The technique is taken directly from John Martyn (look him up playing "I'd Rather Be The Devil" live), and it's not difficult to do once you've dialled in the right tape delay.

You can see at 1:34 there are a few pedals set up, but he isn't actively using them, so just has it all set for the one song. probably running all the pedals through something like the Zoom A3 as well
