I live in Greenville, South Carolina, and visit Asheville from time to time. I found the Greens Creek and Reed Creek Greenways to be spectacularly uninteresting. But the French Broad River Greenway - on both sides of the river - is very interesting and a lot of fun.
Looks like a great day! Thanks for sharing!
We carried our kayaks from Alabama, up to Asheville in 2020 to kayak to French Broad and actually stopped for lunch at Hominy Creek. That was a fun little trip! Enjoyed the video! Thanks for sharing!
There's now a large stretch of greenway on the OTHER side of the river from where you rode - across from the Wilma Dykeman Greenway is a new path that goes past New Belgium and down to the French Broad River Park. Check it out next time!
Very cool.
Asheville was not exactly #1 on my list for greenway riding, as I didn't think they had anything notable. I'm happy to see I was wrong, and that I will be planning a trip there, thank you Nathan. Also, whoever thought of converting the speedway into a velodrome deserves to get the Nobel Prize for Making-the-World-Better-Thru-Bicycling. What a genius idea! Is it just me, or does it feel like the bicycling world is going thru another golden age?
I’d say Asheville is an emerging resource for greenways. If you look at their map and see what’s in progress, it’s a lot. I personally am looking forward to that extension north along the river.
Poor walkers and runners. Path needs to be widened to separate bikers.
It didn't strike me as a narrow path. But, you'll be happy to know that there is actually a section along the river where there are two paths. It's actually the first time I've seen something like that.
