My compliments for your work Rick Hotton Sensei. I'm a Goju ryu practicioner and I love this video because you understand perfectly what is the essence of karate and you transport that to your style. Congratulations.
Zé Mário sir you are a true martial artist giving that type of humbleness and humility I congratulate you because so many people on the comment section love to just make someone feel bad because they can't exercise their own diminishment of their ego you became a great inspiration to me to do the same when I see somebody on here making the bad comment I want to go to war with them automatically instead of just enjoying the technique when I read your comment it allows me to go back in and keep myself from roaring like a lion and instead just wanting to make sure that my training and my belief Within Myself my spirit is strong and not someone else's comment through your fantastically amazing wonderful comment that you made to Sensei Rick Hutton makes me not only respect him the respect you too but there are good martial artists out there thank you sir
Exceptionally advanced training here. A wave of momentum....the cracking of a whip. I had no idea that Shotokan practitioners knew any of this. It really impressed me. And this instructor teaches very clearly. If you are his student, you are very lucky.
@Jam AK 4 years of southern Kung Fu, mostly forms from Hung Gar. Then 4 years of Ba Gua. That's where the internal study began. Then on and off training in various styles of Kung Fu. Most of the truly advanced training came from sharing techniques and theories of movement with other Kung Fu experts. Never studied Karate other than studying DVDs. No experience in Jui Jitsu or Judo.
I've been teaching this principle since the day I became an instructor. It makes me feel happy to know that I'm not alone in this way of thinking. I don't teach Shotokan, but I teach this principle in my own style.
Da Vinci: "Everything is related to everything else". I've shared several of Hotton Sensei's links with my colleagues in Chayon-Ryu. He is the Mikhail Baryshnikov of Karate making what he does seem effortless for the same reasons. And to quote Michelangelo, “The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material.”
i'm not a fan of shotokan, even with its Japanese masters but Mr. Hotton gives a whole lot more of atmosphere to Karate that's so fascinating to me personally. What a great master
his way of expressing his self makes it easy to understand the biomachenices of the movement which creates energy release and a recoil action very impressed PAUL PERRY was the only person who tough this way 29 years ago but you are the closest I have seen to him you are good
The most beautiful form of martial arts is the flow. When the body flows, it connects to the Earth. The Earth supports us, allowing us to live well, it is also our greatest ally to generate power. Harness the power of the Earth just as you harness a sword or staff; it is your greatest source of power after your core.
Awesome speed and power in all techniques . I'm an ITF taekwondo Teacher and we do something similar called, Sine Wave. What I found amazing about yours is the lack of mechanical pattern ( the # 1 followed by # 2 motions or start and end)..is fluent, explosive and very powerful. Great!
do not forget, the actual karateka that went thru 10 black belts and starting his 11th that looks brand new. He might actually be the one to watch out for. some "black" belts have ONE BELT for 20 years. Depending on material, the belt Disintegrates or shreds , IT DOES NOT WEAR EVENLY LIKE I SEE MOST OF time on most "masters". (experienced karateka knows what i am talking about).
that means nothing... some high rank Black Belts like to have a belt in good condition = buying new ones after they become "white", also many wrought black belts are made from silk = they become like that very early - the belt means nothing, a 1st Dan is only the beginning of a long journey, it's the skill that shows who's good or not
I am surprised! A lot of what he talks about with internal I worked on with Taiji And Xing Xi! Much respect for him. I live in Spring Hill FL. If I lived closer to Sarasota I would definately look into classes!
Osu sensei Arigato on the knowledge I love your videos because truly they've helped me a lot and when I see your power and relaxation it motivates me to train and keep on trying to improve osu
I love how he references Goju Ryu, he's on point there I really feel those black belts should have engaged more, from what we can see here they just stare basically at him as he tries to explain and say oust!
The wave starts from pressing down on the hara and the hara pressing on the ground. The ground then returns the pressure upward and though the punch is my take on the teaching
my name is Lamont and I'm.a green belt and I trained under the best Kioshi George Wilson and out of my years of training I got to admit I like Mr hottons style
Pinto San Good observation. Even though he developed his karate in USA and, to the best of my knowledge, not from Asai Sensei, he certainly does have a similar way about him. The one thing I spotted were his feet. Both guys have the same shaped 'flexible' feet. Don't you think?
Don't hit with nkute if you didn't train your finger. I did with little force to soft part of a sand bag and i end upp with mallet finger😅 it is not painful but it take months to recover. It takes too long to recover. Skip nkute😅.
I like the detail of your techniques and the mechanics of them, but please tell me how they would work against anyone on the street who knows how to fight?
I did shotokan for 10 years, we need to change the focus off perfect form to self defense again. Use head gear and proper sparring gloves. Add in throws and grappling. This is the modern world
All these philosophical analyses are very controversial. It is true that older Okinawan styles use many "esoteric concepts", but any benefits derived thereof are counterbalanced by the techniqes of more modern and efficient styles.

@@theredninja2817 I love and respect Rick Hotton sir from the bottom of my heart. He has the outstanding amount of knowledge and sense about karate.
This is truth over here . Love the power and the knowledge that he's preaching
Radu-Cristian Boanca, Can you explain your thinking? thank you

I am definitely enjoying all the videos from this sensei. He is articulate, sincere, passionate and spot on with his demonstrations.

Wow! Beautifully explained the essence of REAL KARATE ...it’s not the shape but the feeling and connection! Mucho respect sensei!
A true karate master. I would love to train with Hotton Sensei.
what a great teacher. There aren't many of them. So thanks for uploading.
He has so much to teach that he never stops passing on knowledge. Its often too much to absorb in one sitting. Mind blown.
Cose he is making shit up, it's all useless anyways..

This guy is great. His teaching is Gold. Shape vs connection. Oss

Great lesson Sensei Rick Hotton! I don't know why all the Karate Dojos teach this? Thanks a lot from the very core of my heart :)
+Asif Siddique Many instructors would not have his level of knowledge or experience.
Thank you for sharing. Beyond excellent.

Can't say it enough....rick hotton sensei..thanks for true bushido...beblessedalways
A black belt doesn't scare me. A black belt that has been worn so much that it is white scares me.
WaywardBrigand He bought it that way lol
Chokwe Yes he did I sold it to him

Man, that's a good instructor. I've trained wing chun for 6 years and I see lots of simularities.
That is growth
Same in Bujinkan, glad to see we're all talking about similar things

I think the Sensei here and Dr Oz have the same Barber.
What a lucky yellow belt. What they learned is the 'high' stuff. I hope they can understand that.
