In my opinion the 80s was the best time to enjoy halloween.i had those costumes as well.. staying out late to get alot of candy then coming home to watch horror movies all night.. Halloween Michael Myers.. Freddy Krueger Jason Voorhees...to name a few..I wished we could go back to that.. Halloween sucks now in 2022.. kids today have no clue about Halloween..and how much fun it was in the 80,s or early 90,s..if you remember listening to a night in the haunted mansion Halloween sound effect tape in the dark respond back

I grew up in the 80's and enjoyed Trick ,or Treating. I remember wearing two costumes. One underneath the first one.
The reason why. I'd get a pillow case full of candy. I'd start on my side of town dressed as one thing, and by the time I reached the other end of town ,I'd quickly change to my other costume underneath. Placing my first costume directly in the bottom underneath all my Halloween loot.
I would then proceed down the street heading back the way I came towards my house.
By the time I had reached home ,my pillowcase was totally full of Halloween treats. I remember going in my room and dumping the whole thing in the middle of my bed. Boy back then we would get the large size candy bars. Sometimes we'd get a gift bag full of goodies . Every once in a while ,I remember getting money. Really wasn't much back then maybe 5 dollars,or ten. Very seldom did we get anything over 20.
But boy those were the days.

Today, my Halloweens consist of handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters from 4-7 PM and then watching It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on DVD.

Lisa, a worker for those with autism had told me what Halloween was like in the early 80's. She showed me photos of her and her brothers with the weird cheap masks on Halloween. I think the costumes from the 2000's had better quality since the 80's ones were cheaply made and also creepy. (which could have been intentional but quality of costume products did get better overtime)

In 1980 I was twelve; my brother, 9. We early GenXers would walk the nieghborhood halloween night sans parental supervision, donning flammable costumes and masks made of pleastic and lead, going house to house , yes, even after dark, collectiong the good candy and the bad, the bad being loose pieces of candy corn that might have held poion or pieces of razor blades. Meanwhile, our parents, exhausted from a hard day's work or from early beating the shit of us from some perceived infraction, would be in the living room, watching TV, oblivious to our existence until 10:00 p.m. It was that that some celebrity of the era would appear on the TV and say, "It's 10:00 P.M. Do you know where your children are?" Yes, our parents needed reminders that they had children. These were good days. By 1983-1984, Haloween took on new meaning. Sure, I still loved candy, but that was not the reason for braving the cool night air. By then, we the inventive, we the creative, well, our minds wandered toward the sinister.

That’s interesting. They could have gotten it from Freddy or Edward scissor hands.

I remember being so exited then so disappointed when my mom finally bought me a spider man costume with the plastic mask.
    Immediately broke

Sad, yeah they were not great quality. I also remember the elastic on the mask always breaking.
