Simple answer: a man who you can trust Long answer:the few Gangrel who seems to have his beast in check and if you're ever around him when he cuts loose, you may not be around after
@@ThePrimogen ye,beckett may have his share of blood on his hands but the dude is surprisingly not a half bad bloke, and tbh it could be argued ironicly, becketts tendency to be a magnet for trouble may relate to inadvertently being a unknowing herald of gehenna, his very presence causing chaos
Beckett is so awesome- I like that he is kind of above the typical Gangrel stereotype of being a wildling. An excellent example that shows that clans are much more than simple stereotypes for characters to fall under.
When I played 14 years ago, the larps in my city were really sticky with " their " clan books. ( buy your own ) bunch of elitist snobs of gamers. But when I told them I was a hard core Gangrel and just want their clan's stereotype on gangrels and that all, then they were very happy to let me copy a " few " sentences from " their " book. I always play the country gangrel " wildling," which was a greatly mutated chimera of a beast. All my characters always has a couple or a few dots in Acting and Intimidation so every " fake " frenzy rage makes everyone around me think my character is Wasiling. Now where some other player's character makes a Spot roll and " notice " if my character is gaining a " new " animal appearance trait, they can tell my character if " Bluffing," or they should really start making a run for it.
Well, this somehow turned up in my recommendations, despite the fact my WoD lore knowledge is pretty small and I never actually played Vampire: The Masquerade, sticking mostly to D&D.... Can't say I am disappointed, subbed and liked and even wrote a lenghty comment to feed the algorithm gods. Thanks for covering interesting subjects in a comprehensive and indepth manner. I wish you the best of luck amassing an audience you deserve, and in the mean time, I'll be watching.
Thank you very much for checking out my stuff and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I hope there'll be plenty more content in the future for you to sink your fangs into!
Beckett is a perfect example of what a Gangrel character can be. Very intelligent, clearly in control of themselves, but also clearly capable of ripping you into pieces if he ever decides to loosen up that control. A stand up guy with strong moral backbone who wants to know the nature of his kind. Too many players make their characters walking stereotypes of their clans. Just bc your character is Gangrel doesn't mean he has to speak in grunts and sleep in a cave...
Great video; funny that I just picked up 'Beckett's Jyhad Diary' and its been some of the most inspiring writing for me to get back into running VtM; Becket is probably one of my favorites right next to Lucita de Arago and Sasha Vykos.
BJD is SUCH a good book! I was reading it last year at the airport while heading home from DragonMeet and back then I was still so rusty about the meta-plot. I really need to give it another readthrough!
Nice! I happen to be creating a childe of Beckett for a game I'm going to be in, so this was a very handy, not to mention timely, video! Thank you for providing this summation.
OK SO, two things First, amazing fucking video, as always, your narration always brings an extra layer to the story mate, like it differs from say someone just regurgitating facts about who the hell Becket is for example, your story telling is amazing, Second, why the fuk did no one tell me you stream CHANGELING THE LOST, I mean, ahhhhhhhhhhh this is the series that got me into your channel, and I just found that you stream it on Onyx path twitch, and I am falling in bloody love!!!
I'm glad you like it! :D And indeed, I do run a Changeling game! I have episodes here on my channel and The Onyx Path uploads to their RUclips every now and then as well, it's called Littlebrook Reunion
@@ThePrimogen Isn't the only place he 'died' at the end of the Gehenna novel? They retconned that when they changed Gehenna into a less severe, more cyclical event (and Beckett's Jyhad Diary is canonically after that novel and setting up plot teasers for V5 lore and with Okulos, Smiling Jack and other Kindred that were outright killed in the novel 'alive' and well in it..? )
@@margisama Yeah, I'm almost positive Beckett is still around as, like you said, that stuff was retconned. Even so, there's some stuff in BJD that was sorta retconned in V5 if I'm not mistaken, so it's possible BJD is a collection of What if's that White Wolf can pick from or discard. All that being said, I really can't see them kill off a beloved, long-time SPC like him.
I'm so glad I could provide it! I'm not sure at the moment, the End Times were retconned, but that doesn't mean they're not interesting! I still have loads of Vampire: the Masquerade content to cover, so I can't promise when that will be, but I find it very likely we'll get there eventually!
Thank you! I have not, unfortunately, which I'm a little upset about; I haven't had the time to dig into the novels unfortunately or I would have been able to cover that more.
The Gehenna books have since been declared non-canon with the continuation of the plot in V5 (and in Beckett's Jyhad Diary), so I thought it would be best not to go down that rabbit hole too much, but I did mention the Lasombra Antediluvian as a sort of hint at it.
I do realize though that I am including content that has since been retconned, afaik his relationship with Aristotle isn't nearly as bad in BJD as it was at the end of the Revised edition, which I can only assume is a retcon. It's hard to know exactly what is or isn't relevant anymore, we shall simply have to wait and see if there will be return of this beloved Gangrel.
I never was a fan of Caine being the first Vampire, but with World of Darkness being rebooted with V5 that is yet to be determined, but the whole lore of their beginnings is too Judeau Christian, and I prefer the first Vampire to be a mystery. That's what I like about Vampire the Requiem. The Vampires origins in new WOD is a mystery, less is more makes it more fascinating and scary. If I had to stick with the Abrahamic origins of Vampires, then I would prefer Lamashtu or Lilith rather than Caine. It makes more sense as a storytelling element to me rather than Caine. I would have preferred Caine being the first Werewolf, cause you can do more with that angle. Where he kills his brother during a full moon, and he used a heavy piece of silver ore to smash his brother's head in, and the mark he was cursed with transforms him into a werewolf during a full moon as part of his curse. They should have gone that route, but whatevs. Here is what they could do to make Caine's story more interesting if they ever want to reveal his true origins. Since Vampires can be paralyzed in the heart by being staked, that can be used as part of Caine's curse where Caine used a wooden stake to impale his brother's heart to murder him, and to make Caine's story more modern, they can reveal where Caine is not even his real name, it was one of the many names given to him throughout the passings of time. And he was never the first murderer. There were Humans that were murderers before him and he was not one of the original humans to ever live. he was just a hundred thousand-year-old caveman that did not descend from Adam and Eve but was a Homo Sapien descendent of Homo Erectus. His goal was that he wanted to live forever, and so he sacrificed his brother to a dark entity to obtain it. That could work. Or White Wolf could do a twist where Caine is not the original progenitor but it is actually Abel. Where Abel was murdered and his body became possessed by some entity that resurrects Abel back to life where he will forever hunger for the blood of his brother's children as revenge for what his brother did to him. Or here is another twist White Wolf could do. The characters that we come to know as Adam and Eve were never Human, but were actually the first Vampires and the Garden of Eden was meant for the Vampires, not Humans who were just apes that roamed outside of the Garden at the time. So the whole book of Genesis was a plagiarism of a lost Vampire myth that got twisted around favoring mankind and not Vampires, and they can even go with God being Vampiric in its nature. That would be interesting. Whatever the Vampires origins are I hope they move it out of the Abrahamic direction and into something new where it reveals that the World Of Darkness is far more ancient and more terrifying than we thought it would be.
