Slow Blues with a Stride Bass - 1920s Style Piano Blues by Ethan Leinwand

- Here's a slow blues improvisation in C, using a striding bass pattern with the left hand. Much of the piano playing in the traditional jazz and classic blues from the 1920s used this kind of left hand rhythm. This tune is an example of barrelhouse piano because of the low down blues feeling, the changes in rhythm, and a comparatively simple harmonic language.
I'm borrowing some melodic material from Cow Cow Davenport's amazing "Dirty Ground Hog Blues."

As a non musician, it’s a form of wizardry to me how the left hand can do something completely different to the right and make it ‘work’!
It’s amazing what you can train your body to do! Sometimes the trick is just getting your brain to stay out of the way!!
