Laundry Rinse Products Explained By A Dry Cleaner

  • **This is not an ad*** I realize I had to cut that part of the video in order to hit the 60 second mark for RUclips
Laundry rinse products are relatively new, they came out last year, and are a bit confusing. So this is my explanation (as a dry cleaner) of them!
Basically they’re a super low pH (around 2-3) rinse product that is dispensed at the end of the laundry cycle (during the rinse phase).
This acidic formulation penetrations deep into fibers which helps dissolve hard metals and remove odors. It’s very similar to a product us dry cleaners use during wet cleaning (water based cleaning) called laundry sour.
It’s basically supercharged white vinegar that uses citric acid instead of acetic acid (in vinegar) which is much much better at cleaning clothes and is less damaging to your machine.
To use it, pop some in your fabric softener slot and ensure that the fabric softener dispense button is turned on.
This stuff is a miracle worker on synthetic / gym clothes as it helps strip body oil (sebum) which is the main cause of malodor causing bacteria.
And no, this is not an ad, but a product thats very new and beneficial!!! Plus it keeps laundry fresh for up to a day in case youre like me and forget to transfer your laundry from the washer and dryer.
I hope this makes sense / helps

If you used enough 30% vinegar to make it as effective as this downey rinse product, you probably would slowly start stripping the metal in your drum.

I think it can also clean out the softener residue that built up inside until you stop using softener.
I feel like the first load (if you have one of these products) you do after quitting fabric softener is to run it with this in the load. I would use these (washing machine rinse agent) to not waste vinegar that could be used for cooking food.
I also feel like this works similar to the rinse agent you put in dishwashers, but it's formulated to be safe for clothing and washing machines.

@@cleanfreaks YOU need to convince us that distilled white vinegar will harm the internal mechanisms of a washing machine. Many of us are skeptical and need more proof. You claimed in your video that distilled white vinegar would "screw up the internal components" of a washing machine but didn't substantiate this claim.
I've always heard the opposite, and your statement doesn't make logical sense to me. I've been using distilled white vinegar instead of fabric softener for years without any problems, and the same goes for generations of my family members. We don't have a history of washing machines breaking down. In fact, using distilled white vinegar can be beneficial for the machine as it helps clear out gunk from liquid detergents (don't use liquid detergent), reduces soap residue, and prevents mold and mildew buildup. Can you provide more evidence or clarification on this?

    • @bf3071
      @bf3071 2 месяца назад +6

@DHM91 You're absolutely correct. The person making the statement needs to provide the supporting facts. Also, adding a cup of vinegar to a wash cycle doesn't mess up your machine. My uncle is a appliance tech and he was the one who told me to use vinegar instead of fabric softeners. I'm a costume designer and I use diluted vinegar to deodorize delicate and non-machine washable costumes all the time. If it doesn't break down natural fibers in 50/50 diluted concentration, then a cup is not going to break down metal or rubber during your wash cycle. He posted ridiculous nonsense with no backup and then asked you to prove him wrong 😒😑

If you forget your stuff in your washer and it usually smells like mold or mildew and you use this:
    A. Clean your washer, you heathen.
    B. May not smell like it, but it sure will have it.
    C. You should still rewash if it’s been so long that- even though it isn't funky because of the rinse aid- it would typically be by then. AFTER, you clean your washer, though. Heathen.
Even if you don't use bleach for your clothes, you should have a bottle to run an empty cycle and clean your washer.

Interesting seeing these two side by side from a marketing and messaging perspective. “Clean boost,” to me, gives a much clearer benefit than “rinse and refresh.” Rinse and refresh sounds like something laundry detergent already does, so I wouldn’t think the cost of buying another product would be justified. Whereas a “boost” gives me something more and in addition to the detergent.

The only reason they put in citric acid instead of vinegar is it smells better. That's it. There's no reason to spend more money, as vinegar is cheaper than dirt.
Both acids accomplish the same thing. If anything, citric acid turns more compounds into goo than acetic acid, but this isn't really a problem because the soap + water washes them away.

I think this is mainly if you use a high concentrate or let it sit -- adding an extra rinse to your cycle seems like it would make any extra wear and tear from a small amount of vinegar in your wash negligible.
But if you want to be extra safe, I actually looked it up weeks ago and the main ingredient used (replacing vinegar) is citric acid - I imagine you can buy it cheaper than you can for the amount you get in the solution.
