Comparing Goalie Pad Sizes from Different Brands

- 34+1" goal pads are not all alike. Even if you switch models within the same brand you may need a different size!
If you're shopping for a new goal pads, you might have the right size in mind (did you see last week's video?) but did you know that sizes do not compare perfectly between brands? Some knees are higher or lower because of things like boot flex and angle. Most stock pads are +1 but a couple of companies make them +1.5 or even +2 for retail. How boot channels are constructed can change how pads sit on your skate and thus the effective size on your leg. These are but a few examples, with several more in the video.
Woody and Cam take you through 9 different pads to give you an idea of what to look for when you get your next set of pillows and how your next set might need to be a slightly different size than the ones you are wearing now.

@@thehayes20 They are still a thing and would be great to consider in a future video. We looked at the stock pads in all cases but on custom orders you do have options, depending on the company and they can affect how they sit.
Great video. And damn this is difficult nowadays. It is so hard to order pads now from abroad, cause sizes arent the same any more. Hopefully I can order right size pad when I replace my Brian´s Gnetik3 36+1 to newer models.

Looking for the best of all worlds…, lightweight, excellent sliding, easy strapping and flexible (easy to get back on feet)
I believe I am a mix of hybrid and butterfly
Currently in a 35 S2 pro and find the knee stack super hard and somewhat stiff (takes a little effort getting up) …maybe to high thigh rise? Knee sets perfect in stack.
Thinking maybe a 34 would work better for me, but still tossing around between Hyperlite, Eflex 5, Vaughn or Warrior, any assistance/feedback/recommendations is greatly appreciated…or should I call?

I've been thinking of switching from my 11 year old Reebok P4's to the new Warrior line and I was curious what the size comparisons will be. I'm assuming the old Reeboks are pretty similar in sizing to the newer CCMs so it's basically I'd need 31+1 or 31+1.5 in Warrior, same as my old P4's. I don't know if my local shop will get any new Warrior Ritual G6 Pro+ in for me to try on. I appreciate the video guys! Thanks!

Now, I wear a Vaughn SLR 35+2, where I had been 34+ in previous Vaughn. Love them and will likely stay in the SLR series. Thanks for the great comparisons.

I have ccm 4.5 33+1 and looking for bauer m5 or 3x... should i go wirh medium to match my 33+1 or small will be equal ???

I wear a 35+1 CCM Premier II and want to switch for a Bauer Pro 2X. Shall I go 36+1? I had some Bauer Reactor back in the day and I remember them being pretty short in contrast to my normal gear..
Well Bauer doesn't do regular sizing as you probably know from the video - just S,M,L,XL. With those 35 P2's likely fitting on the large side you'd be at least a Large in Bauer - probably - but as. always....really best to try some and see what's best with your setup.
I’m currently in Vaughn V6 pads 35+2. I have an opportunity to move to True L12.2 in a size 34+1.5.
The only thing really keeping me from going for it is my worry of the trues not fitting right. I don’t have any shops near me to try a set on.
How would these two pads compare?

I wear 33+2 slr2 carbon/v9, Bauer M in 2x pro, warrior 33+1.5 and I need a LG in Hyperlite to fit the same. It is interesting that the slr3 fits smaller at the knee then the v9

Are you sure you're a 33 in warrior? I wear 33 warriors and bauer M were definitely too big. I demoed 33 SLR 1's and I thought they were too big also. 33 warriors are perfect for me (I've had G4's and GT's both in 33)
@@bfish9700 Yes Warrior G5 33+1.5, Vaughns 33+2 and Bauer 2x pro Medium all fit roughly the same (vaughns sit higher on thigh from the +2) I needed a Large Hyperlite and assume LG Mach to fit the same as previously mentioned. Only Pad I am confused on is the SLR3, I need to see if the boot has a pillow to raise it up, according to everyone i would need a 32+2 to match the slr2 at 33+2, however, in the video side by side with the v9, i would stay the same.. The warrior knee at 33+1.5 was slightly shorter on me then the bauer M, but over all height same. Its funny because the warrior side by side with the vaughns on the ground next to each other , the knee stack was like over an inch taller. At 1st i was like WTF no way these will fit me, but they were actually smaller on my leg... my floor to knee is 20 and I like my thigh rise to be just below my pant segmented hip protection.
Do junior pads as well?
Should be similar but we cn look t that in a future video perhaps...worth calling Cam to check!
How would the Optik match up to the CCM EFlex 5? The boot is porbably different between the Optik and G-Netik, plus the Optik is a stiffer pad.

Cam says.... " Sizing is hard to gauge as stated because the optik is much stiffer and straighter. Looks to be an inch bigger however definitely give me a call on this one."
I just order the PX3 but never got a chance to try them on. The place I ordered from sized me in a CCM Eflex5 33+2 should i go 34+1.5 in px3 my floor to knee is 20.5 but if I go from the inside knee to outside floor I’m 21?
Honestly the best thing is to chat with Cam.
In case anyone finds this video because they're considering a switch, here is what i found. Coming from 34+2 Eflex3, single external break, lace toe ties with 3" of slack. I jumped into a Med 5x pro and because of strapping they sit at the same height as my EF3. In the butterfly i notice there is less five hole coverage in Bauer and am playing around with toe ties to compensate.
In EF3 i landed low on the knee block which is a symptom to longer toe ties. In Bauer i fall just above the center and should fix the coverage issue with some strapping adjustment.
Being a CCM fanboy i wanted to try a different brand and am not disappointed with the advancement in tech and materials, even in a price point set of Bauer.
I know it might be viewed as pointless, but have you folks considered weighing all the different brands? Is Bauer the lightest?
If I have a 33 eflex5 right now and I want to go up a size but I want to order true should I get a 35?
We still think it's important for you to try some on to be sure. As you'll see from another commenter here, and what we talked about on the Podcast, the boot channel construction on the True could potentially make it still fit similar to EFlex.
I have Vaughn V8 pads 35+2 what should I go to for 12.2 true

The knee pad is def important that it does fit you but I can’t stand playing in pads where the thigh rise is too tall to where the pads interfere and overlap too much and I feel like I can’t move right or there too tall even if the knee fits I wish it more standards
Hi my son has ccm 4.9 pads 31+1 and he's 5 feet 7 and I want to know if 33+2 vaughn would be good for him
Really hard to say just on his height. Please call the store and they will be able to sort things out for you I'm sure!
I'm so confused. I wish I lived closer. I'm in 33 warriors now, I think 33 Brians fit me well but I'm thinking I'd need a 32 in the SLR 3's. I've worn bauer mediums but they were definitely too big, I wasn't hitting the knee landing.

True L20.2 and Axis boot channel are flat. Guys wearing 35 or 36 are going to 34+2. I dont know about the L12.2 but you should ask before buying or you gonna get a pad much taller than what you tought. Sorry my english suck :(

I have a son he is having Bauer ultrasonic size large. Now he switch to ccm. Eflex 5. He would like to have it shorter than his Bauer. He is 186 cm and from knee to floor he is 50 cm. What size in ccm e flex 5?
