Born and raised in Vancouver, lived in Ottawa for 8 years, lived in Turkey, lived in the UK, lived in Holland been to a total of 40 countries, had Shawarma in many countries! A good one was in Valance, France as it included Brie!! I agree with this news item. Ottawa was the best! Montreal was a close second though!!!
You cant even compare shawarma from Turkey or other Middle Eastern countries to what we have in Canada. Even look at this so called pitas 😅 and i am not talking about meat at all
@@BasilMinhas what has the most seasoning and uses actual lamb. sometimes the juiciness lacks sometimes. so you kind of ponder. i love a little sweet, heat and garlicy.
@shaji6481 I've been twice, but it just doesn't hold a candle to the one on Carling. Have you tried it? I feel that the potatoes are cooked perfectly, while at the rideau location, they felt hard every time. Also, the chicken was kind of bland. I'll give it another chance, I went a couple years ago last.
@@Dogsineed The Carling one was my go to since it was closer to me since when I lived in Ottawa and it was good but the meat was always so bland compared to Rideau. Agree the potatoes were good though. Carling one also did not sit well in my stomach.
I'm from Vancouver and I've been to Ottawa once, where I had the best Shawarma in a restaurant in Canada. But the best Shawarma I've ever had is my Syrian friend's homemade traditional Shawarma.
I visited Ottawa last summer. I was looking for a place to eat, but all seemed kind of meh, until I saw a shawarma place. It was great! I didn't even know Ottawa was famous for shawarma..
Such a flavourful cuisine! On my visit to Ottawa many years ago, can confirm this. The Tim Horton's was closed but a shawarma shop nearby was open and the experience was delicious! Love it! :)
If you're one of these people who travel to eat food and enjoy culture you need to travel to Lebanon and Syria and try out the amazing Shawarma. It's so much better, ingredients are fresh and non-GMO.
The best shawarma in Ottawa is from any NEW place within 3-6 months of opening. The employees care, the food is fresh and then its all down hill from there lol. Even the Palace on Rideau is hit or miss. We have the Shawarma spots here but there is by no means an unequivocal best.
I've been to the Rideau location twice, and it was disappointing both times. On the other hand, I've been to the one on Carling dozens of times, and it is by far my favourite in the city.
I love shawarma and have enjoyed many places in Ottawa. Only criticism is how many restaurants use rice and potatoes to make the serving look huge. Btw frozen fries are inedible to us old enough to remember a time before McD’s when french fries were real!
I've lived in Ottawa for over 30 years and tried all the "big names", but to be honest the best Shawarma would have to go to Sidra Restauraunt in Oakville.
I’m Syrian and I live in Ottawa and can tell you out of the 200 places in Ottawa, none of them stand out or even remotely good. If you want good Shawarma in Canada, head to Mississauga or Scarborough.
Honestly, if not Ottawa, then where? Just look up shawarma on the Ottawa google map, where there’s that level of competition, you’ll find the highest level of quality.
Marroush's on Elgin was awesome late night fun. A Carleton U music student wrote and recorded a dance club theme song for the place, the owner would play it on repeat after the bars got out and would dance on the counter with all the drunky people, it was so much fun.
Until that last guy mentioned Saj bread I am watching this thinking you do NOT know what you are talking about...you really need to come to the Greater Toronto Area...that is where you will find excellent shawarma! Pita bread?! LOL NO, that is not good, unless they make their own Saj bread like quite a few places in Toronto do, then you are not getting quality shawarma. I am a huge foodie, and I LOVE the Halal meats a number of places in the GTA use, and the sauces, and the fresh veggies, not to mention the extras (zucchini bites, ...) ... I liked this little review but you NEED to do the GTA as IMO the shawarma we have here rocks (oh and for those who have not tried this delicious food, make sure they make their own Saj bread and use Halal meats else do not bother as it will not be good (a lot of pretenders - finally just a note, I do NOT own or have anything to do with a restaurant (nor does anyone I know), I just LOVE great food)!
I have to disagree , what is Canadian is the Donair . The first King of Donair opened in 1973 on Quinpool Rd. in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was founded by Greek immigrant and restaurateur Peter Gamoulakos, who owned a pizza shop called Velo's Pizza. The Canadian donair that is almost impossible to find now was amazing a crisp meat with garlic and a sweet sauce minimal veg .. That is as canadian as maple syrop ... This shwarma is not the same the meat is soggy the flavor is not even comparable to the original ...I want the Old school canadian donair back !
My palette may be somewhat unrefined, so your mileage may vary, but I like the shawarma plates at Station 19 in Tacoma Plaza in Dartmouth. In Halifax Tarek's is a great option and I really like Treat's café, which is found in both Bayer's Road and Park Lane shopping centers.@@noumankhan4528
Halifax is too "close-minded" for that. Guy opened a doner shop and couldn't sell. Guy switched doner to donair and business boomed... That speaks volume about Halifax people's taste open-mindness
This girl in the video so funny lol slow news day lmfao she just discovered this now Ottawa and South Keys Hunt Club area is filled with Arabs lol , I grew up near that area ,the best shawarma is located on baseline near Ikea off greenbank road its called Mr Shawarma I recommend that restaurant its always fresh , best quality in taste always amazing customer service and the prices are good , big portions of food.
