Thank you for this Sandra! I just recently had to start traveling alone again for work (hadn’t done so since Covid started), and I was surprised how nervous I was. I am 62 and much prefer to travel with my husband, but it is time for me to venture out again on my own. A couple of things that helped me a lot: I arrived extra early for everything and gave myself more than enough time at airports and car rentals, etc. I only took carry on so I could avoid any potential mishap with my luggage (and I didn’t hesitate to ask for help in getting my bag placed overhead- it was never a problem!) I accepted my nervousness and practiced deep breathing every time I even began to feel anxious; that was a game changer. I also accepted that flights are no longer necessarily guaranteed, and was ready with alternate plans if the need arose (it didn’t, but it sure felt great to have a backup plan). I also found a lot of help online in researching the airports and transportation I would be using, basically getting a preview of how each location worked. That helped a LOT. I know this is a very long post, but I wanted to share because I am happy to report what you say is true - I came back feeling invigorated, refreshed and more “able” and ready for my next solo trip next week! Many thanks for all you do, and much love to you and your beautiful community! 🥰

    Good morning, Miss Sandra.
I so agree about taking even the smallest escape. I take 1 day a week out to my favorite coffee shop & browsing/ shopping. If my husband is home to hold down the fort & care for the animals, I take at least 2 day overnight at a hotel in a larger city just to breathe and do the things I enjoy. Sometimes he takes a long weekend to his brother's in Oklahoma.
Women are not the only ones who need a break from 'every day'.
I'm planning a two-week trip to the East Coast. I've always wanted to visit Salem Mass. and see some of the area. I also want to return to northern VA to research a book series.
Sending Good Vibes to your granddaughter's team.
    Save travels & Blessings!

Kelly I was born and lived South of Boston until I married and moved to Northern VA . My husband worked in Chrystal City and I worked from home for a large Commercial Fire Insurance Company. May I ask what you are writing about? I am an avid reader and my biggest disappoint is when a book is based in a city with no factually background information to support that location. ❤

I sooo enjoy solo travel. It allows me the freedom to just be in the moment without constantly being concerned about the welfare of my travelling companion(s). The freedom to spontaneously change direction, to speak to the locals with no time limit, to go off the beaten path, to explore. I even do local day excursions where I act as though I were a visiting tourist in my area. Routine happens and I go to the same restaurants, the same stores, etc.. Just planning a day to do everything different in one's own area can be amazing.

YES! I'm so happy and proud for you to be the strong woman you are! You inspire me more than you know! I have a van that my husband has fixed up so nicely for us, but mainly me, to travel and I plan to start a business which requires me to travel but I need to be in a vehicle and this is like a camper. It has air conditioning and heat, a refrigerator and a cooktop with an oven to boot! Not forgetting the best which is so comfortable! There is even a Natures head toilet which I'm honestly not thrilled with, but it's there. Even an outdoor shower, but when I'm by myself, I will just buy a Planet Fitness pass and shower there. Now, if the price of gas would only go down again, I'd be set! Thanks again for encouraging all of us out here. I know I'm not the only one. You are a Queen!

Sharon, you're 100% right about those memories being created, not only for Sandra's granddaughter and family, but for others in attendance. There's something priceless about generations of family members participating in loved ones' events. In the 1990s at a State Final High School Football Game held in a university stadium, had the privilege of watching an elderly lady being tenderly escorted along the concrete bleachers by her two, also-gray-haired sons. Following them was their very large family, each one doing the job of assuring Granny was seated comfortably. EVERYONE was wearing school colors, Granny as well. It turned out she was the Great-Grandmother of the quarterback. In that moment, it was easy to see how her presence contributed to her family's joy. Sandra's presence will do likewise!

LOVE this Sandra. Travel has always been important to me, other than the pandemic, I've always managed to squeeze out a trip or two a year...usually to visit friends or family.... but I've always felt it a bit of an indulgent luxury and occasionally even felt a tad guilty about the money spent...thank you for opening my eyes that travel truly is self care. For me, travel energizes and inspires me, helps me gain perspectives, and just overall widens my horizons. My favorite job was one where I traveled once a month to Oregon and Washington State. I learned that going for a happy hour or dinner alone (which I always avoided) really is enjoyable and when you are alone I found I tended to meet more people than if I were with a group of friends. Even when travel is not an option, I have revisited Julie Cameron's Artist Way where she recommends at least once a week do a solo outing to refresh and inspire. One of my favorite "Artist Dates" is just going to my local green house...the warmth, the scent and the gorgeous plants just make me happy. Since I've retired and post pandemic, travel is at the top of my list. I have to say, one of my favorite parts of travel, is that no matter how wonderful the trip is, it always feels so good to come home to my little dog Bozlee and my sweet little cottage with a refreshed appreciation for home. Have a wonderful time with your daughter and grand daughter. Go Pioneers!

It's my loss of companionship and loss of self confidence. Thank you for taking this issue out of the personal to the universal; my anxiety is shared and I find this comforting. I've changed a lot in the last two years from changing the furniture around, changing banks, taking up new activities, reaching out to others... First of all Sandra, I want to say you are so beautiful inside and out. I am 66 and I know many would think I'm stuck in a box. I have the most wonderful husband of 47 years who loves to go places. We have, but since Covid I have become so content being at home. I'm at an age where the friends I used to hang out with, their husbands are retired, so life is different now than several years ago. This may sound odd to some, but I don't mind going on a trip, but after a couple days I'm ready to come back home. Someone once told one of my siblings who is the same way, that it had to do with our childhood. We did not go anywhere except for church. I don't know if I will regret it when time goes by. Thanks for the content. I wish you well and admire you for who you are.❤

I am the same way But as a child we traveled and moved so much and my husband and I (he passed in Oct 2021 traveled as well before we had children I have no desire to travel I love being home with my fur babies and feathered babies and my plants and garden in the Spring At times I do go out for the day which is a big deal since I am almost 60 miles from the city and I am more then happy to get home No matter what anyone tells me I find traveling very exhausting and yes I am in good health I could travel now but just am happy being home (: My concern with all influencers is that people will think there is something wrong with them if they do not do this thing or that thing If you are happy then you are in the right place
      !

@@lisamac8503 I have often said the same thing. Packing and getting ready for a vacation exhaust me. I consider myself also as a young 66 year old, this is the way I have always been. My sister and I have said we have to get home to rest up from vacation...lol. Yes, I do think some people find it strange if you're not big into traveling, but I look at friends who go on vacations and cruises all the time and with other friends, but that's not my thing. I think the bottom line is that we are all different.

I have an idea! Would you consider doing weekend 'meet ups?' You could visit a place for a weekend and let others know you will be there. You could have a couple of things planned - meeting at a restaruant or a bus tour of the city or whatever - something commercial that we could book independently. Then anyone who wanted to join you and like minded people could show up and get to know others. What do you think?

I’m 63, female, never been married although had a domestic relationship before and other relationships. Currently, in a happy domestic relationship with my BF. I’ve always been very independent…sometimes accused of being “too” independent but I’ve always loved doing things on my own like going to a movie, a show, restaurant, cruises, traveling. I even practice bowling alone….LOL😂! Even now when I’m in a relationship, I still need “me” time. It’s just the way I am! I went on a cruise with a few ladies but got my own cabin! I do things with my partner too but he understands that I like to “galavant” now and then! I encourage you to try it…it’s so freeing. Best wishes!💕

Thank you, Sandra. You are so right about the importance of travel. Travel, as self care, does interject fun and adventure into our lives. But equally important, I think, is it increases our self confidence and it makes us more well rounded and more interesting to others. Trips can as simple as going to new shops, museums, restaurants, etc. in our own town. Or, Day Trips to other towns. Or, longer trips to more 'exotic' places. Sometimes I have to give myself a push and I'm always so happy I did. I loved your granddaughter's basketball picture and I'm looking forward to hearing about your Dallas trip!

Sandra, you look absolutely beautiful today. I love seeing you and hearing your tidbits for living more fully. Thank you. I love to travel and have done it solo for over 25 years. Unfortunately, right now, I don't have the funds for traveling. And, like you said, I'm watching my pennies very carefully. I like to take myself to a local nature area to hike and enjoy the quiet. I live in PA and there are nice areas that are about an 1-2 hours away for a day trip. I have signed up for yoga classes and art classes and it helps to meet other people. I look forward to checking the links you've mention to this video for travel groups. I appreciate your enthusiasm, honesty and inspiration. Have a good week and safe trip to TX.
