We come inside the room when they announce the winner. (2020 edit: Okay, I don't think it was live, but I distinctly remember coming home from school and seeing this. I mean, it was 14 years ago.)We saw these guys. "DON'T YOU DARE CHANGE THE CHANNEL, DAD!" I yelled. "WHO ARE THEY?" @@qq84 well, their victory seems to be legit, because this format is unusual for this show, and I guess it consolidated the rock fans(even those who were indifferent about this show previously) all over the Europe to vote for them
Actually the jury creates balance because ethnic groups more often prefer their mother country (just analyze audience votes over the years). Therefore smaller or less populous countries like Finland benefit from the jury. Russia nearly won that year with a song probably no one here remembers.
This is where Finland really f*cking got it right. Going to an international pop-contest with a *metal* song pretty much makes you the ultimate dark horse.

That's bullshit. Finland had a national selection with four semi-finals in 2006. Lordi were declared winners during the final show, who would have called them if they all were in the studio at the moment?
oh, in Russia we was really confused because second that time was our Dima Bilan :) but I remember when i asked friends about this, they all give Lordi the audience award xD
As a Greek the funniest part was that at the time the goverment planned to score extra points by having an extremely populist member to give the award to the winning artist but when Lordi won that politician backed off acting scared😂
As a Finnish person, I'm not even surprised that they made the all time point record (in the old system). They are simply the most awesome and creative band to have ever been on Eurovision
Stunning Nicholas , they are just stunning! Lordi outfits should become Finnish national costume in celebration of this victory. Before this some of us Eurovision fans thought that folks in Finland greeted each other with ' Pump, pump' thanks to Freddie & Ystavat. After this we knew that you rock . Long live Lordi & Finland!
I was born 2006, same year as Lordi was in Greece rocking the Hard Rock Hallelujah, now Lordi is one of my idols, and now I have a signed cd disc from them, (this Hard Rock Hallelujah album) (Edit. I didn't even be one month old when Lordi won it.) My friend; if you read this, thank you for that signed cd coming true.
Every European country: We should really try to do something different with our act this year Finland: We have resurrected Satan and his minions and asked them to perform
He nailed it - in full costume. Surely the greatest Eurovision victory in the history of the contest. Heavy metal never won before - and hasn't won since.
Mai Nem No other song comes close of being the greatest win ever since 1. Finlands first and only win ever 2. The song plus performance is the most unique and not a typical love song that eurovision always has. 3. They are dressed like monsters and managed to win 4. Only Rock song to ever win 5. They broke the point record by a mile (until norways victory in 2009) Only song that can compete with this is Fairytale and in my books it still takes an L from Hard Rock Hallelujah
FMM8 Actually, the previous point record before Lordi, was held by Ruslana, with 280 points. Lordi got 292 points, which means that Lordi got 12 points more than Ruslana. I wouldn't say we broke the record by a mile. But other than that, hell yeah! :D
Mr. Lordi was invited to the president's palace for independence day celebration that year, like all the most important and honoured people of the year are. It's the Finland's most popular tv program of the year, the president shakes hands with all his/her guests and their avecs and then they eat, drink, talk and dance to the late night. Mr. Lordi didn't go, because the dress code didn't allow him to wear a mask. He was really principled to not make his real face and name famous. He would only talk to the press with the mask on in English with his monster voice, or in Finnish turning his back to the camera. The media eventually found out who he was, but I bet people who don't know him in person don't recognize him on the streets. (I wouldn't) He's a private and quiet man. Since the storm went out, he's been able to do what he wants, with his music and otherwise. We don't know really anything about him, like we tend to know way too much about other artists' lives, especially those who have won big competitions like this. I was a big Lordi fan in 2006 when I was 9, and for a few years onward, and I read everything there was to know about him, and everything is pretty much mentioned in this post. Something about that privacy and humbleness begs respect.
In Finland we had saying "Hell will freeze before we ever gonna win the Eurovision contest." Up to date 2006 we had one 4th place from late 70's, not much more. Well 2006 was Lordi's year. Lordi had released album before Eurovision in Athens early in 2006 and they had a song "It snows in Hell." It must have been an omen of some sort.

Never for me life I will forget this. This moment was crucial into my current taste in music.
2006. Me and my brother (both 15) come home from school. Dad is home and watching the tv.
"WHO ARE THEY?"
The very next day, me and my brother are listening to Hard Rock Hallelujah three times in a row and discover they made more music.
"The Arockalypse" was the very first CD me and my brother bought together.
Now I listen to Iron Maiden, Metallica, Disturbed, ACDC, the Scorpions, Bon Jovi and lots and lots more.
But this was the beginning.
I love Disturbed! Sons Of Plunder is my favourite of their songs.😆
So, what’s your fave Metallica’s album?

If you ever have a bad day, just think of this.
Someone had to go up after Lordi.
In the semi-final that was the Netherlands, they finished 20th out of 23 countries and did not qualify for the final. In the final Ukraine was performing after Finland, but they did pretty good, finishing 7th out of 24 countries.
They should play this on every Eurovision, just to show everyone how it is done.
Lordi played this song at Eurovision this year.

This was my metal awakening. Changed my brain chemistry forever when I watched this in 2006.
i miss these days, where public votes actually had power and not the jury.
Who knows if they did, maybe it was fake.
If they competed with this song today they wouldn’t even place second, max top 5.The jury usually picks the most generic pop sound in the top.
@@user-rk9no9rw9q was about to crucify you, then i reached the end of your comment. yes, i concur
@@qq84 well, their victory seems to be legit, because this format is unusual for this show, and I guess it consolidated the rock fans(even those who were indifferent about this show previously) all over the Europe to vote for them
Actually the jury creates balance because ethnic groups more often prefer their mother country (just analyze audience votes over the years). Therefore smaller or less populous countries like Finland benefit from the jury. Russia nearly won that year with a song probably no one here remembers.
This is where Finland really f*cking got it right. Going to an international pop-contest with a *metal* song pretty much makes you the ultimate dark horse.
It's technically not a pop contest, but that's what most contries enter with. Dark horse nonetheless.

No other song comes close of being the greatest win ever since
1. Finlands first and only win ever
2. The song plus performance is the most unique and not a typical love song that eurovision always has.
3. They are dressed like monsters and managed to win
4. Only Rock song to ever win
5. They broke the point record by a mile (until norways victory in 2009)
Only song that can compete with this is Fairytale and in my books it still takes an L from Hard Rock Hallelujah
FMM8 Perfect 👌👌👌👌
FMM8 Actually, the previous point record before Lordi, was held by Ruslana, with 280 points. Lordi got 292 points, which means that Lordi got 12 points more than Ruslana. I wouldn't say we broke the record by a mile. But other than that, hell yeah! :D
It's among the best. I also like 1963, 1965 and 1974.
And you shouldn’t have won with this crap !!!
Bosnia should have won with LEJLA SONG , and everyone knows it !!!!
