So lemme get this straight 1. Learn every possible inversion of a Maj7add9 chord so well you can use any at will 2. Practice modern progression(s) such as (I - IV - bVI) in this quality keeping the top note the same 3. Practice reharming melodies subbing the different chords in the progression in whilst having the same top note in from the melody
You guys are correct, they are just major 9 chords. But what makes this idea work is the constant structure of having one major played over another. Is this instance it makes sense to think of it as playing the major triad in the right hand a fifth above the one played in they left hand.
Okay I understand this Drill, I am not gonna rest till I have mastered this and make my listeners wander..."What the hack was this guy doing" Than i will smile and think of this lesson. Corey Henry I did already play that way that I wanted to know more about his vocings
Hi Jimin thanks for this videos! Clicked subscribed right away! l also work in a cruiseship as a party band keyboardist and your tutorials really helps me a lot as I am leaning towards jazz music. All the best 😀
I've loved music since I could crawl, played some trumpet and really started liking jazz in my teen years. Now I have been jazz-obsessed for about 10 years, and Jimin I don't even play piano but I find this fascinating and beautiful as all of your videos are. All of your performances I've seen are soulful and attention-grabbing. I only wish my piano playing mum would still be around to hear this. Thank you.
Hi from Canada, Jimin. Great tutorial! I'd love to see you expand on this concept of stacked triads some more. I believe its also something that Bill Evans would do all the time, using various combinations of triad pairs.
Of course you are right. But also it’s a different awareness when you focus on getting both triads to sound. And it’s only a first step towards other polychords.
Very Beautiful Ms. Jimin!! Oh how I wish that U would use a on screen display (for the old man) so I can view your unique talent and how U do that thing U do even the more with a midi file!! Peace!!

thats Yes in korean 😀
Isn't a Maj7add9 just a Maj9 chord?
@@jman12849 yup lol
Thanks! I am very happy that there are people like you that help pianists like us reach their next level! I'll practice hard! :)

Russell Ferrante from the Yellowjackets was really the first guy to popularize these voicings as far as I know.

This video is really cool! I wish you demonstrated what you're playing in the beginning though instead of the jazz standards. Great job!
its amazing so many non Korean are learning jazz from this Korean speaking channel. Thank you JiminDorothy
