I remember I had one of those painting kits when I was a kid :D Aaawwww...the memories :) That's a really good Idea! (and noone needs to know it was a numbered paiting ;) :p Hohohohoho ) also, btw, I'll send u a picture of my bullet jurnal, it's looking Greaat :D
Painting by numbers isnt cheating. If anything it teaches you how to paint.At least I would think. That's one of the ways I learned how to paint. Either way they're still fun to do. Plus they look really cool when they're done.
As a child I did a different sand art. I used salt instead of sand and colored it with sidewalk chalk by stirring the salt with the chalk. So I didn't need to wait until it's dry and it was fun too. After stratified the salt I got a beautiful pattern like her similar sand art. It's a great idea for child's birthday
The first one painting with numbers is something I have done a lot as a kid. I would do with sketch pens. Now, that I have been reminded of it I will try it again
For those who don't want to color sand with food coloring, I seen colored bags of sand from the dollar tree for cheap. You can also get the bottles for ketchup and mustard to hold the sand and make it easier to pour into the jar.

For the sand in the jar...to make it simpler...you can use chalk and salt if you wanted and colour the salt in with the chalk...
