Helen Hayes Honors Assembly 2019 Honors Destinee Vittone

After sustaining multiple injuries in a motor vehicle accident, Destinee was admitted to HHH on a feeding tube and trach, unable to actively use her limbs, remain awake, or communicate. Following daily coma stimulation, intensive therapy, and an incredible amount of hard work, she was able to regain much of her independence and rediscover her amazing voice. Destinee left HHH walking, breathing, and eating independently, making jokes all along the way.
For her incredible achievements, Destinee was presented with the Medal of Independence at the 119th Helen Hayes Hospital Honors Assembly on September 17, 2019.
