Good evening Sir. Always glad when one of your videos comes up in my 'Recommends'. Nice to spend time on the water with you. I've been lucky enough to have gotten out almost every day for the past four days. Still no fish - over 20 varieties in those waters and none of them are taking what I'm offering. I'm determined to crack this. Any hints that could help? Little so-n-so's are nibbling the worm off my hooks... lol. It's a heavily fished spot, out behind the Parliament Buildings. Gorgeous view - I've seen everything from otters to weasels to osprey to dragon flies... right in the middle of the city. Guys regularly show up there hunting for Musky. Which they claim to have actually caught there... I'm fishing on my Grandad's gear - hollow fiberglass rod with a cork handle, Mitchell 300 reel, 10 lb line and I think I've run through just about every combination of fishing jigs, right down to worms. Ah well. It least it gets me into some semi-tamed nature. Tight Lines. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Are you fishing on the bottom? In shallow water? If you're using a live worm, maybe try with a bobber. That way you see the bite vs relying on feeling it or them hooking themselves. Also, it's nasty business, but you could try chicken liver if you want to catch catfish. It has to stay cold or you'll lose that faster than your worm haha. Chicken liver has been automatic though, in my experience.
@@BassSniper The water is relatively shallow and then goes super deep super fast - there's a sharp drop-off in depth about 4 feet out. The NCC, who manage that bit of land for the government, did some major renovations to the space last year (while shortening the depth of the dock I'm fishing from). They used a combo of dynamite and heavy equipment to make the area over a few years back. So I'm dealing with space where the underwater greenery has been disrupted a whole bunch of times this past decade. There is underwater vegetation but there's also large boulders - like, hook one and say goodbye to your jig. That being said, I've been experimenting with gradually adding more weight to the line to try and get more of the bottom covered in one cast. It's a strong current and relatively fast moving water. Deep green in colour, so there's zero visibility until you're a few feet from the dock. I know there are fish there. Seen them surfacing and they are big enough to keep. Chicken liver, huh... The Chinese market up the hill sells them by the foam tray. Bring them home, freeze them on a cooking tray, bag 'em and bring them down to the dock in ziplocks... that may help with some of the nastiness. The next experiment begins... Thank you so much. Tight Lines, Sir, tight lines.
