It's usually the best option to punish unsafe moves that weren't parried.
He does view Lucina as slightly better than Marth in Ultimate and gave solid reasoning for it: certain characters move too quickly for Marth to consistently land tipper (particularly Pikachu and Chrom) so Lucina does more reliable damage output in these MUs since her blade has no sourspot.
It should be noted for dash dancing and foxtrotting, you have to return the stick to neutral between dashes. The motion is right, neutral, left, neutral, right... not left, right, left, right.
"The speed of the depression isn't as important as the quickness of the realease", that's what he's trying to convey. However poorly he worded it, that's what he means.

Another thing that's interesting to note is that while pivoting you're also considered standing except for the purposes of grabs. So you can do something like run, pivot, and immediately ftilt the direction you were originally running. It sounds like it'd be the same as crouching or letting the stick go neutral, but you actually retain a little bit of the momentum of the run based on how fast you input that tilt after you pivot. So, you can actually do a sliding tilt attack, which is a really cool mixup.
I mean, there's really no reason not to learn how to shorthop properly. I think you're overestimating how difficult it is. It won't be too big of a deal if you don't, but you might as well learn it properly as it's a good habit. Plus, if you go back and play older smash games, the shortcut way won't work.
What I was trying to say is that you can do a sliding tilt attack out of a run. Let's say you're running right. While running right, tap left so that your character turns around. But, instead of letting your character turn around, immediately input any tilt attack. Instead of turning around, you will do that tilt attack instead. Nothing too special, except you also slide the way you were originally running while you perform said tilt attack. It's basically equivalent to tapping down while running and then tilting, as Zero explained. But instead of tapping down, you tap backwards, and this allows you to slide while you're tilting.

As a more casual smash player I just wish you could assign short hop to a separate button. I can't for the life of me do it fast enough especially combined with a neutral air while running. Wear socks on hardwood (preferably properly treated to avoid splinters) or tile floor, do a short hop in a direction and try not to move your feet when you land.
Cool note is that if you have two jump buttons and press both, that is a short-hop. Jump+jump is a useful shortcut for short-hops that doesn't force you into one action or another.
For people trying to B reverse, it's important that if you're trying to b reverse out of dash, make sure you quickly reset the control stick to neutral before flicking it to the opposite side after you press B

MrServantRider short hopping is just muscle memory. I'm a melee player so since some short hops are 3 frames in that game (just like ultimate) i just practiced it until i mastered it. Just keep practicing and you'll get it
MrServantRider I used to as well. Time is literally the only barrier so don’t worry. Practice in short bursts and get your fingers comfortable doing that motion. Deep sleep is also important because that’s when your brain likes to remember stuff more.

*WTF I just discovered something I haven't seen anyone do... You can perform smash attacks and tilts with the grab button... By running and doing a double pivot and grab. You can also short hop aerial with jump+grab...*
why did they have to make the short hops so god damn precise. like in other pltformer games when you hold it it goes the highest and when you tap it, lowest. here you have to almost tickle the button the right way and fast enough too. oh well maybe I'll learn it someday but doing it perfectly in real duels is so hard when it's almost impossible in training too to get it out right 100% of the time
Dude thank you so much for all these videos. I'm a fairly new player and I would have picked up so many bad habits had you not shown the correct way from the start. Love these videos.
A quick tip I found myself when doing short hop, and its ridiculous how they set it up, is that you can just press both the jump buttons at the same time (x and y on the switch controller)
Regarding short hops, you can also perform this by pressing 2 buttons keyed to jump at the same time. Since I map the grab command to y on the pro controller, I mapped the right bumper to jump so I can press x + right bumper to short hop
Why is marth, roy, lucina, and chrom so freaking fast when walking. Actually now that I think about it, fire emblem doesn't have vehicles and the infantry class always walk around their damn country
They do have cavalry though. And Wyvern riders. And Pegasus riders. Also the animations for the lords typically have them moving fast. Robin actually was a bit slower in Awakening so that is why Robin is slower here.
@@YourCrazyDolphin Wow, I actually didn't realize Chrom's speed growth was 60 while (default) robin is 50, good point. Although I don't think Robin having the slowest running speed in all of Smash 4 is justified by that...

Actually the game does, in the tips, the original direct, AND if you go searching the game's archived tips it will also let you find it. I found out about most of the tech from direct and found them again in tips.
Some tricks are actually found by the playerbase, and they might not even be completely intentional in the first place. The game ended up being super technical
@@eldonwijaya3879 right but it tells you about short hopping, crouch canceling, I wanna say DI, dash tilting, etc. This game in particular I should stress. It's the belief of many that Nintendo wanted to make the technical side of the game more accessible.
I actually noticed in training that you don't need to press down at the peak of your jump to fast fall, you just need to press it AFTER the peak of your jump. Tested by jumping really high on a map off the stage, and pressing down after a second or so of falling. The difference is significant, because it means that spamming down to fast fall works, and timing doesn't really matter, and you can initiate fast falling in the middle of your fall. I don't know how it was in earlier smash games, since this is my first, but this seems to be how it works now.
So for those prefer to use the switch controls sideways such as I. If you press the Y&B(red controller) or the Up&Left arrows(blue controller) at the same time you will perform short jumps guaranteed. Also it makes the back dash attack so much easier to do but if you really want to use the back dash hot that Mr. Zero was showing then use the Y&X or Up&Down since not only will you do a short jump but you will also the attack automatically. All you would really have to do is move the analog stick in the direction you want to swing your attack. Another thing, for a charge forward you can press the X&A / Right&Down button to perform a charge forward attack without even touching the analog stick. Just FYI for those who use the sticks for couch play with friends and stuff but don’t know how to taunt. Just click in and hold the analog stick and press any of the letters/arrows and that’s how you do taunts.
Zero explains why the movement tech is useful, what you can do with them and perhaps what situations you'd want to use them in. These concepts are covered in the video.

2:30 - Fast Falling

Easiest way to short hop EVERY time: i set my RB button to Jump and reassigned Grab. If you press the RB and Jump button simultaneously, it always does a short hop!! Idk how or why nobody ever told me that. Hope this helps! Made my life wayyy easier
I have so much trouble doing short hop consistently.
MrServantRider short hopping is just muscle memory. I'm a melee player so since some short hops are 3 frames in that game (just like ultimate) i just practiced it until i mastered it. Just keep practicing and you'll get it
Alot of people struggle with it at first keep at it you'll get it down
Thanks guys, I'll keep practicing!
MrServantRider I used to as well. Time is literally the only barrier so don’t worry. Practice in short bursts and get your fingers comfortable doing that motion. Deep sleep is also important because that’s when your brain likes to remember stuff more.
*Raid* ummm not all were 3 frames, only some 🤓
Thanks to you, Armada, and Leffen I've been getting better really fast at this game, it's honestly amazing
Awesome guide!
This video is so helpful. Smash ultimate is my first smash game. Keep up the great content.

Instead of that u wold put
PERSONALLY I 6:35 THE AIR
“It’s not about the speed of which you press the button but it’s about pressing the button & letting it go quickly”~Zero
No shade, much love I played you at SNS(2?) the one in Gurnee, IL
I just got smash (came from brawlhalla... don't shoot) but I'm trying to learn how to play. Any guides?
this channel has some guides. But just research " smash ultimate basics " and you'll find some.
btw, welcome to the smash community
brawlhalla sucks
Art of smash of Izaw is really good :)
REAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
yo thats nice, hope you have fun
Beefy smash doods is pretty good. Jtails too
i was waiting over a week for someone to finally make this guide yay
Is anyone else having problems with turning their characters around? When I am in a fight and try to turn around my character is usually end up running in that direction by accident. Is there some sort of trick of doing it or do I just have no fine motor skill whatsoever?
its just practice no real trick just dont slam your stick all the time
Get faster.
Honestly, Thank you so much for making this video like this. I am brand new to smash and I am thoroughly enjoying the game but this video really helped me a TON. Thank you!
*WTF I just discovered something I haven't seen anyone do... You can perform smash attacks and tilts with the grab button... By running and doing a double pivot and grab. You can also short hop aerial with jump+grab...*
I do that by accident sometimes. I've actually gotten quite a few KOs that way. Was really confused as I was trying to grab
Thanks for making these videos. You're a good teacher too. You explain all these techniques in a very short and concise way

If you can’t get the timing of letting the button go you can always press both jump buttons and get the short hop 100% of the time!
why did they have to make the short hops so god damn precise. like in other pltformer games when you hold it it goes the highest and when you tap it, lowest. here you have to almost tickle the button the right way and fast enough too. oh well maybe I'll learn it someday but doing it perfectly in real duels is so hard when it's almost impossible in training too to get it out right 100% of the time
get good
@@thenumnums aye
@@mitchellsidebottom9271 nah fam just tap jump like a normal person
Dude thank you so much for all these videos. I'm a fairly new player and I would have picked up so many bad habits had you not shown the correct way from the start. Love these videos.
7:47 Listen closely
A quick tip I found myself when doing short hop, and its ridiculous how they set it up, is that you can just press both the jump buttons at the same time (x and y on the switch controller)
Just change one of your shield buttons to jump so that you press attack and the trigger at the same time which makes it a short hop ariel
@@Cmcang yes but I like hop dodging as well so I want it more versatile
Oh how the best have fallen
Regarding short hops, you can also perform this by pressing 2 buttons keyed to jump at the same time. Since I map the grab command to y on the pro controller, I mapped the right bumper to jump so I can press x + right bumper to short hop
Why is marth, roy, lucina, and chrom so freaking fast when walking. Actually now that I think about it, fire emblem doesn't have vehicles and the infantry class always walk around their damn country
I mean, it makes a lot more sense than Robin's walking speed in 4...
@@joelgoetz1145 I was referring to their animations, not their stats.
This is the first time Ive watched you ZeRo, and Im surprised by how upbeat, entertaining and informing it was. Liked and subbed! Same with your Twitch!
Please do a "How to Play Zelda" video.
holy shit you've posted the same comment like 5 times chill out
I'll chill the fuck out when he makes the video lol why do people hate zelda so damn much bruh
Ashton Roberts buddy, he aint gotta make the video lmao, getting angry aint gunna make him do it
Ashton Roberts In my opinion not enough people with play Zelda. There’s better characters that are worth making a video for
Just wait for Izaw lmao. His character guides are infinitely more informative than ZeRo's
I get that loads of people prob ask these questions and looks dumb stupid but u will never find some big content producer make a tutorial so thanking u for the community
Who else knew all of this but watched the whole 22 minutes anyways?
How could I know all of this I only played Smash 3x?
Its always good to review fundamentals
For short hops + aerials you can press X & A together which is really helpful
I see what you did there. You put yourself in front of lucina's icon
ZErO for playable character when??
I've said it before and I'll say it again - Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge, Zero! Hugely appreciated.
thanks. If only the game explained these things...
Your spacing and movement is godlike, every time i watch and then try playing i can never move exactly how i want
He put marth in the clickbait!
Marth... in the clickba- wait what even. It's called a thumbnail. And where's the clickbait..?
I'm being honest you are one of the only ones who actually teach me how to play the game I don't have
Tap jump gang where you at
Here
Zero himself is one
melee niggas are actually fucking insane. tap jump hurts my brain.
@@vain.a coming from melee I can't get myself to turn it and smash stick off it's do foreign
Thanks for explaining. Very practical guide not just the move list.
Does anyone else notice that there is a little more input lag in this game or just me
There is an entire video on GigaBoots' channel measuring the input lag, it is 2-3 higher than melee. It's not just you.
Beat me to it exceed
could also be your TV
@@stickyblanket feels the same in handheld mode as it does with GCN controller. Still more lag/buffer than Melee
Thank you for the tips, I really love the stage and the amazing music from Castlevania.
Necesito este vídeo en español 😣
Yo te lo traduzco Liquid, pero no me actives el Metal Gear que me caliento.
*Insert funny and original comment*
Unoriginal
teaching zero is the best zero
Thank you so much for making these tutorials, very helpful for those of us always wanting to get better!
Bro this helped so much thank you
A lot of this technical talk goes over my head but I do like that you used Lucina so Thumbs Up :)
