You really have to appreciate just how honorable M'Baku is. He could have easily taken the herb, whooped Killmonger's ass, and taken the throne for himself. But he knew T'Challa was alive, and stayed loyal to his king and his country despite the differences the Jabari have had with the rest of Wakanda. He really is a great ruler
@Frank Fraser Apparently, you haven't seen the movie. In their first fight T'challa didn't kill Killmonger when he had the chance because he wanted to spare him. One was fighting to subdue, the other fought to kill.
I think he didn't think it was worth risking his tribe to take the throne. He repaid his life debt but didn't want to get drawn into the fight because he and the tribe were content where they were

I grew maaaaad respect for M’Baku during this scene. Rather than taking the Herb, defeating Killmonger and taking the Throne for himself, he brought them to T’Challa and allowed them to heal him, knowing he was still the rightful ruler of Wakanda and the Throne was not his to take. It takes a truly honorable man to follow such convictions. Mad respect for the Gorilla King💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Not too mention that even though he said he wouldn’t give up his army to help T’Challa. He still pulled up with his people and gave them the business, in addition to vowing to protect T’challa’s mother with his life. M’baku is a honorable man, and despite his differences with T’Challa and the other tribes. He would have made a great king and would die for his people and wakanda.
I love how M'baku, upon seeing the flower and hearing their desperate cry for help, almost seemed like he was hit with an epiphany. His tribe had for so long been at odds with the rest of the Wakandan tribes yet he and his people were considered to still be among them. Having not been killed by T'challa and being told how his own people needed his leadership he sort of came to the sudden conclusion: "they are willing to let me rule Wakanda because I am still one of them, but what right do I have to the throne when the rightful king still lives." It's not really the life debt thing that gets him to do it, it's the honor that the Wakandan people have for so long been bred to adhere to, to trust in their leadership but to also question who and what they are truly capable of. It's about admitting to himself, that deep down, he truly holds deep respect for T'challa and his leadership.

1:14-1:23 is one of the moments that stood out to me in this movie because of the display of not only different outlooks but also certain power possessed. Throughout the movie, you see the power and outlooks T'Challa and his family have that is passed down through various generations and challenges of old as well as the power and outlook Killmonger obtains through all the hardships and trials he fought and killed through. Their ceremonial challenge without the Heart Flower power, it was clear that even with T'Challa's special training for the role of Black Panther (it shows in one of the comics I read, don't remember the issue), it was clearly no match for a U.S. soldier but a black ops mercenary as well. The focus of those two powers make others forget about the other person who has their own power and outlook on the whole situation without any bias. M'Baku and it shows. In the Jabari court, Ramonda states her son was murdered in the ritual combat. M'Baku asks if it was fair, when affirmed, he states the situation as it is, "It was less a murder than a defeat." When Shuri (I love her) spoke out of turn to retaliate his statement, he shuts her down with a slight lift in his voice and reminds her that this is his court, not hers or her family's. He has lead his people without help from Wakanda for years and has only recently been acknowledged as a leader by the protagonist. Even after that happens, M'Baku sticks to his guns and remains unbiased about the whole thing while still maintaining his honor. I know people talk about the Vegetarian bit, which is funny. That wasn't the main takeaway for me. Hope what I've written make sense. let me know if it doesn't.
Don't look at it as ❤️ break look at it as her settling for the one of the two evils evil number one allowing a long time rival to rule you or an outsider to kill you
She was offered the role but she turned it down because she was already doing a movie at the time. Would’ve been a dream come true to so many ppl that always thought she was perfect for the role
I love how for all the technological advancements they have, at the end of the day, Black Panther is brought back to life with the help of a mortar and pestle, tools from the Stone Age in Africa.
Just wish we could see Chad come back to life like this. I cried for the first time in 2 days after being in denial today. I heard his voice. Saw him in a clip and was so happy to see him but the minute that clip ended I was a wreck. Reality set in and it hurt like a bitch. Just wish there was something that could’ve been done to save him.
Oh you pronounce it wrong it was supposed to be murdered but that's ok I couldn't understand what she said either even know I watch this a million times
I think one takeaway was that M’Baku and his people were still considered one with Wakanda, and not separate despite their literal estrangement. T’Challa recognized him as a leader with power and encouraged him to yield, praising his honorable fight and reminding him that he’s a leader first and foremost to his people and he shouldn’t abandon them because they need him. The way Nakia phrased their plead for his help, “an outsider, sits on our throne”, meaning that she also recognizes The Jabari tribe as one of their own and not outsiders. They knew that the Jabari were the only ones strong enough in their own right to take Killmonger on, and they were more than happy to allow their estranged brother, M’Baku, on the throne if it meant that the power stayed in a true Wakandan’s hands.
I love how noble M’baku is. He could’ve easily drank it, whopped killmongers ass, and claimed the throne, but he chose to tell them the truth and stay loyal to wakanda.
Don't rub her nose in it. On a serious note, that was really sad. The one time Shuri puts her faith in a higher power, she is let down. Luckily, Bast blesses her with the mantle of the Panther, restoring her faith to a certain extent.
Don't think mbaku wants the throne. But he definitely doesn't want a weaker man to rule over him. So he had to ensure that TChalla is worthy to sit on it
The writers missed an important beat where the women decide to use the herb for T'Challa after promising to give it to M'Baku. The scene should've been written such that they hand over the herb to M'Baku in the throne room, and then he gives it back to them to heal T'Challa. Would've shown it was his choice and would've truly sealed the "bad-to-good" arc of his character.
Nah, I think it's more telling of his character that he didn't even reach for it. Taking the flower first would have shown that he was tempted. The fact that he didn't even hesitate to lead them back to T'Challa showed that he knew that he wasn't the one meant for it at that time, and not even the thought of absolute power over Wakanda would sway him from that opinion. The fact that he took them to T'Challa, then turned away as they healed him out of respect, showed everything that needed to be said about his character.
@@geop.795 The way they showed it implied that they didn't even consider what M'Baku wanted. I agree that M'Baku is a kind character, but they could've shown that better, even if before using the herb on T'Challa, the women looked to M'Baku and he nodded in approval. Even something as simple as that would've worked better
@@romilrh There's a lot left unspoken through body language and interaction. He led them to T'Challa when he was offered power. That WAS his way of turning it down. They clearly understood him BY using the flower to save T'Challa. And in the end, it was rightfully T'Challa's anyway.
I think that's exactly what happened. M'Baku knew what the Queen Mother would use the herb for the moment he revealed to her and the other women that not only was T'Challa there....he was still alive. They DID offer him the herb. He COULD have taken it and defeated Killmonger and claimed T'Challa's throne for himself. He could have stopped them when he saw what they were doing in the healing room. He didn't do that. He was loyal to his true King and thus, he didn't stop them when they used the herb to heal T'Challa.
M'baku's actions are always for the good of his people. He challenged the black panther to protect his people's tradition. He threw away his pride because his people needed him. He agreed to fight N'jadaka only because his people would become the 1st target of Killmonger in his world domination plan. He didn't care about the throne, he only cared about his people and his monke.
M’Baku is a great character here. His tribe lives on the far borders, and has been around as long as the other tribes, but Wakanda has never recognised their independence. He has cared for his people and arguably done a better job of ruling since his people are likely much more equal and happier then the other tribes, especially since likely his people choose their leader, not by combat. He had no reason to keep T’Challa alive other than because he realised T’Challa was different then the previous rulers, and respected that.So when the queen and princess come, he’s understandably not in the mood to deal with their attitude, because this is his land, his court, not theirs. He wants them to understand they have no more power here then anyone else.Shuri is rude, and then tries to take him from them, without even asking if he’s able to survive that long, and he silences her like a king would, because unlike Shuri is used to, here they treat rulers with respect. He’s not her brother, he will be talked to respectfully. And he lets them go, but respectfully declines, because his people matter first. He’s not the king of Wakanda, but he’s the ruler his people need.

On a serious note, that was really sad. The one time Shuri puts her faith in a higher power, she is let down. Luckily, Bast blesses her with the mantle of the Panther, restoring her faith to a certain extent.
He must have felt very honored... I like him, he is an honorable man I look up to honorable people...
RIP King, if only we could've brought him back the way they did in the movie.🖤🥺🙏🏿
Chadwick was really special. His life imitated his art, & it's beautiful. He feels & looks like an Angel.
To this day I still don't know if M'baku really is a vegetarian or not
Wakanda Forever shows that he is
For a tribe that rejected vibranium, their buildings are pretty modernised.
can you imagine mbaku in the avengers.. chanting all the time.. 😂
Don't think mbaku wants the throne. But he definitely doesn't want a weaker man to rule over him. So he had to ensure that TChalla is worthy to sit on it
This movie was so epic on every level!! Definitely one of my favorites out of all of the MCU movies❤️❤️
you can tell m'baku is mulling over taking the herb for a moment, but ultimately decides to bring them to t'challa
Rest In Peace, Chadwick Boseman. This scene completely takes on a new meaning now. I wish it played out like the movie. ❤️
1:18 “SiLENce!!” 😂
Funny how he said it like a parent
M’baku is a man of code and honor 👏🏽
The nakia actress nailed the accent perfectly.
Grrreat Gorilla MBakhu
Lupita's amazing
4:00
Them: *softly speaking and chanting*
Me quietly: _"do you wanna build a snowman~"_
My favorite part of this scene is where they first show M'Baku on his throne. The light effect is perfect for him.
He’s gone forever now
2016 father dies
2020 son dies
2022 mother dies
0:23 dude literally steps out of thin air from a cliff come on people
wakanda mountaineers prolly has the ability to go invisible
Lmao
He was loyal to his true King and thus, he didn't stop them when they used the herb to heal T'Challa.
by bringing them to him was his way to tell them 'give it to him, not me'
I wish this could be real.
I absolutely love M'Baku! He, Shuri and Okoye are my favourites of the movie!
The set design is so beautiful
No wonder it won the Oscar for Art Direction
Winston Duke (M’Baku) went to my highschool that’s so cool
M’Baku is now the king of wakanda
You will forever be know as a fighter and a avenger. R.I.P. wakanda forever
"I'm kidding, we are vegetarians"
Lmfao
Lupita gave the best performance in this film..Her African really came out👍🏿
M'Baku showed his honor in this scene. Rightful new King of Wakanda.
that little gigglesnort did it for me. I can see that big man cracking Dad jokes all day.
It's so Weird and Sad at the same time to watch this:(
Rest in Peace, Chadwick Boseman...
Coming back to remember this legend
Only if we can do this right now ❤️ you will always be remembered ✊🏽
I like the way he says “silence. I make the pronouncements here girl.”
I love M'Baku he steals every scene he's in.
“First Baba... and now my brother.”
“Mama we didnt even get to bury him!”
😞😔😥
M'Baku is actually smart. He went to Yale btw. Real talk though.
Yes Winston is smart.
1:29 Me and my homies when a girl says the song we playin’ is from TikTok
Need this right now. Wake up Chawick. R.I.P TO A KING! A HERO!
M’baku became my favorite when he scolded the girl for mocking traditions
“YOU CANNOT TALK” 😂😂😂
R.I.P King !! Thank you for being the Super Hero We Needed .
Wakanda Forever ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼
This was a phenomenal film, let alone a superhero movie, it was just a brilliant, brilliant film. Can't wait for the next Black Panther
Man-Ape: We are vegetarians
Also Man-Ape: *Has fishermen*
Vegetarians don’t eat beef but often eat fish or chicken. Vegans are the ones that don’t eat any animals.
@@user-gg4vh9jx8j by the definition "vegetarians" eat no meat and no fish, but drink the milk and eat the eggs of other animals. If you eat fish you are not vegetarian but as pescetarian. If you eat chicken you're neither.
He stated "We are vegetarians", referring to the family, not the tribe.
@@JohnWilson-zh3il Thank you! He was clearly referring to his family by mentioning he'd feed this man to his children.
Don't take the "vegetarian" part seriously. He's probably just messing with Ross.
Little bro: hey can I play DOOm with yo-
Me: 1:29
I seen this movie 100 times and I still love can’t wait for part two
Rest in Power my King 🙅🏽♀️ #WakandaForever #RIP
"An outsider sits on our throne"
You mean the cast out son of the king, rightful heir who defeated your man in the traditional way and earned his right to sit on the throne?
Please god make a miracle out of Chadwick. 😭
“Why do you have him in the snow?!?” She was so concerned in the cutest way! 😂
Lupita is soooo gorgeous! damn i love her
I have only seen her in this and Star Wars sequel trilogy
I like how sassy mbaku is😂😂😂
Baku and Nakia reunite as Gabe and Adelaide aka the TETHERED
Love how M'Baku pretend to be menacing in the beginning, while the four benches in the throne room implies that people probably have fun and drinks with him here, unlike the throne room in main Wakanda, which looks like a serious meeting room. M'Baku is most probably a very chill ruler.
This scene is powerful on showing calling on our Black Ancestors for help. Chadwick is still with us.
