    When you're sewing a binding in the round, on the initial seam you can start sewing an inch or two along and stop an inch or two from the end, then you mark an overlap point, match the two loose ends of the binding right sides together lining up the mark you just made, stitch either straight across or turn them 90 degrees and sew on the diagonal (right from overlap-corner to overlap-corner), trim and press the seam open, and then go back and complete the initial stitch in the round. This gives you a continuous loop of binding that's always the right size and has a perfect join with a minimal amount of bulk..

    Anastasia, thanks for this tutorial. I made a knit dress and I used bias binding for the armholes but it did not turn out well. The armholes were way too large - I thought that it was my error in using a cotton bias binding with a knit, but now I realise that I probably wasn’t careful enough and I stretched out the armholes. It was a sleeveless dropped shoulder dress, so perhaps I should trim off the tape and start again, I just haven’t picked up the courage yet as I thought I would make a bad situation worse. I have been wearing the dress under jackets or sweaters. 😅 Now, if you could do a tutorial on how to correct that, that would be fantastic!

    • @daxxydog5777
      @daxxydog5777 10 месяцев назад

      I would think making self facing/lining might correct that, if you have enough fabric, or make the bias binding from your fashion fabric or another knit fabric. Knits are harder than wovens to sew, but easier to fit! After taking off the bias binding, you might be able to shrink the armholes smaller with steam.

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  10 месяцев назад

      Steam is a great idea as mentioned below. The woven bias facing works on knits as long as you don’t stretch the knit as you sew & you need to keep in mind that’s its stabilizing it so you will no longer have stretch in the area at that seam but it’s not like you want your armholes stretching out. You could also created a full facing as mentioned below.
