are comfortable with that you can turn your bike 180 degrees on it. Really gives you a feel for how much weight you can put onto it before anything happens.

    • @iceman-1987
      @iceman-1987 9 месяцев назад +3

      Depends on the bike as well. Street bikes don't have very strong side stands. So I don't try getting on the peg first to get on the seat, I don't even try to turn my bike on the stand.

    I like that ending and it makes sense.. my first bike, I dropped so many times, but I always fixed it and it never let me down.. taught me so much.. I am a very confident, pretty safe rider these days but, still have to have fun, and we learn from our mistakes.. my current bike has not been dropped, yet.. came close a few times, but all good, i anticipate the loss..
    More often than not I do dress for the slide, not the ride..
    but on a quiet sunny hot breezeless Sunday morning..
    Nothing beats a muscle shirt and shorts in southern Alberta at 90km/h.. go from a sweat to chills in minutes, stop and feel your skin trying to still run..
    I don’t know.. it’s a feeling..
    Maybe freedom, maybe dumb..
    but it’s great and I love it..
    My body my choice hah

    This makes me feel a bit better about the dings and dents I’ve already put into my bike, I’ve started at the beginning of this year on a 2002 750 Honda Shadow and have already done quite a number on it though I’d argue I feel as though I’ve grown exponentially taking risks and practicing seemingly endlessly in parking lots well after the classes, I’ve dropped it countless times and it’s 2lbs shy of 500lbs dry weight, I’ve dented the gas tank and bent the shift lever then bent back into place, everything’s good and still runs perfectly but she looks so beat up now, on the upside I can confidently pull a super tight u turn from a dead stop without putting my foot down or wobble or slow down and recorrect myself, so I guess the practice does show itself in the bike and my shame has somewhat turned to pride now, thanks
