Putting your laser inside a cabinet has got to be one of the smartest ideas I've seen yet!. Great video! Thanks for sharing.

Great instructions. You really should consider doing more videos. It's all about the details.

    Great video.
Please be aware that if your engraving didn't turn out as you wanted on slate you can sand it down and use it again like new.
I normally sand down to 180 grit then refinish. Ready to use again.

What grit do you start with?

    • @MilmoWood

@@mikeblades5970 depending hiw heavy the engraving. But I started about 80 and went down to 120 ish done on an orbital sander.
Then I apply a coat of spray on lacquer. Ready to start again.

@@MilmoWood Thank you. I know that they are fairly inexpensive, but I hate the thought of throwing test tiles away. It's good to know that they can be sanded and reused!

@@mikeblades5970 absolutely. I've made so many mistakes on coasters I'd be bankrupt if I threw them away lol.

Good Morning from NM. New to laser engraving and using an LM2 SF. I didn't catch what software you are using. Is it Lightburn? I have it downloaded, but have been using LaserGRBL.

Thanks for the very informative upload. When I delete the background and follow this procedure the background ends up black. Is this normal? I haven't burnt the slate yet but a pre run looks like its going to try to print the black background.

Hello, I have the same laser and I am utilizing the same applications as you are, however, I am new to engraving and under ImagR while following your steps, I can't locate Diode Laser. My options are as follows Old, Norton, CO2, CO2/2, Baning, Marcin, Sketch, Nero, Kasia, and Skeldon. Also, I am trying to engrave wood. I have tried most of the options, but I don't get a good result. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I am also trying to find the imageR, you talk about in the video, nice installation by the way :)

Also, if you don't have a direct connect like I do from light burn to your laser you can make a simple outline of the object you are engraving. In this case you make a square (line) that's the size of the coaster so a 4x4" square, then set the speed to I usually do 600mm/min and do the lowest power possible for your laser. I use a .4 power that way the dot from the laser is clearly visible while also not enough to damage my object. I do 3 to 4 passes so it will give you plenty of time to align the object while it's going around the square. Make sure to set it up as the first most layer on the printing queue so you can align the object before it starts engraving.

Good morning!! I have a Ortur Laser Master 2 20 watt and I am using Lightburn as well. I was curious how you get the photo to be exactly in the middle of the slate coaster?? When I burn a clock on a log it's a lot of trial and error with the "fire" button to get it close to even. I was curious if there was an easier way?? Thank you

What is the wattage (input & ootical output) of your diode? What do normally run your speed and power when doing the slate tiles?
