Surat is no match against bombay. Most of these diamond traders live in south bombay and the vibe is complete different compared to rest of india. These people dont even consider other parts in suburban bombay good enough to live which are much happening than the poshest areas of surat. @@utsavbhayani7456 The plan is not to move business owners to Surat, the plan is to provide office space to traders who have to go to Mumbai for trading. @@utsavbhayani7456 you completely misunderstood the situation. Most of the diamond traders from Surat had to depend on third party traders of Mumbai for trading so they had to travel to Mumbai for business deals because Surat was not providing same services but now instead of depending on Mumbai, traders from Surat can directly do business without any travelling. 90 percent diamonds are polished in Surat so instead of increasing the travelling cost of diamonds it is much convenient to do business where they are being polished. Diamond trading is a huge ecosystem where thousands of people of different levels provide their expertise only few traders live in Mumbai who can afford luxury houses in Mumbai 90 percent of work force like dealers, brokers, salesmen and technicians and quality control specialists are already living in Surat.

Great for Gujarat and Surat. Trying to develop their economy. Every state should get their fair share in development.
As a Maharashtrian, to all the Gujaratis, Maharashtra is the most economically developed and highest contributor to GDP of our country. Maharashtra and Mumbai can’t be defeated and even compared to your Gujarat. We contribute most to the country.
Before reading the comments I was supporting the government for its efforts but now my mind has changed. You are all jealous because we are way ahead of you. And if you say Gujarati are contributing more to our state, firstly ask yourself, why they came here in first place. It’s because we gave them the opportunity, and strong base to prosper.

Airport is nearby but it has lot of problems.
Present runway is 2950m but only 2250 m is operational due to buildings on city side. Proposal is to extend it towards the sea side but ONGC underground gas pipeline is obstruction for it. Hence, runway extension is hindered and only 2250 m runway is available for aircrafts to land from city side.
Only one international flight Surat-Sharjah is available which flies on 3 days a week.
International flights to Dubai, Singapore and Bangkok are necessary for diamond and textile industry. But Surat - 8th largest city is not included on bilateral agreements for international flights. Hence, the foreign airlines willing to start international flights can not start it. Our own airlines not willing to start service and giving argument that Dubai airport is not giving slots, However, at the same time they have started flights to Dubai from other small cities like Indore.
