The Smart Apartment is the first state-of-the-art interactive model apartment on the east coast to be located within a rehabilitation hospital. The groundbreaking facility gives patients and community members the opportunity to use a variety of hi-tech equipment targeted to help individuals with disabilities lead independent lives in their own homes.
At Helen Hayes Hospital, the new Smart Apartment inspires independent living in homes where the blink of an eye allows one to turn on the television or to send a message to a loved one from a computer. Imagine opening the front door or adjusting the room temperature and the window blinds with a simple voice command, or simply lowering a closet rod to reach your clothing via remote control. While these notions may have seemed possible only in the distant future, they are available now.
As one of the country's first physical rehabilitation facilities, Helen Hayes Hospital is widely recognized as a leader in rehabilitation medicine and research, helping restore function to individuals with catastrophic injuries and chronic disabling illnesses. Patients from around the country are drawn to the 105-acre campus with magnificent Hudson River views, located 35 minutes north of New York City. The hospital is operated by the New York State Department of Health and is a member of The New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System.

I wonder how well an eye gaze system works when you have a person who has involuntary eye movement? I guess I would just use voice.

Not just for the rich. Some systems are less than you can imagine.
