$4 Starbucks coffee every day for a year = $1,440. Cut and color at $150 every 6 weeks = $1,350 Manicure once a month at $25 = $300 Designer purses and shoes = thousands Reclaiming time for yourself that you used to spend on something you hated = priceless
Paula, $300 ! Wow where do you live ? That’s so high. With tips, for wash, color & set/blow dry, it would cost me around $120. With trim ever 8 weeks, about $160. I live in NJ in the NYC Metro area but 4 years ago, I let my gray go out - retired so don’t need color now. I was rewarded with a beautiful shade of white.. I love it but need a haircut cause of Covid. Cannot cut my own hair. The other thing I really love is a pedicure at my salon. Wonderful person does a great job. Used to get three per year. Have t had one in a year & a half. Only $35 + $10 tip. Really worth it.
I recently retired and have reduced my spending drastically. I am in the process of cleaning out my closets and getting rid of lots of things I no longer need. You are very inspiring. ❤️
You are beautiful! I am still in my mid-30s but I love watching over-60 age positive channels! Many are so positiv and we younger ones can learn a lot about how to be content with yourself
Welcome. You are never too young or too old to start working to live a positive and purposeful life. Thank you so much for enjoying my channel. I am so happy that you are here.❤️
You really inspire me. I’m 61 and had become really “down in the dumps” lately. I searched for inspiring tips for women growing older. You are classy , beautiful, and so inspiring. I’m becoming a happier, wiser, and better person for watching your channel. Please never stop!
I am 32 and I adore your content!! My dad died during covid. And it made me realize how short life is. And I decided I was going to enjoy every single day. And then if I don't like something I'm not doing it!
“When I die my kids are just going to come in and throw it all away”. This is exactly what my kids will do with my things so it’s not going to happen. I am slowly reducing what I have and if I don’t want something I will give it to the charity shop.❤️🇬🇧
Charity shops are getting picky about what they accept. I hate the thought of just throwing stuff away but if thrift/charity doesn't accept what else do you do with it?
1. I have never had a professional manicure. 2. I will pay to have my thick hair cut properly. 3. I never drink coffee. 4. I don’t have a lot of shoes. 5. I need to get rid of purses I don’t use. I have no designer purses. 6. I still enjoy moving furniture around now and then. Fun! 7. I do not have a dog. Love dogs. 8. I LOVE grocery shopping! Hate to cook. 9. I rarely go out to the movies. 10. I am decluttering and downsizing my closets. Feels great!
“ Professional “ manicures in nail salons are a major cause of nail fungus * I can’t understand women who want to sober house smelling those deadly chemicals yuck
I’m 28 and adore your videos. My mum passed a few years ago and it’s really nice to have someone that shares such great advice and an awesome mindset 😊 ❤
I have struggled my entire life with my mental health.I just recently started becoming stable.I take medication, go to therapy, and your videos are my remedy. You have saved me so much!
You are 81? Wow! You (like my late Mom) look wonderful !!! I need my morning quiet coffee time every day too. I'm 20 years younger than you, but you are the example of what we should be as we get older. I was widowed in 2009, and left to raise our children. But we have been ok. Thank you for the video.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I’m 66 and feel as if I don’t need another thing. All these things have lost their meaning, and now mean nothing to me. The only thing I really want back is the ability to sit down and eat at restaurants. Meal planning, shopping for ingredients, cooking, and cleaning up have nearly sent me over the edge.
If your husband is retired as well as you, it's time he learns to cook and you don't! He may find that he likes it. In any case, you cook every other day and Sunday is a free day so you go out to eat or Saturday or Wednesday pick a day. I never cook anymore unless I want to. Ever.
I am 66 too. And I am already clearing my cupboard recently a d got rid of many things. When my Mum passes away we have to clear so much of her things. So yes, like you, I am minimising too!
Also is the question of gifts. I always ask my friends not to buy me gifts.I would rather just go and enjoy a coffee with them as I have everything I need.Do not mean to sound ungrateful, but have enoughh hand creams, ornaments, candles to last for the rest of my life. Just their company and maybe a delicious small piece of cake together is always appreciated.
Good for you! I’m 63 and still working so I love being pampered. I still feel like I’m 35 years old and enjoying it all. I get my nails done (both pedi & mani) - only takes an hour and I can work from my phone. I also feel good because I’m putting food on someone else’s table by using a few services I like. I feel sorry for so many businesses and people losing their jobs. We don’t go to the movie theatre that often, and now there’re forced to close. I feel bad for the people losing their jobs. Don’t feel bad that you did these things for yourself in the past. You did what you wanted to do and had fun. Vintage handbags bring a lot of money - your kids won’t be throwing them away!
Hi Annie, we all have our lists and they are unique to our own wants and needs. I’m not saying that this is going to be what I’m doing forever, but now it just seems right. I do still buy products from both my salon and the groomers. But my dog is so much happier now that she doesn’t have to go to the groomers. Thank you so much for being here and sharing your thoughts❤️
Your hair and you look just lovely. I'm still in my late 40's but love how your channel is so full of energy and inspiring us females to accept aging as a gift and beautiful self-learning process that is to be embraced. It's such a shame to see older women competing with 20 and 30 somethings (ie Madonna). It's so much better to love ourselves and embrace where we are on our journey. Young girls need to see more gorgeous, wise, and confident refined woman such as yourself. Thank you for starting this channel. ❤ from Brooklyn NY
You are such an inspiration! I turned 40 this year and it was a hard year for me but i discovered your videos and they honestly give me so much hope and also entertaiment and inspiration! Thank you!
I'm 60 and just started to play the harp, doing what you always wanted to do but haven't . Just do it. I did my hair myself also, turned out great! Put your money you save and take a river cruise some day. Also, this time of our lives we need to ask ourselves am I ready to meet my maker. And ask Lord Jesus to forgive my sins and take home to him. I have peace now!!! Yeaaaaaa
I’ve always wanted to take a river cruise. Thanks for that suggestion. The harp has always fascinated me and I love that music. I know it’s really difficult to do so I admire you so very much. Best of luck with all of the exciting things that are going on in your life❤️
@@lifewithsandrahart if you can sing a song you can play a harp. There are apps that teach you how to play songs note by note without reading the notes. It's by ear. You can do it! Go to Fireside Harps and get one made for you for $250 or have your husband make your harp for $160. I made mine it's easy. It has a nice sound, the sound box is a strong card board.
I bought my dream home by myself at 32 and bought tons of furniture, had whole kitchen redone, parkay floors throughout, georgeous yard with gardner, cleaning service yes I had a great job with 6 figure salary and lost it all. I had to sell everything and start all over but now I bought a cute home got rid of clutter and stuff and do the same thing you do. I bought a keurig, got a frother, stopped rearranging so funny, no more bags and shoes, cut my hair, bought special hangers from Amazon for organizing my closet and rather see the world than buy more things that really are meaningless. Simple is best..
I am sorry you lost your job at one point, but it could’ve saved your life in a way. You were forced to slow down and downsize and maybe smell the roses. If you know what I mean. I would rather spend my money traveling and seeing the world, also. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. It’s another example of nothing is forever. I’m so happy you’re you are happy now❤️
I’ve never been a hoarder. I get rid of stuff. I have to see my floor. I’m not a shopper, either. If I need something, I buy it. If I don’t need it, I say, that’s cute, and move on. You don’t have to acquire everything you see.
I agree! Maybe it goes back to growing up in a cluttered, chaotic home but I cannot stand a mess or clutter. I'm always looking at my closet and paring back more and more. I have less clothes than my husband. More stuff just wears you down.
I have natural nails and hair. I cut my own hair with quality professional hair scissors. I eat healthy and simply. I don’t eat out. Drink my own coffee and tea. I’m a minimalist and try to save money. 💕
Dear Sandra I 'm over 60, in fact I'm in the 70 s, and what annoys me is this word banded about since Covid labeling elderly people as VUNERABLE. . It has affected how young people view us senior citizens ! You may or may not agree, but I have noticed condescension and avoidance by the general public particularly young person's. , and being totally ignored, which had not happened pre -- Covid. What this has done is to pick out a certain section of society and pointed them out as to be avoided . I wonder if anyone else also resents also Only ten years ago , I swam at leas 3 miles from one beach to another ., And could cycle at least 50 mike's a day. It was suggested by this government that , we elders are vunerable, and if this were true then even the common cold , would finish us off , but that's not the case. I personally think people are being brainwashed and I see all this as a possible agenda !
@@valerieobrien5521 I TOTALLY agree with you!!! Im 55 and I have NEVER HAD SUCH A WAKEUP CALL as I have in the past 15 months. I can see the propaganda, and brainwashing from a mile away!!!👍✌️🇺🇲
I just gotta say if u have back or shoulder problems like I do, very difficult to cut back of hair! Can only get one style probably.Btw I've been hairdresser 45+ yrs.And....need my hair thinned too.
@@judycanales4767 my fabulous hairdresser told me how: bend over. Comb hair down around head. Makes a semicircle. Cut evenly around. Done. A great layered look. Easy to touch up too.
Just dropped in for the first time. Im definitely over 60. I'm so old my kids are senior citizens. Before COVID I watched and agonized over the news. No more. My son and I came up with the saying that doomscrolling only leads to righteous indigestion. I promised I would paint more and I did and finally painted a seascape that I consider puts me in the category of an artist. I've always been active either having people to lunch or going out to lunch, that when it starts back up will be severely curtailed..maybe a coffee but I can't believe the time I've gained and the money I've saved not doing this. Time is a much more important commodity to me than money. At 80, if I live to be 90 like my relatives, I've just got 120 months left to live! That needs to be spent wisely! I'm a retired therapist and always suggested to my clients that they estimate the months left and then be more focussed on how to spend them. I also decided to groom my own little puppy. Most dogs hate going to the groomers. I had no choice with my 110 lb. German Shepherd but a Maxi poo is as you said, a nice bonding time. I'm increasing time spent on the phone with people I love and some meetings now and decreasing meaningless chitchat with acquaintances. Reading more in books and on the computer much less. More time on the porch surrounded with trees and birdsong and like my friend Jerome, just appreciatin! More meditation and I've decided to journal again which I haven't done for a few years more like an old ladies thoughts on the history I've lived and my response to this journey. Anyhow, my heart hurts for 600,000 lost people but I pray for some sort of peace for their families and focus on what we might possibly learn. Enough said!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments and sharing how you have been spending the time during this Covid lockdown. You and your son have the right attitude about the news and what is going on in the world. Less exposure is more contentment with things we have no control over. I do think it’s a wonderful idea that you are journaling and writing down your thoughts. At 80 you still have a lot of time to enjoy more adventures. ❤️
@@gericolgrove380 I now avoid most "news," and have pretty much always avoided social media. I need to know basic current event, but I do not need or want all the drama and angst.
Love your video, thank you. I donated everything I have not used in two years. Dishes, clothes, shoes, purses. I gave most of my stuff away and I feel liberated. I cut my son and my hair. We have been praying a lot more.
Sadly, I realised that some people were not really close friends (I live alone and have health issses) when I was helping with rescue work they would be in touch, not during covid despite being in my vicinity. SOooo as I am ghosted, they are too. I need people who are genuine. Great video Sandra , and I too stopped a lot of those things xx
Thank you gorgeous Sandra! I am 37, a single girl, and since I was 12, did not have any "motherly" person around, so I was desperately in need of some "worthy and brilliant" advice for a lifetime. Accidentally and my most, fortunately, of course, I found you. You're a true blessing by God! Keep going on stronger and more amazing than ever. Lots of love. Nikoo.A M.D. 🙏😷💐💝
Nikeo, thank you so very much and I am happy that I can be your motherly person. I am also very pleased that you accidentally found me. I hope that you will benefit from the many conversations we have here on my channel. Love your way❤️
I’m 45 and thoroughly NEED the wisdom of my older ladies. Glad I found you!! For me, I was already a happy homebody. I homeschooled my elementary age children long before the virus hit. Grocery pickup has been a gift!! I used it prior to the world shutting down but with guilt. So it’s been a gift to consistently order online and not set foot in the store. I get back to my home and back in my garden instead of spending hours at the grocery store.
I have always thought of homeschooling was available to me when my children were growing up I definitely would have preferred it and done that. It’s so nice to have you here and you get views from younger women in this community. I really value your contribution. Trust me, I would rather be working in my garden and I would be grocery shopping!❤️
Great thing about ageing is when you can start realizing and honing in on what works and what doesn't and decide accordingly. I Agree with your sentiments dear Sandra.
Oh my goodness! I loved this video. You are my hero 😊 I am 59 and I am at this stage in my life where I feel like I need to stop looking for and wanting things to make me happy. The past year has really made me appreciate the life I have around me. I too am enjoying a cup of coffee watching the spring flowers bloom and finding so much joy in simple things. Thank you for making me realize I don't need another purse and I may never get my closet organized.... and that's OK. 😄
I have “ always “ done my own manicure and pedicure since I was a teenager ! Never buy coffee …… I make my own at home I only need 2 purses ! Not a big spender ! ! ! I do love having lunch out once in a while !
Being shopping addicted is a sort of modern slavery people accept voluntarily. As for myself, I have adopted a very strict lifestyle and the result in one word is: freedom 🤗
Totally and wonderfully empowering. 1. Stop shopping in supermarkets. I go to farmers markets and roadside stalls and trade with the neighbours 2. Buy a pair of haircutting scissors and cut my on hair. (With a few tutorials) Having fun is the new normal 🤣 3. Stop watching tv, mainstream media and all news. Use extra 1000 hours a year to study and read. Delicious 4 Stopped eating out at low grade cafes and pubs . Cooking at home delicious relishing foods and preserves. Etc Etc So liberating
Hi Sandra; what a liberating video. Thank you! I have started also to do my nails, cut my hair, color my hair, eliminate the coffee outside. I have done some decluttering of my closet and I feel fine with it. For some time I thought to get rid of my multitudes of books to be more minimalist but then I realized that I like my books ; I like to sit on a sofa with a nice cup of coffee and read a book. So they will stay. It's good to have goals but also to be realistic about yourself. Have a good day.
I did start to give a bunch of my books away that I figured I would never get to, but I still have boatloads. And I still have a lot of kitchen things, but I use them all the time and like to cook. I think it's great to just get rid of what isn't bringing value and keep what is.
New subscriber. I’m not sure how you ended up on my recommended videos but I really enjoy them. I’m 47 years old and I love your wisdom and find your videos so peaceful and informative💕
I was an essential worker this whole pandemic and treated myself with such disregard that I am now doing a reset! Thx your video has inspired me! Figuring out what to leave in and what to leave out.
I am happy that you’re thinking about that. Please don’t ever forget how important you are. Thank you so much for being an essential worker and whatever field you are in, but please be kind to yourself because you deserve it and you’re worthy of all good things that life can bring❤️
I changed my habit of not contacting loved ones unless they contact me first. I have always been nervous about talking to someone at an inconvenient time, but due to Covid, I have grown more accustomed to sending small messages to show I care. I still feel a bit awkward, but it is always nice to hear from my friends and family. I am also staying with my grandfather and learned that I love to tidy up the house! It is quite therapeutic, especially since it is normally just me and my dog in the house while my grandad does some errands. Keeps me busy.
It’s always good every day to reach out to someone that you think might like hearing from you. Don’t be shy about calling first. I am sure they always enjoy a text or a call from you. Oh nice that you can stay with your grandfather. I’m sure he loves the company❤️
Yes, I also have made changes in my life since Covid and I’m loving it! I always had a housekeeper come in every two weeks for years. I didn’t feel like she cleaned very deeply or well ...but it kept me from having to spend my weekends cleaning. After retiring I kept her on out of habit until Covid. The pandemic kept her from coming so I had to take it upon myself to do my own house work! I was shocked at how much I enjoyed doing my own cleaning....AND...I did a much better job! I decluttered and organized and deep cleaned my way through Covid and I will not be hiring anyone to clean for me anymore!!!
For me, cleaning has always been cathartic. I’ve never had a housekeeper. I knew I probably seem strange to all my friends, but I always enjoy doing it myself❤️
I have grocery store anxiety myself. My ex husband was the same way he would be in there for hours. I am 47 years old and stumbled across your channel today and I just wanted to say that you are inspiring!
I’ve been doing most of these things for over ten years or longer and most people have thought it was strange but the after effects of car accidents and a divorce make you very resourceful! ❤️
As I’m watching this, my husband went shopping ten minutes ago. He loves it and I hate it. I only go when I need to buy presents but for groceries, I write a list and he brings some more things he thinks we need. I’m lucky like you, I guess. This is the first time I see you and I don’t know how old you are but you are a very beautiful lady.
Welcome and I’m so happy you found my channel. I’m also happy that your husband loves to do grocery shopping. I am 82 and I’m delighted to have you along with us on this channel❤️
Your channel is so wonderful! I have no mom or grandmother as an example of such wise and positive thinking. And a good tip from somebody experienced and so positive is such a treasure for me. Thank you ❤️
Fabulous content, Sandra! I gave up eating out, mani/pedi, facials, waxing, hair treatments, makeup, jewelry, accessories. I am a natural beach girl at heart anyway! I gave up expensive concerts and shows. Now I hangout with my musician friends and drink water. I cut back on many things, but I already saved money by bringing water and picnics on my adventures. Now, the only money I spend is on gas at Costco to get to our local gigs here in Connecticut. We have a beautiful music community here in the lower CT River Valley that is like one big family! If you ever get a chance come to visit our area! I am aligned with you, so happy I found you!
Life certainly has changed for many of us. Working indefinitely from home, I don't need a lot of clothes, makeup, shoes and purses. I still get pedicures because of ingrown toenails. During the isolation, my hair grew so long. I like it. Maybe I will get two trims a year, but that is it. I will focus more on enjoying experiences and not material things. I am happier now, though I do miss my co-workers and friends.
I think missing our families and coworkers probably is the hardest thing during this Covid situation. I know it is for me. The positive is it has made me realize that I can do a lot of things for myself that I depended upon others to do and that I love my home. ❤️
Loved your list!! All great changes especially deciding to not organize your closet. How wonderful to take those four hours and relax and to read rather than get stuff done.
What great advice for anyone at any age! Think through the things you do on a regular basis and dump the excess baggage which isn't serving you anymore. Love it.
Sandra, I am so right there with you! After 20 years, I happily turned the grocery shopping over to my husband! I couldn't be happier with that decision, and he loves it, too. Also, goodbye to hair and nail salons. I love cutting my own hair, and I can have a new hairdo whenever I want! I also make my own wall art, so I can change that whenever I want, and my closet is the same as yours...unless I somehow get an acre-sized closet, it will always be what it is, and that's ok! No one else's business! Enjoy life, and rock on!
I am so glad I found your videos. I’m almost 45 and as I enter this part of my life I have become so much more aware of getting older. I love listening to your advice! Thank you!
Good morning Sandra. I enjoyed your video so much. You brought back lovely memories of how excited I was to come home from school and see my mother had rearranged the furniture. Cannot remember a time I enjoyed grocery shopping, I'm so thankful Jim does. Happy you are enjoying your frother. Looking beautiful, my friend. Blessings, and love..MaryEllen
Good morning MaryEllen, every time I froth I think of you! There must be something psychological about rearranging furniture. I’ll have to look into it. But whatever it was I certainly had rearranging fever throughout my child raising years. I am so relieved that I have decided not to accompany Arthur while he shops for groceries. Free at last!😊 much love your way to you and Jim and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!❤️
Hi Sandra, You are my new RUclips friend. I am very happy to find you. I am 65 years old and since I have found you I am watching all your videos and enjoy. Thank you for your good advices. ❤
I totally agree with you Sandra. Good for you. Apart from not cutting my own hair, I’m saving money on facials, manicures and not needing all the clothes I buy and don’t wear! My wardrobe was bursting at the seams and my poor husbands reduced to having the smaller wardrobe so I got rid of the stuff I haven’t worn for years and have decided to keep the classics and just add smaller items when needed. 😘🇬🇧
Ten things I won’t do anymore - love this! Giving up: grocery shopping (will continue with Instacart), shopping for vitamins and cat supplies (getting them delivered), trying to fit in old clothes (I donate them), crafts that are more hassle than fun, eating out so much, making the big holiday dinners when it’s just the two of us, lots and lots of holiday decorations, traveling for every holiday to see family (some holidays just not all), buying more than one pair of sandals per year, and having outdoor furniture. We live near the beach and everything turns bad the first year we have it. It rusts, it flies around with the wind, the paint weathers, chimes and flags are gone to heavy winds. My deck will look empty like I just moved in and I don’t care anymore. I’ll keep it clean. Nobody sits out there anyhow.
Yes, I had that same list except for the grocery store…my husband is not a good shopper for grocery’s…fishing equipment yes…grocery’s no. I have a list and just go get what I need. I also cut my dogs hair, toenails I let the vet do those. I’ve always enjoy doing my own nails, though I do like pedicures for a treat. I bought all the stuff to do my nails with gel so they dry fast and last a long time! I cut my hair short as I was letting it go gray and no longer coloring it so that was another thing on my list! Love you Sandra, keep that smile and know another follower is loving life right along with you!
Thank you for sharing your lovely realizations that bring peace and grace into your life! This pause in my life has given me time to reflect and be more intentional! Sending love and kindness to all💕.
This is the most intelligent video I have ever seen in my hole life. I keep it this simple in many things (cut my own hair, no nails, coffee at home etc). Congratulations for this video. Brillianr
Indeed, it’s wonderful to be free again and to focus on the little things that matter so much more. Very much appreciating your channel and reflection. Take care and all the best!
That's a wonderful list, and I bet Sophie is thrilled. The year before Covid I decided to stop coloring my hair and that remains my favorite thing that I stopped doing because not only am I saving time and money, my natural silver looks better. I also decided to officially quit Yoga classes just today. I used to go twice a week and it was actually making me feel worse so I'm sticking with my daily practice at home and found two people to donate my prepaid classes to. Stopped my gym membership last month. No more spending time driving there, waiting for machines, and no more member fees. I have weights at home and can exercise here. Also stopped wearing lipstick under my mask, ha, ha. Your hair looks great and I really enjoyed your video!
Thank you. Isn’t it amazing how we can rethink our lives to make it a little more better for us. Without all of the obligations we felt we needed. I’m so happy that you watched today and I really enjoyed reading your comment❤️
I have never done beauty treatments, nails etc. Ive Cut & lightened my own hair for 18 years now since moving to france but finally gave up the colour last year and am 'au natural' now. My husband is quite happy to be my shopper & will spend hours out seeking the bargains. I can go if I want but rarely do. It gives me free time! Living in the countryside we don't do restaurants & there are no takeaways so its a bbq in the garden instead. I love purses, but they come from charity shops (thrift) when I get cheesed off with them, back the go! Great recycling, the same with clothes..each to his own. Be happy!
When my son and I moved across the country, we lived in my cargo van for six weeks, and I was going to a new professional job every day. That hugely changed my mindset about how much "stuff" I truly need, because I was so happy during that time! I've been trying hard to get rid of things I don't need and as I wear out shoes I'm not going to replace them until I get down to one pair of each type.
Only getting my hair cut 2 - 3 times a year, coloring my own hair, and doing my own nails. That's what I changed starting in April 2020. I also cut way back on my mindless shopping. Feels great to save all that money.
Haven’t been to a salon since November 2019. At first I was so disgruntled but c19 has been a gift for learning what really matters - whole hearted living, gratefulness and doing everything with intention - one of the last things I desire is to declutter and minimize the areas/items that are sentimental or craft supplies that are still daunting me. Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated thank you
Oh Sandra, I love this video. I have set myself the task today of going through my closet, not organizing ,but looking at every piece of clothing and those I have not worn in the past year are going in a bag to go to Goodwill. Even writing these words makes me happy. Then the next thing is to get rid of all my purses , most of which I haven’t used in a year or more. Keep well Blessings
Joan, I found that this downtime that we have had has been a really eye-opening experience for me. I’m trying to simplify my life and save money by doing things I could do on my own.❤️
All the valid points however at some point of your life those things made you happy and feel great after all 😊 We all have to experience this on different levels of our life
I learned rearranging furniture from my mom - we were too poor to buy new furniture. So it was her way of redecorating. But I suffer for it now pushing furniture around. I also got rid of most of my heavy furniture.
I think for me, too, it was a feel good thing. I always felt so much better and refreshed when I had a new furniture arrangement. Thanks for sharing your story❤️
I stopped coloring my hair. I got so tired of doing it. Looking for the right color. Ugh. It has been hard to do but it is also very freeing. Im a year or so into it. Have cut my hair twice. My natural hair is very silver, not a bad color at all.
Growing out is very difficult and you have to really stick with it until it has grown out completely. I bet your hair is absolutely stunning. Good for you to have stayed the course to have your natural hair back❤️
Things that I don't do any more (or have cut back on): I cut my own hair, I keep thinking maybe the hairdresser could do a better job, but in reality, it looks just as good, a simple bob cut; I cook most of our own meals: I can buy steaks at the the store, bake my own potatoes, make a salad, why pay for meals I can prepare at home?
I agree! I'm never happy with how my hair gets done whether I pay $20 or $100 so I'm going to figure out how to cut it. Also, paying money for a meal I could make at home and probably enjoy more doesn't make sense.
@@melaniej.roberts206 Since we started cooking our own meals for the last year, it’s been great. I love trying new recipes and baking. Now that most restrictions are lifted, there are times my hubs ask do I want to go out, and I’d just rather whip something up myself! It’s healthier, and it taste so much better. I’ve mastered grilling a good steak too. These small things make all of us happier. Now if we could just get the rest of the world to get on board!
So true about COVID isolation. I’m not paying another gym fee ever. I’ve realized that I love working out at home. I’ve also committed to donating half of my possessions this year to charity. I have too much stuff.
I love working out at home. My son turned our garage into a gym and the entire family uses it. I’m more motivated to work out instead of getting dressed and driving to the gym. I can work out in my pjs. Also, during Covid, I’ve cleaned my closet and got rid in 3 bags of clothes and one bag of purses. I did a big closet cleanup 4 yrs ago and it took me 2 weekends to do it. The chore was daunting at first but I started with purses first, then tried on every shoes and if they’re uncomfortable, they’re out. Then continued on to one side of the closet to make it doable as opposed to tackling the entire closet. It felt good after I finished it.
Yay! I have also went back to: 1. Not getting my nails done (or pedicures) 2. Cutting my own hair again after 5 years of going to the hair salon 3. Not rearranging furniture unless I get something new that makes rearrangement necessary 4. Movies are at home now too, and the popcorn is sooo much cheaper! 5. Got rid of most of the purses that were stacked on a closet shelf and always falling off. And shoes need to be purged even more than I have already during Covid 6. I have not entertained since Covid and really don't miss it, so I decided to give away a set of dishes and extra dinnerware that I figure I may never use again. I am NOT cooking my fool head off anymore either. Lol! There is only me here and I cooked enough before my husband of 51 years passed away as well as when we were raising our 4 hungry boys and our picky eater daughter. I'm sure you have realized great savings doing some things yourself as I have. It is also freeing to have more self maintenance instead of thinking like before that we need others to care for our needs. I don't have a pet anymore and sometimes wish I did, but IF I did I know I would do the grooming myself too. Yay for you! Yay for me!
I absolutely love your list!! Regarding closets... I decided that is why closets have doors... to close! My closet gets organized and then becomes a mess. For years... maybe due to my upbringing.. harbored false "guilt" over a neat and well organized closet...isn't that completely unhealthy? Thank you for this great video!
For me...Books I get at the Library. Have been doing my own nails for years. Stopped with the magazines..a Long time ago.Diligently check reviews before I buy things. Do regular donations to Charity shops. Enjoy quality thrift stores..looking for really nice things..at great prices. Somehow it is also relaxing. You know those sponges to do your makeup...I was shocked to see them for a dollar at one of those Dollar Tree Stores. They go for up to $4.00 to 10.00. Same thing! Love your Channel..and you just seem like such a gem of a person!
Oh! Rearranging furniture - I adore doing that. It makes me feel as though I've moved house or that the decorators have been in. My mother was the same. One day I arrived home from school and could here a muffled voice coming from my bedroom. Turned out it was my mother calling for help from behind my wardrobe! She'd somehow managed to block herself into a corner when moving the furniture!
Oh no!! What would she have done if you hadn’t come home from school. Poor woman. I bet it didn’t change her though. She probably was rearranging furniture after that😊❤️ thank you for sharing that story with us, it’s funny but so much like a furniture rearranger!❤️
Sandra, you’re such an inspiration !!! Moving the furniture is one of mine. My friends used to come over and joke with me that they didn’t know if the toilet was going to be moved next because I’d moved everything around almost on a weekly basis. I’m also with you with my closet. When I find the time to donate I will, but I’m going to ignore it more. I don’t need to be perfect, I want to be kinder to myself and expecting myself to be perfect in everything just made me sad. I’m so glad I found your channel. I subbed right away. Love your positivity, inner light, and not being afraid of making changes in your life. Be well. ♥️🔆🧚🏽♀️✨♥️
Sheila I’m so glad to have you with us on this pro aging journey. As you know we talk about a lot of things that are concerning all of us. So nice to have you here❤️
I absolutely concur with everything you say!!’ Purses nails hair etc etc!! Boy am I ever glad and happy I found your channel ‼️👍….a story on my purses‼️✨✨✨later. Cheers to you‼️❣️❣️❣️
Love your list. Isn't it freeing to stop being swept away with the mainstream ideas of what we 'should' do? I so agree with the grocery shopping, I love my grocery pick up!
As a professional groomer maybe the place you were taking her wasn’t the place she should be at aside from that there are many how to groom your dog videos on RUclips you may enjoy
Covid taught me the difference between want and need. I’m self employed and took a big hit to my paycheque this year so I chose to stop all purchases other than food and essentials (utilities, insurance, car etc). Now I will question everything I buy. I plan meals around what is on sale at the grocery store. Enjoyed your video.
That's a great idea, sometimes I feel like a bully to my husband because I'm always asking "what was this for" on our online banking. But, living this way makes you realize all the waste. I tend to be rather frugal and a huge DIYer and that helps a lot. I love the slogan "use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without". One thing we did was get a freezer. Anytime our favorite meat was on sale I'd buy extra. Now because of the freezer we only buy when it's on sale.
We did too! We ended up going through about 4-5 cuts as time continued and nothing was rebounding. I even cut things that I did use but just not that much. And we've found other ways around it. I do try to shop the store circulars but with food allergy issues our groceries are still pretty high, but less than before and that includes not eating out, so more eating at home. It's amazing what you can cut and not even miss. I hope your business is picking up again!
@@gathercreatelivewithleslie8340 We definitely buy when meat hits the sales. It makes a huge difference. I wanted to get another freezer but I figured we could make do until more money was coming in again.
Loving my retirement so much in my 8th year, so grateful for my health! I choose happiness everyday! I’m 67 next month, I’m decluttering so much & feels like weights lifted...I don’t need much anymore! I roll solo & looking forward to many adventures with the cash I’m saving! I love to travel 🧳 ☮️✝️
I have just found your site Sandra, and enjoyed your video. I generally do not buy new things, unless absolutely necessary, and when I look back at what I used to buy, I am ashamed! Best wishes from Susan in UK..
Great idea for a video! Sandra, I cannot STOP the rearranging. It freshens the look and usually some decluttering goes along with that. I hate visual clutter. Lol. I do groom my 2 little pooches myself, always have. I also brush their teeth. I'm glad you started grooming Sophie yourself too! So funny about the closet. It's good you accepted the fact that "it just ain't happening". We have to accept some things we know we won't change. I do keep my closet color coded and segregated by fabric type and short or long sleeves but it still doesn't look all that organized to me. 😊💜
I know I finally just gave up on that closet of mine. Just not gonna happen, but my good intentions were there! I’m so happy to hear that that many of you groom your own pets. Sophia so much happier now that I am doing it for her. Thank you so much and I’m always happy to hear from you❤️
Hi I am 72 and I agree with you there are things that are just not worth doing... I have three purses a black one a white one and a gold one... I got rid of all of my pantyhose.... I don’t rearrange the furniture anymore because it just tires me out. I have moved it every way possible and I know the way it looks best... haven’t been in a Starbucks in 10 years at least... make perfectly wonderful coffee in my own kitchen... yes being home for the last year has definitely helped bring things into focus that we might not have thought about before... like you my husband enjoys going to the grocery store so I let him do it... your channel is lovely keep it up
All are absolutely true. I personally will consider to most of the things in your list in my journey over 60th. In addition i am thinking of donating books which I have been keeping to read it for retirement. Thank you for sharing.
I hate grocery shopping, too! My motto is "get in, get out, and nobody gets hurt." My favorite part of this video: ". . . and things that make Sophie happy!!" That put a Big smile on my face! Have a great FriYay, Sandra, and a beautiful weekend ahead!
i actually have groceries delivered! I am still working and its more expensive but it's worth the time savings for me! I love it, and cuts down impulsive purchases for me. I can work off a list and get what I need. Simpler! I also stopped coloring my hair and expensive haircuts; the cheaper places are just as good. We love cooking more at home now and since I am off 3 days a week I can meal plan and prep. Also cleaning out clothes I don't wear, giving up heels and anything uncomfortable!
I use to spend so much money on the matcha green tea frap from Startbucks, And now I make my own, I googled the recipe and it taste just like the one at Starbucks!
I am so there with you!! We are not responsible for whatever makes other folks pleased!! I have what l need and what crosses my mailbox as a catalogue may peek my interest but on the main...l am happy to cut my outside ties to merchants too!! Plus..l will never become a minimalist...but, maybe l do have too many pairs of shoes and purses!! I may start to thin those collections!! Much love and thanks....and congrats on not having to food shop anymore....l bet he is happy to be doing that on his own too...what a sense of accomplishment at 94...no hunting but still providing....lol ..
Thankyou so much Sandra this is so uplifting my husband loves to shop and go grocery shopping he goes to multiple stores and I hate it I'm not going anymore and he will be so happy💖
I am only 60 , after my father died and my mother ended up with dementia Being an only child I inherited their estate . From about 55-65 yrs my mother started just buying STUFF.. Wll I ended with all that Stuff if I wanted it.. Well I didn’t want it , have my own stuff.. made me wake up to the ridiculousness of all the crap we buy !! I dont do it, I haven’t bought STUFF in years..I refuse to spend 5$ on Starbucks , I take my lunch to work .. I realized how ridiculous we are with our spending! Its irresponsible ,especially to our environment.
Tam, isn’t it amazing how much stuff that we accumulate in our lifetime? Downsizing to my house here really made me look at all the things that I had collected throughout my 44 years in my other home. Thank heavens I don’t have room for extra stuff in my house. I don’t ever wanna go through that again❤️
Yes! After having to clean out my Grandma's house (and she was a minimalist way before it was a thing) and my father in law's house, I never want to leave a huge amount of stuff for someone else to clean out. In the last few years I have let go of around 1/2 of my stuff and am working on it continuously. It is really hard and I see why peoples stuff can get out of control. From gifts and things from other people and things that relatives are trying to give me. It is hard telling relatives that I don't want their stuff as I don't want to hurt their feelings, but I don't want to keep more things. Covid has really let a lot of people know what they can live without.
Dr. Wayne Dyer used to keep one suit hanging in his closet. It was a suit that he would be buried in one day. He took care that this was a really nice suit, but he also had cut the pockets out of it. He kept it there, in his closet, to remind him that he wasn't taking anything with him when he transitioned back to non- physical. My father used to have a t-shirt that said "He who dies with the most toys, still dies". These are great attitudes to have😊
When I underwent a financial awakening, I read the book “automatic millionaire” and it helped me get everything on automation. One of the tips was to make you own coffee. I have paired down my wardrobe to only have items I truly wear and are well made. This year I went without buying clothing, getting my nails done. I only had my hair done once. I make all my food at home and eat use instacart for groceries. Good tips and thank you!
I started having my groceries delivered in 2015 when I sprained my ankle, and continued it, because it saves so much money in the long run since you can't impulse shop. I was NEVER a person who could just stick to my shopping list.
$4 Starbucks coffee every day for a year = $1,440.
Cut and color at $150 every 6 weeks = $1,350
Manicure once a month at $25 = $300
Designer purses and shoes = thousands
Reclaiming time for yourself that you used to spend on something you hated = priceless
Wow! Didn’t realize the savings!! Not bad to be a DIY woman after all!!! Thank you so much!! I pinned this!❤️
@@lifewithsandrahart Thx! Looking at the yearly tally always helps me make better decisions and to look at my impact on the planet.
Cut and color for $150 isn’t bad. I’m paying $300 a month.

I am still trying to downsize. I have the same thing in mine as you do❤️
@@lifewithsandrahart Sandra sell those purses and go on a cruise!
Charity shops are getting picky about what they accept. I hate the thought of just throwing stuff away but if thrift/charity doesn't accept what else do you do with it?
@@rocketmom60 If charity & resale shops won't take, then Salvation Army & Goodwill take... you literally just drop it off!
My kids as well. They are not interested in anything I have collected over the years. Maybe a couple of things but, not much🤷🏻♀️
Great 10!!❤️

I was a young widow too, with three children. Actually I’m 82. Thanks for being here❤️.
I don’t like to cook that much myself. Arthur does it once in a while and gives me a break❤️
If your husband is retired as well as you, it's time he learns to cook and you don't! He may find that he likes it. In any case, you cook every other day and Sunday is a free day so you go out to eat or Saturday or Wednesday pick a day. I never cook anymore unless I want to. Ever.
@@JanineMJoi I don't really cook anymore either. I live alone so if I have a craving for something I'll make it.
I am a teenager and I am so glad I came across your channel. You are absolutely amazing!
Thanks so much!

Yeaaaaaa

Dear Sandra I 'm over 60, in fact I'm in the 70 s, and what annoys me is this word banded about since Covid labeling elderly people as VUNERABLE. .
It has affected how young people view us senior citizens ! You may or may
not agree, but I have noticed condescension and avoidance by the general public particularly young person's. , and being totally ignored, which had not happened
pre -- Covid. What this has done is to pick out a certain section of society and pointed them out as to be avoided . I wonder if anyone else also resents also
Only ten years ago , I swam at leas 3 miles from one beach to another ., And could cycle at least 50 mike's a day.

Thank you for the term “doom scrolling”.....I needed that to boost me out of that awful rut. Love your wisdom! ❤️🌹

Monique, thank you so much for sharing what you are doing in your life, too. Please don’t get rid of your books. Mine are pleasure to me as well❤️
I did start to give a bunch of my books away that I figured I would never get to, but I still have boatloads.
Welcome and thank you so much for subscribing. I’m so happy to have you here. Thank you again
Yes me too, I worked right the way through at the hospital. I have made the decision to completely reevaluate my life and what I want.
Thank you and God bless you

Thank you very much for all you did for us. God bless you
@@eileen7466 thank you so much. I wouldn't have had it any other way, but it certainly makes you re-evaluate your life xxx
I bet he appreciates it even if he doesn't say it
I don’t need designer purses anymore!!
The emails I get from coche, gochi etc, “click” I delete them. They’re gone!
I love you! You’re so cute!
Thanks so much Mel.
I am a natural beach girl at
heart anyway!
This is beautiful Sandra. Yes, making your own coffee with a hand coffee grinder takes longer yet is so rewarding and tastes so much better.
@@lifewithsandrahart Haven’t the restrictions been lifted there? They are here.
Loved your list!! All great changes especially deciding to not organize your closet. How wonderful to take those four hours and relax and to read rather than get stuff done.

What great advice for anyone at any age! Think through the things you do on a regular basis and dump the excess baggage which isn't serving you anymore. Love it.
Less is more is my mantra. I think it’s serve all of us no matter how young or old we are❤️
I still love rearranging my furniture! It makes everything feel new again!
I miss that!! It made everything new!
At 30 I left an office and 3wks vacation. Removed the pager..radio..bra..watch..makeup...let my hair grow and never looked back
LOL!! What can I say. Good for you❤️
Sandra, I am so right there with you!
Kaye, LOL! Sisters! Thanks for sharing. It’s about time we let go of the things we don’t like doing and never will do! ❤️Sandra
I am 72 and a Pastor. Lady you simply rock. God bless you. I was clapping with glee as I heard this
I am so glad I found your videos.
Hi Sandra,
You are my new RUclips friend.
That’s exactly what I’m doing. The freedom of not having to worry about things I don’t really need to do has been wonderful❤️
Thank you so much for sharing the things that you have been doing we’re not doing since lock down. I really enjoyed reading it❤️
Yes, I had that same list except for the grocery store…my husband is not a good shopper for grocery’s…fishing equipment yes…grocery’s no.
Thank you so much Karen❤️
I absolutely adore you! You are such a great role model for all of us who have been seeking " permission " not to do and buy things anymore.
I think Covid has made us think more closely about our lives
This is the most intelligent video I have ever seen in my hole life. I keep it this simple in many things (cut my own hair, no nails, coffee at home etc). Congratulations for this video. Brillianr
Indeed, it’s wonderful to be free again and to focus on the little things that matter so much more. Very much appreciating your channel and reflection. Take care and all the best!
Thank you so much❤️
That's a wonderful list, and I bet Sophie is thrilled.
Be happy!
I cleared out my closet and just kept what I wear all the time...lots of room in my closet now
Good for you. I wish that I could do that, too❤️
I really want to do that, too, because like many of us, I wear only a fraction of what I've got. You have helped motivate me; thank you!
Anne, isn’t it amazing when we’re forced to live with little how much we realize that it’s possible. Thank you for sharing what you are doing.❤️
Yes it's like redecorating by moving things around makes things fresh it's like cleaning the draperies after the winter
Only getting my hair cut 2 - 3 times a year, coloring my own hair, and doing my own nails. That's what I changed starting in April 2020. I also cut way back on my mindless shopping. Feels great to save all that money.
When I think of all the money I saved, it makes me feel good, too.❤️
Haven’t been to a salon since November 2019. At first I was so disgruntled but c19 has been a gift for learning what really matters - whole hearted living, gratefulness and doing everything with intention - one of the last things I desire is to declutter and minimize the areas/items that are sentimental or craft supplies that are still daunting me. Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated thank you
@@chelleward780 Take a picture is the new advice...and then donate/trash/give away. Craft supplies to a church.
I’m trying to simplify my life and save money by doing things I could do on my own.❤️
All the valid points however at some point of your life those things made you happy and feel great after all 😊
We all have to experience this on different levels of our life
First time listening to you, you are amazing. I am just a youngster at 63 years young.
LOL! You are a spring chicken! Thank you so much for being here❤️
I learned rearranging furniture from my mom - we were too poor to buy new furniture.
All things that you said are true. Home is where the heart is for many things❤️
Awesome. Good for you. Thank you for sharing what you’re doing❤️
Yes! No fancy gym outfit, no driving over there and go at your own pace.
@@lifewithsandrahart And thank you❤️. Your channel truly inspires me.
Talking about purses!!! And, we only carry the same one, okay maybe two. Why do we hang on to all those beaded bags!
Yay for me!
Yea for us independent women!!! ❤️❤️❤️
AHH THIS IS THE MATURE LADIES time to BE JUST ME MYSELF and I moment 👵💖
Might be good to save one . MILLIONs are abused and then killed every year in the us alone
That is all completely joyless!! I'm sorry for you.
I finally gave up on my closet😊❤️
Be well. ♥️🔆🧚🏽♀️✨♥️

Love your list. Isn't it freeing to stop being swept away with the mainstream ideas of what we 'should' do? I so agree with the grocery shopping, I love my grocery pick up!
I am so done with trying to keep up with the main stream and things that I should do, aren’t you. Free at last😊❤️
I love the “mommy & me” time for Sophie! I would never make her go to the groomers if she hates it so much. So happy for both of you.
I think most of us are all home can you check on services and material things. A lot of us have revisited the way we were spending our lives.❤️
We love to travel, too! Rolling solo is a good thing and women shouldn’t fear it!! ❤️
I have just found your site Sandra, and enjoyed your video. I generally do not buy new things, unless absolutely necessary, and when I look back at what I used to buy, I am ashamed! Best wishes from Susan in UK..
Susan, I think it’s really true the older we get the smarter we are❤️
Sandra haha I’m totally adding the closet one to my list 😅 it’s been on my to do list for YEARS! Lol sayonara baby
Thank you so much and I’m always happy to hear from you❤️
Sneakers with dresses has to be the most brilliant fashion evolution! So glad I’m here for it.

Well now I know that I’m not completely off-the-wall!❤️😊 thank you so much for sharing that with me today❤️
Hi I am 72 and I agree with you there are things that are just not worth doing... I have three purses a black one a white one and a gold one... I got rid of all of my pantyhose.... I don’t rearrange the furniture anymore because it just tires me out. I have moved it every way possible and I know the way it looks best... haven’t been in a Starbucks in 10 years at least... make perfectly wonderful coffee in my own kitchen... yes being home for the last year has definitely helped bring things into focus that we might not have thought about before... like you my husband enjoys going to the grocery store so I let him do it... your channel is lovely keep it up
Suzanne, thank you so much for sharing what you have been doing in your life. I think the Covid situation has made us all kind of rethink our lives❤️
All are absolutely true. I personally will consider to most of the things in your list in my journey over 60th. In addition i am thinking of donating books which I have been keeping to read it for retirement. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you fir sharing today.❤️
I hate grocery shopping, too! My motto is "get in, get out, and nobody gets hurt."
My favorite part of this video: ". . . and things that make Sophie happy!!" That put a Big smile on my face!
Have a great FriYay, Sandra, and a beautiful weekend ahead!
Oh that’s exactly the way I shop. In and out and I’m finished.❤️
i actually have groceries delivered!
Oh that’s a smart idea. Thank you for sharing❤️
Much love and thanks....and congrats on not having to food shop anymore....l bet he is happy to be doing that on his own too...what a sense of accomplishment at 94...no hunting but still providing....lol

Thankyou so much Sandra this is so uplifting my husband loves to shop and go grocery shopping he goes to multiple stores and I hate it I'm not going anymore and he will be so happy💖

My husband also, but NOT ME !!!!!!!
I enjoyed your list of 10 things never to do again we all have them,Getting busy on mine great wisdom Sandra

These are great attitudes to have😊
@@LindaKayHolevas So true.😊👍❤️
When I underwent a financial awakening, I read the book “automatic millionaire” and it helped me get everything on automation. One of the tips was to make you own coffee. I have paired down my wardrobe to only have items I truly wear and are well made. This year I went without buying clothing, getting my nails done. I only had my hair done once. I make all my food at home and eat use instacart for groceries. Good tips and thank you!
Grace, I think we’ve all reevaluated how we were living during this pandemic.❤️
I started having my groceries delivered in 2015 when I sprained my ankle, and continued it, because it saves so much money in the long run since you can't impulse shop. I was NEVER a person who could just stick to my shopping list.
